Lovely video. 45 years ago I traveled from eastern England to spend a childhood school adventure holiday on Sherkin at the campsite that you walked through. I’m amazed and happy to see that the blue and white converted cowsheds are still there (they are much more modern looking now). Our school group crossed from Baltimore in a big wooden rowing type boat with all our suitcases on board. It worried me sick as I couldn’t really swim far, plus I almost drowned prior to the trip as we had to learn how to roll the canoes and I got stuck upside down in the canoe 😅. I chose not to canoe whilst on my Sherkin adventure or go on the boats with Mr Murphy. I was lucky enough to ride a pony across the island instead. I have always wanted to return to the island. Thank you so much for your video 😊🙏
Thanks for this, Jim. I grew up on the east coast of Scotland, and my parents would take us all (7 children) over to West Cork most summers. We went to Sherkin at least once each visit, and spent long days on the sandy beach. If we were very lucky, we'd get a lift back to the harbour on a tractor! You've brought back some lovely memories, as well as sharing the history of Sherkin. God bless you.
