Taro Kono, Minister of Digital Affairs, is running for the LDP presidential election. He has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense, and has a wealth of experience. However, he has been treated as a heretic and eccentric within the LDP, as he has been advocating the abolition of nuclear power since before March 11, 2011 (Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident). Since first joining the Cabinet in 2011, he has been putting his policies into practice, but there are also criticisms that he has betrayed his principles. As seen in the My Number Card, digitalization has not produced the results expected. His popularity in opinion polls also lags behind Shigeru Ishiba and Shinjiro Koizumi.
