      It's so lovely to hear from viewers like yourself Susan and appreciate how we are bringing them that little something that makes them smile! RUclips is such a wonderful thing isn't it, taking us places we have never been, or showing us things we have never tried. I am determined to get back into my crafting things this year, and teach myself how to crochet (again, because I've forgotten!). I used to have a little cake ball making business when we lived in a house, but that doesn't work on the boat as I don't have the fridge space. Pete's just bought himself some art supplies to try something new. Stay tuned for those results! 😊

      Hi Dorothy! It's been so lovely editing these videos and reliving all the lovely memories with the boys. It was such a fun few months. We were only talking the other day about how frustrating it is to have the internet down, as you rely on it for so many things these days! Isn't it wonderful when the clocks go forward and the evenings start to get lighter. We can't wait, but it doesn't happen until Easter weekend for us. It's the couple of weeks in the year that there's only a 5 hour time difference between us and our daughter in Wisconsin, and it's surprising the difference it makes! Pete managed the one-man filming very well, some more top-class videography. But that English menu at the end! Minced beef and onion pie, I'd think seriously about having one flown over, since it's the only way I'm going to get one. Country House Gent cooks on his narrowboat (Aslan) and I have to switch off because it's all too much.

    • @onedaymoreaboard
      @onedaymoreaboard 4 месяца назад

      He did quite a good job didn't he, steering with his bum and timing at the same time! Some of his filming when we started this whole vlogging thing was rather dubious and didn't make it onto the videos for fear of making people feel sick with the zooming around everywhere! Now with a little bit of coaching, to keep it steady and always film in landscape, I get some better footage from inside the locks especially! Kevin on Aslan was one of the channels that we obsessively watched when we were planning this new life aboard, but have; t had the pleasure to bump into him on the network yet. When we were living in Houston there was a British shop that sold frozen pies that were quite good, but Pete makes an impressive steak and ale pie himself, so we would often introduce our American friends to the British savoury pie tradition! 😋

    Omg! that farm shop looked amazing. Great vlog guys 👍 beautiful scenery and some really lovely houses and gardens right on the canal. You do make it look so relaxing and tranquil. I’ve only done a few hires and they’ve only been weekend breaks because of the cost. I would so love to do the four counties ring. Do you think 2 weeks would give enough time to take it easy and have plenty of chill time to enjoy your moorings and a look around the area? I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent on the boats but don’t get time to relax and enjoy it as you’re meant to

    • @onedaymoreaboard

      Glad to hear you enjoyed it Paul! We love that we get to nosey into back gardens when we are on the canal, and as you've seen, some are absolutely beautiful! From what I've read, the four counties ring is doable at a somewhat relaxing pace. We actually took months to complete it, as we took a diversion to the Llangollen and the Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals on the way! We never hired before we decided to buy our boat and live aboard, so have never had that time constraint, but now I think lots more about the hire boaters that are doing rings that they must complete within their time always thing it must be more relaxing to do an out and back trip, like oil the Llangollen or South Oxford for example, then there's not so much pressure to complete it!

    • @onedaymoreaboard
      @onedaymoreaboard 4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks so much Sheryl, glad you enjoyed it! Normally the locks in the area would prevent large areas from losing water, but if there was a breach right near a marina then there are measures in place like stop planks, which are placed in the entrance to form a barrier. It is usual for water levels to change in marinas as the canal level changes, and moorers will adjust their ropes to allow for this. 😊

    I am beyond amazed that you guys can keep doing all this locks business - and then trying to keep a car in sync with where you need to have it as well - you must be shuffling from one place to another all the time trying to keep it all together ! I would have got fed up with the whole thing in a few weeks ! I enjoy watching your adventures but do not think this is a viable retirement prospect - too much work involved ! Unless of course you just park the boat somewhere nice & stay there, when you can potentially enjoy beautiful scenery, enjoy a nice village nearby, take lovely walks & have lots of time to read & write interesting things !

    • @onedaymoreaboard
      @onedaymoreaboard 4 месяца назад

      Hi Veronica, I have to admit that sometimes they are far harder than others! Give me a sunny, blue skies day and the thought of lots of locks doesn't faze me at all! Can't say the same when it's miserable damp weather and we have a deadline to be somewhere! It's definitely easier travelling in pairs and having an extra pair of hands to help though. I think the vlogs tend to condense our travelling and don't show so much of the more relaxing days enjoying the peace and quiet and the views. I sometimes include some of our walks around the pretty little villages we stop near, but plan to do a little more exploring this year, and not so much rushing around trying to be everywhere 😊
