We used to have a player in my club with the nickname 'Flash' and I will never forget how he got that tag. We were playing a midweek game and were in the field - I was at cover, he was at point. The batsman lashed one past him; he tried to turn quickly to chase it but as he did so, he stood on the bottom of one trouser leg with his boot and this made his trousers start to come down. Undeterred or perhaps not realising the gravity of the situation, he still tried to run and there could of course only be one result - not only did the trousers end up round his ankles, but he went over as well. I was on the floor holding my stomach laughing, it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in the field.

Totally plum that one in the highlights. Enjoyed the late rally in the Walton batting to take it to 138. Bit sad when you can see a game is spoilt by some questionable decisions, that may even embarrass the batsmen themselves, but then as long as the other team stays true to the spirit of cricket in response, that's well played. PS. Anil seems to look great opening the batting, predicting a big score from him soon

The point is its a vague justification for scandalous umpiring. I bet they umpire like that every week and make up some story of being wronged. The only way to combat it is to bring an umpire. In my old league if a team brought an umpire and the others didn't have one, he had to do both ends. We turned up with an ump for a promotion decider against a team notorious for not giving lbws. Our guy was fair to both teams but he did shoot out 6 of the oppo LBW lol, they couldn't help themselves by walking in front of the stumps - habit I guess

I passed both parts & subsequently spent more time umpiring than actually playing. But every time I played & a player(s) believed a dodgy Umpiring decision was made they asked me to adjudicate.. End of the day both teams are as bad as each other for the decisions made. That was clear as day a catch and not a bump ball, poor from the batter not to walk and some nerve from the lad standing as umpire to not give it out on appeal from the fielders. 2nd innings.... thats what happens normally but cause of the crap in the 1st innings ur gonna get absolutely nothing in the 2nd innings, just amazed some of the bowled and caught wickets didn't suddenly have no ball called by the lads staying as umpires in 2nd innings, have seen it time and time before in club cricket like that back in the day, so much that numerous teams would have players not being available for those games.

Got to agree - it was clearly not a bump ball. Obviously wrong to then not give anything in the 2nd innings, but can't be surprised at not getting LBWs, when you don't give a catch. Not sure either team has done much good to their reputations.

    • @slamdunc5893

It wasn’t nerve I was unsure and thought it was a bump ball, the video didn’t show the discussion with the square leg umpire who said it was a bump ball. I had a conversation with the bowler at the end of the over and he was also unsure. After viewing the video and seeing it I was wrong and I’ll happily hold my hands up and say I made a mistake. It would of been helpful had the batter walked. We are all wiser after the event but at the time and in real time I genuinely thought it was a bump ball.

Wow the oppo are absolutely pathetic. The bump ball is obviously out looking back at it but it’s easy on a replay but it’s so hard when you’re umpiring. And they didn’t appeal so as an umpire you can’t give it out with no appeal. Sadly goes on at every grassroots club with neutral umps. Also might suggest to Anil to stop running towards the umpire and appealing several times, gets a bit tedious, won’t help him get decisions and boringly is actually against the rules as excessive appealing

Making mistakes is one thing and forgivable, but some of the decisions going against you were horrendous. Reminds me of a match my u.14As played against another school where the umpire (coaches were expected to umpire their own teams' games) gave a run out decision against one of my batsmen about half a minute after the last ball of the over was bowled and the batsmen were moving to the middle to discuss the situation. He stood watching the fielder with the ball and when the batsmen left their creases, nodded to him, and watched him walk to the stumps and break them. When I told him the ball was dead, he said he had deliberately not called the over, because he saw that the batsman was leaving his crease! I was gobsmacked, the t##d even admitted it!

If you compared the celebration from both teams, you would actually see that Home team’s celebration is more loud compared to the the opposition. You will see the Away keeper slow walking after every wicket, players not jumping etc. so that’s not arrogance! in fact the home team’s celebration is in line too. Funny how only one team is being criticised here. Have you seen the 2 back to back LBW at 1.07 minutes? Is it because the decision is for your own team, it’s being claimed as genuine decision i.e. going on the leg or bouncing off. In addition, the so called bump ball is too high to be called a bump ball according to the physics - how was that not given out?
Don’t think it’s fair to criticise only 1 team here.

It wasn't given out because no-one appealled. Thems the rules...

The video shows the keeper and the player on the slip appealing/questioning it and then the whole team gathered can be seen. And you’re saying no one appealed. Lets forget the appeal for a second, the batsman should have walked if they played in the spirit of cricket. Obviously not.
All i am saying is that it is not fair to criticise 1 team and not the other. Both supported their teams through umpiring!

No. One was a genuine mistake (the bowler didn’t even appeal) and then the other side resorted to cheating like spoiled kids.

Lol that's so true. There were a few lbw's that the Home team never gave but apparently it seems from this video that they are claiming their Lbw decisions fair. Looking at the full video, it doesn't look like they gave any of their players LBW out. In addition, they called a catch - a bump ball?? How do you justify that level of extreme cheating? Calling it a genuine mistake doesn't help the opposition - does it ?
And then looks like the opposition did exactly the same by not giving LBW's.

@@romeopimp7414 The bump ball can't be out if no-one appealled. Fucking hell, try and learn the rules.
We have to put up with this garbage from time to time. I advocate (and have asked in front of the umpire before now) that the offending umpires/team should be asked to leave.
If every club did that, they would stop doing it. It is not within the spirit of the game and hardly happened up until a few years ago.
