Ditto! The Mrs. can't wait for her R2 after getting chauffeured around in my R1T. And I think if the R3X was coming sooner, she'd opt for that instead.
I think it’s obvious on what’s happening with the economy and high interest rates. Slow and steady growth is better than Tesla. People keep forgetting that it took Tesla almost a decade to get to profitability since their first IPO. Rivian looks like it will take them less than half the time so I really don’t understand these people. Their products sell for themselves and the R2 and R3 will get them to profitability.
Id like to see how many Gen1 owners upgrade to Gen2 because this is what helped Tesla, when the upgraded product came out the original buyers sold and bought the new one. Seems to me this is not really happening with Rivian in the same way and maybe Rivian needs to give incentives to Gen1 owners to upgrade by offering free charging at RAN chargers outside of the owners area code so that on trips they get free charging but in their local area they do not so that the incentive doesn't get abused. Something along these lines.
On top of Rivian's mounting debt and interest expense payments, Rivian's GAAP losses per quarter show no sign of ending. The VW deal is just not going to help much and will add more debt and interest expense. With a market cap of around $15 bill; these recurring quarterly losses, don't see how Rivian avoids bankruptcy: 1Q23 - $1.3 bill 2Q23 - $1.2 bill 3Q23 - $1.4 bill 4Q23 - $1.5 bill & full year '23 loss: $5.4 bill 1Q24 - $1.4 bill 2Q24 - $1.5 bill
Current cash on hand will get them through R2 and the R3 platforms and get them to free cash flow. The biggest thing that RJ and Claire have been emphasizing is just how much cost savings they have coming down the road with supplier renegotiations, etc. This is what is allowing them to have a positive gross margin on vehicles in Q4 of this year. Putting all of the gross profits for each quarter below. Take this out from your numbers and yes they're still losing money - but it slows down that bleed and gets them to R2. R2 will have capacity of 155k units and be profitable much quicker than the R1 or EDV lines were since they are utilzing the existing factory in Normal for these. You don't factor any of the forward looking projects into your assumptions. R2 is the make or break moment for Rivian. I think it will kill it on the market and they will survive just fine bringing them into R3. They also have more EDV contracts that will come in in 2025. 1Q23 - $535M 2Q23 - $412M 3Q23 - $477M 4Q 23 - $606M Full year '23 Total $2.03 bill 1Q24 - $527M 2Q24 - $451M

I like the brand and the product. However this company will go bankrupt. They’re not selling enough cars and they lose money on every car they sell. You can’t have a business model where you lose money every time a sale is made.
You can pretty much apply what you said to every single company in the world. Every company starts out losing money, but they definitely need to increase their sales much faster than what they are currently selling.
Yes def not as it's clearly not in the bottom right now. If they followed Tesla trend, they stock will be down until they have their own model 3 equivalent production sort it out, which is probably 5 years minimal
American industry capacity sucks. Chinese companies launch a new model every 6 month. It has been over 10 years since Rivian talked about their lower priced cars. They still can’t get it done.
theyre not exploding, their only real problem is the starting price of 70k and stories of first generation costing 40k (the whole body) for a fender bender.
