Nyneave and Rand is one of my favorite relationships in the series. I love how much trust he has in her by asking for her help in the two biggest moments of the third age and even serving as his advisor during his darkest/ lowest moments.
SERIOUSLY! IDK why no one mentions Rand/Nynaeve's relationship. It's so loving and wholesome! And immensely critical to the story.
I am a rand - elayne apologist/shipper. But the rand nynaeve relationship is definitely the best written in the series.

The first time I read WoT, I was pregnant and wrangling a toddler so Nyneave's anger spoke to me on a very personal level😂. She's my spirit animal. When people (mostly my kids) do something risky it scares me and that manifests as anger, so I've always really understood her and I love her, flaws and all.

Nynaeve is in my top 5 fantasy characters of all time. Her growth and development is what writing should be.
The only knock I can possibly think of with her, is her lack of ambition. Which is brilliant writing by Robert Jordan.
She didn't want to be the best healer (even though she was) she just wanted to heal.
She didn't want to be the most powerful (even though she was) she just wanted to do what's right. And even now that I'm writing this out, I'm falling in love with her more and more.
My personal favorite Nynaeve moment is when she helps the Maidens of the Spear that are fighting the Fades. The way she instinctively and viciously erases them from existence is just BADASS.
I absolutely love her scene when she's officially raised! What she said about choosing people and Lan over the tower spoke to me! Plus her scene that you read from. Those two are some of the most powerful moments I've ever read!
Nynaeve is my favorite female character. I didn’t like her at the beginning of the books but she grows on me. She has one of the best arcs in all the books. Excited to see how the actress does showing her personality.
Ah, my favorite character in the series. To be fair, I really didn't like her on my first couple of reads, but in later reads she really becomes somebody I truly love to read. The changes she goes through while maintaining the core of who she is just really makes her somebody I admire. She's written so well and is just an all around excellent character.

Joe Pauley oh so feel the same I think the turning point for me was reading something RJ said most people he meets that don’t like nyeneve are often the most like her( summarised ) and this made me relook at her character and it so true for me and this make me love her more lol !!
While she's not my favorite, or even in my top 4 or 5 in the series, I have developed a stronger appreciation for her with successive readings of the series. I also believe that she has one of the strongest character arcs in terms of personal growth (nnd not just in the One Power) within the series. A truly remarkable character with no doubts.

I'm honestly so glad to see love for Nynaeve. I adore her, I love her even more being a nurse, I know there was a lot of frustration and hate because yeah, she's uncompromising, but she's so caring, even if she didn't always express it in the most understandable or palatable way for others.
I still remember healing Logain and Suian and Leane. Especially I was in tears when Siuan hugged Nynaeve and said Thank you, Thank you... O Man... What a Crowning Moment that was !!!

Right now, I prefer Padan Fein over her. I can't stand her. (I am in book 5) Which book does she start to grow? Let me know so I can have something to look forward to. I loved the part when she got her ass beat up by a woman in the traveling menagerie 🎪. Baby, I was so happy!!!

I love Nynaeve so damn much. Her rallying the Malkier gives me chills every time.
Nynaeve and Mat are a two-way tie for my favorite Emond's Fielder/main character, which is funny because I didn't particularly like either of them for the first few books.

She's my fave too, with the caveat that I resonate the most with Aviendha, but I feel like she didn't get the best scenes through the series so I can't in good conscience pick her. :) Anyway, she's got great qualities and great flaws, and it's never boring with her.
I think she had good scenes but not enough pov scenes.
One scene that always makes me laugh is right after Nyneave breaks her block and finds out Lan is bonded to Marella. When she ask Lan "Can she tell that it is me" it always cracks me up. She was so bold and yet still embrass by her actions
I completely agree! I have mixed feelings about her relationship with Egwene. But I don’t really care for Egwenes personality all that much. I just feel at times she could have shown Nynaeve some more respect. Great video! Thank you!
I think Egwene preferred to show respect to strangers rather than the people she grew up with. Nynaeve out grew that, but Egwene never did. Maybe with time she would have.
what i mostly liked of her is the way she would never give up on Rand, even when he was going through his darkest time. The dragon reborn could not have wished for any better friend...

IMO, equally as important for Nynaeve to protect those she loves/consider her charges, is protecting the innocent or those who cannot protect themselves (even if they are a stranger)

My fav character as well. I do think one of her top awesome moments is breaking her block, I don't know why but that one really gets me in the feels every time.

She was so giddy and happy to tell Lan that she was able to channel at will without getting angry... Ah, That Moment as well !! I love their relationship immensely along with Perrin and Faile's.
I’ve never been a big fan of Rand my first read through I was more into Mat and Perrin. But on my current read through (currently in LoC) Nynaeve is growing as my favorite character (battling Mat). I find myself eagerly looking forward to her great moments as they come up in the stories. I’ve already decided to do at least one more read through but with Audio Books so I can hear the World’s End scene.
It's been well over 5 year since I've last read the series but when you went through her time-line I found myself pretty much remembering most of it :-)
I love Nynaeve!! She's tied with Perrin for my favorite character- her dedication to what is right and her unwillingness to back down (even when this manifests as stubbornness) makes her such a delight to read about.

Nynaeve is my favorite character. I love her. I loved her from the moment she was introduced, before I knew how strong in the One Power she was, before all her duels with the Forsaken, before uniting Lan's buddies. I find myself relating to her a lot.
My favorite character. In some ways oddly constructed when it comes to power. Described as possibly the 3rd most powerful for her age and the most powerful Aes Sedai of her age but inferior to many in the 2nd age and half the female Forsaken. She is powerful in all three forms of power. Yet with very little training she is able to summon balefire when most Aes Sedai are not aware it exists. She learns to cure stilling something that has never been done even in the 2nd age and of course cleanses the male power. All this in the short period of the books. She is able to stand up to a forsaken with little training in how it could be done. This suggests an attribute possessed by no other mentioned in the books.
It was pretty clear that power and skill were two seperate things when it came to the power.
Great video. I always envisioned Nynaeve as a particular friend of mind (she wore a long braid and could be stubborn). I love her character development throughout the series, particularly the power dynamics between her and Egwene and with Moiraine.
I’m really enjoying your in depth videos. I read most of the books years ago. Listening to you helps me remember much of the background. I’m really enjoying the tv series so far even though there are many changes from the book. I really like Nyneave’s character. My most memorable part was dealing with her block and only being able to channel when angry. I’m glad she has kept her braid so far. Thank you for doing this work.
I loved Nynaeve in the first few books. Her ability to make Lan, the human embodiment of stoicism, nervous was hilarious. I completely agree with you that she and Lan had the best written romantic subplot in the series, mainly because Jordan actually bothered to write a subplot, rather than just stating that two characters were totally into each other. She went after one of the Forsaken with a belt knife, because that lady does not quit. Her rescue of Egwene from the Seanchan showed both her intelligence and her leadership ability. She was also a lot less prone to manifesting skills or personality traits out of nowhere than the other characters. I thought the concept of the block was a clever way of keeping her from becoming overpowered. That being said, you could tell that Jordan really didn't know what to do with her in a lot of the later books. She went through a stretch of being afraid of her own shadow and not getting to do anything other than whine, which felt very out of character for her. She bested Mogehdien multiple times, but there wasn't a final showdown between the two. The author goes out of his way to talk about how powerful she is, but once her block is removed, we mostly only see her power manifested as her being used as a human battery. She had the occasional great moment (gathering an army for Lan, telling Myrelle to hand over Lan's bond before Nynaeve decided to use her lack of Oaths against her, etc), but there was a lot of nothing in between.
The authors really dropped the ball by not utilizing her strength on the power more after she lost her block. I would’ve loved if they had her go and heal stilling in other women that we met that lost their power. I wish they would’ve had her heal the madness from Logan and the other Asha’man that followed him. I love that she contributed so much to male channelers.

Great video. I just finished the full series and she is my favorite character. Even the moments that other people may find annoying mostly found hilarious. She constantly said things that wasn’t a joke, yet it was funny anyway and Lan laughed a lot because of it. I agree with your assessment of her. 😊
As a Nynaeve hater, my best two moments of awesomeness she does are nursing Alanna back from the brink of death in AMoL and healing Naeff's madness

Yep! That newfound respect went one way in that relationship. Egwene left her old friends in the dust. It’s not like Nynaeve saved her from slavery or anything.
@@LeahB31 what are some examples of Egwene leaving her friends in the dust (I’m only really interested in ones after Egwene became amyrlin as she was still developing before then). The only one I can think of is trying to go behind Rand’s back about breaking the seals

Matt is my favorite but Nynaeve is right up there. Also on my list of faves is Min, Aviendha, Noal aka Jain, and Verin.
I also loved the Androl/Pevara connection because of how unexpected and fresh it is.

Nynaeve was the only one in book 7 to not laugh at Mat’s rape situation with the Queen. She personally had a talk with the Queen and the Queen changed how she treated Mat at least for a little while.

I loved the video, one of my favorite characters in the series (and also in all of Fantasy literature). I remember not liking her at first, rather strongly in fact, but at some point I realised I loved her and her scenes. She's amazing!
Writing that second sentence reminded me of Ahoska Tano from the *Star* *Wars* *The* *Clone* *Wars* animated show. Most people hated her when she was introduced, now she's massively popular with those who followed that show, including myself!
@@TheGeekyHippie Nynaeve’s feistiness was mostly hilarious to me. She was one of the few characters that would get me to laugh out loud. She usually never meant to be funny, which made her banter even funnier. I think that is why Lan always laughs because of her.
I thought Birgitte was ripped from the Dream while they were hiding in the side show not when they were in Salidar

Rand being a ginger is why he had to swap bodies with moridin, otherwise his soul wouldn't be able to join the soul pool and as bonus moridin is taken out of the pool
Nyneave was the first woman I saw in fiction that I could relate to. She is everything you said and also very analytical and intuitive. We get to know her over time from her point of view so we don't have to just see her as others do who are annoyed by her. We get to see her grow up. I admire her. I wish she was real. :) The scene that stand out to me is where she attempts to heal mental illness and the way she just jumps in and feels her way around. She is my hero.
I love your character analysis videos Naebs! Nynaeve has always been my favourite character - from the moment I first picked up EotW - and that appreciation and love increases with every re-read. The moment her block breaks gives me goosebumps just thinking about it as well as when she rallies men to join Lan. I can't wait to see her and Lan bought to life on screen!
Superbly summed up, people say she would go to any length to save those she loves, i think they have that wrong, i think it should be go to any lengths to save those she feels responsible for and that includes all of the 2 Rivers People, all those who come to live in Malkier, all those who she has met along the way.
I am in book 5 (Fires of Heaven) and Nynaeve is working my last nerve!!!!!!!! Her arrogance and the way she is so condescending to everyone pisses me clean off!! I am waiting WITH BATED BREATH for her to get it together. The writing is excellent such that I am ready to ring her neck myself. Someone please help me. 😫

Nyn has one of the best character arcs in the series. She goes from super annoying to to by far my favorite female character, and that's saying something when there's Min and Moiraine to compete with.
Nyn fucking EARNED her place with Rand at Shayol Ghul. Honestly, Moist should be the second woman, aviendha felt kinda off. Avi should be leading the aiel outside Shayol Ghul, Nyn and Moist should be the two with Rand.
Probably my favorite scene in the whole series is when Jedi Master Rand tells Nyn to embrace her emotions because they mean she cares. God I loved that

Nynaeve's other notable possession is Lan's ring. She has since she and Lan leave each other in Fal Dara in TGH. This is almost the entire series
Nynaeve was always a strange character for me to have an opinion on I really liked her in the first bit of the story because she was the only one who didnt just do whatever Moiraine said and actually thought for herself. For a very long time after that though she just had the air of im always right about everything and even when im wrong you cant acknowedge it that really irked me. The thing that really makes me dislike her in the later books is how she is always able to do things literally said to be impossible. Stilling is no longer a real threat and the dark ones madness she cured in literally less that half an hour on a whim. Aside from that she's a good character but her personality is just abrasive even more so than most aes sidai.

not all Paralis Nets were made in the AOL, the nets that have ter'angreal like mat's medallion were made after, one of the forsaken mentions that they didn't have that type of ter'angreal in the age of legends, and speculates it was made shortly after the breaking.

I'm just watching season 2, on episode 2 or 3, barely remember season 1, know nothing else about any of this if it's based on books or w/e I haven't read them lol. Anyway as of right now I'm getting Daenerys vibes from this girl. She seems kind of like she's gonna be the hero, but also there are hints at her becoming the villain. I feel like Rand is the hero and she's the villain, or vice versa maybe. I'm prolly wrong but this is just the vibes I'm getting atm

Matt is by far my favorite character. I hated Nynaeve until the later books when she started to 'grow' or, as I saw it, learn from her mistakes. Nynaeve is the character that gets power too young and eventually learns how to best use it. Unfortunately, she learns this by causing harm to others.

Technically, Min is also captured. As she cannot channel, Min is not collared. After swearing the Seanchan Oath, she is relatively free to move around Falme.

From what I have seen of the videos of the series it will be yet another disappointing tv adaptation because apparently those who adapt books to movies and or television cannot actually read. you have made yet another great video about one of our favorite characters in the books series.

When the group was in Baerlon at that inn. Chapter 15 or 16.
I wonder if more of the WoT fandom is more like you Nae'blis (Nynaeve is their favorite or at least one of the characters they like best) or is like me (Nynaeve is the character I hate the most or at least of the characters they like the least). That is not to say I do not think she is well written. I think she is. It is just I see her as the biggest hypocrite in the entire series. In all of her interactions. She is the epitome of there are two rules. Rules for her and rules for everyone else. IRL I would not want anything to do with her.
I kind of stood with you through the early books. Nynaeve was just infuriating with her ego, pride, and hypocrisy. However, something changed during her time and interactions with the Kin and then again when she realized just what all the pressure of the world (and possibly the first hints of madness) was affecting Rand. She turns into one of the more likeable characters in the final half of the series, IMO.

@Andrew Berenson I like this "two rules" way of explaining it, it's inarguably true throughout the books. You'll see people call her "uncompromising" but as far as I can tell that's just their fawning way of saying, "She's the epitome of two rules, but I like it."

You didn't exactly miss it (I think you mentioned it briefly under abilities), but to me , healing Naeffs insanity was another pretty important moment in the story, overall and to Nynaeve as well as, hopefully, the Ashaman - my first question after that scene was why in the world she wasn't immediatly telling and showing others how to do this. If she died during the Last Battle, that knowledge would have been lost, and it should be a relativly brief but very important part of the story after the books ended. Might even give Nynaeve some connection to and a measure of trust from the Black Tower.
In any case, the scene reaffirmed how much Nynaeve cares about others, her passion for healing and stubbornnes to achieve those goals. It also gave us a visualization of what the taint was doing to the Ashaman, and a different insight into what was going on in Rands mind. (Plus I think scenes like that are simply examples of really good writing).
I'd guess that scene was probably one of those that Robert Jordan knew about quite a while beforehand , whether or not he had already decided under what circumstances etc would be a nice question for Brandon Sandersson. (If it hasn't already been asked - anybody who knows, please tell me! :) )

her skill with delving and her willingness to work to heal men who could channel. Other servants of all could have learned the technique, yet it probably would require a circle to be effective. My head cannon includes this happening after the last battle and the Black Tower aiding in rebuilding the Seven Towers in gratitude.
Where she ranks in the story? Why, at the top obviously! 😄 As probably many others I didn't see it at first, but around book 7 and the removal of her block I really started to appreciate her and it has only grown since. Also, the actor cast is perfect at least for looks. Not exactly as I saw her before but now there can be only one. 😉
Could not agree more with the last post when it comes to an amazing character arc. Nyn had my blood boiling early on in the series with the constant nagging and berating of male characters. Extremely eager to see if they can depict such a great character as her onto the screen, along with the respect deserved.

Love the character of Nynaeve as well... For future vids, please clear your nose prior to filming... It was distracting... Or tilt your head down a little more... Just trying to help you present a better face for your videos...
