THIS ABSOLUTELY WORKS!!! 👍👍👍 This problem has troubled me for years and I got it fixed in just an hour. Not hard at all super easy. Thank you for this video. Happy Happy.
I get a lot of knowledge from RUclips videos but this one has made me the absolute happiest. I was ready to trade my Foreman 450es in but this definitely changed my mind. That’s TOTALLY AWESOME. Thanks again this was well appreciated.
Great that a little cleaning & grease fixed this baby. Other posters had good points, make sure battery is good, although once ATV is running assuming the battery is good enough to start engine WITHOUT being boosted and alternator is putting out properly should not be the problem while the engine is running. I'd say once you went into it this far you might as well throw on a brand new Angle Sensor. Those do wear out, can get flaky and intermittent, be ok cold, act up hot, cause the computer to think the machine is in some other gear than what it is actually in. The computer doesn't know any better which gear machine is in when the Angle Sensor is in fact sending erroneous information to the computer. They're under 20 bucks on Ebay. You can visually inspect the gears while you are in there, and somewhat test the motor by supplying 12 volts, although you still would not know if the motor is intermittent electrically or possibly binding in the bearings under load on occasion. Mostly be my guess that if you can hear the shifter motor trying to work whenever you push the up / down shift buttons, why that somewhat rules out problems with either the motor or buttons. Now with that said, someone on here will probably comment, oh but my motor sounded as if was working. Tested alright on the bench, just wasn't strong enough to shift the transmission in actual use. Bottom line: new angle sensor, and cleaning gears with new grease put in around those and the bearings probably going to fix a lot of Honda ESP problems out there.
Yes sir thank for the information and comments that sensor is cheap so good point ! Honda sold 8 out of 10 models electric shift these years vs just a foot shifter model other style so many are at that age ! If I can help just few that can’t afford a Honda shop I’ve done my deed ! Thanks again for the input great information!
Just got an 05 just like the one in your video here . It's doing the same thing about to go try to fix it! Thanks for the video. It was very helpful even if this isn't the problem with mine.
Sometimes u gatta find what it ain’t to find what it is , lol gatta love the kids too ! Thanks for the comment if your issues mabey comment on here someone may need the information! Have great day hope u find it quickly
Nice video. I'm working a 2007 Honda Foreman ES 4x4. Right now I've had to replace lots of parts just to get this far. I'm getting a code 13 on my meter. I have ordered a TPS tool in hopes of getting the N to stop flashing. I will look into that area just incase on the shifter.
I recently changed my stator and the gear shift position sensor and after it’s back together it will sound like it wants to change gears but will only go from 5th to reverse if I use the manual shift lever tool other then that I can’t make it go and it worked before. I cleaned out the shift motor and it spins good when powered and I hit the buttons but once I put it back on I only get the click .
Check your battery a weak battery on these will reek havoc on the electric shift also ! I don’t remember there being a special alignment like if you took it out in first n put it back in 4th I’d have to watch video but maybe there is a position sensor on it I can’t remember
@@WaldensWorld yeah I got the repair manual pdf and it shows it going in a certain way and I think I got it in rotated 180 Deg because it should go from reverse up to neutral and it goes from reverse up to 5th gear which would be backwards
Thanks for the help and response man and I will post here again after I switch it around and let ya know how it works afterwards 🤞 “ none of us is greater than all of us “
I hope you see this but my foreman is having a problem where it goes into gears all 5 but when I try to go to neutral it stops at 2nd and won’t go down I have to manually put it in neutral with a ratchet but even then it takes a bit and the number 2 just flashes for a bit
One thing is your battery in good shape ? The electric shifters like a good battery on older units! N did you check the front shift actuator motor in the video? The grease turns to thick muck light weight lithium grease worked on few I’ve done already
@@WaldensWorld I just did what you did in the video and I didn’t have a battery in it because I havnt had the time to get a new one but I did install a brand new battery in there and after I cleaned it all and applied new grease it worked like a charm thank you for replying I was really hoping I didn’t have to get new hard parts for it
Try a new Shift Angle Sensor. Under 20 bucks on Ebay. Even if does not solve your problem, those are a wear item, easy and inexpensive thing to try first. While that far into it, also clean & grease the little gears as shown in the video.
@@WaldensWorld ok I was gonna try to do it later I know that break cleaner they say is good to use I’ve herd but it might be to harsh I don’t know I guess I gotta take off the skid pan to get to that shift motor hers is a 2005 I believe shoot if you lived right up the road local I’d say shit come over I’ll buy the beer
Having issues with my 98 foreman ES, sometimes it shift fine, some times it doesnt do anything, no clicking, nadda. Cant find a common cause, its randome, might work fine for a whole day, then just stop. Dont really know where to start.
Check servo motor infront of motor put light weight grease in it . Also make sure you have a good battery ! It's electric n if battery isn't getting good amp n volts that also could be a issue
@@WaldensWorld Battery has 12.3 volts, engine runs perfectly cranks nice and strong. I do have a brand new one I can swap out to test. Guess I will start with the switches and work my way through the system from there. It shifts perfectly with the emergency foot shifter. Will check the grease also. The shift angle sensor, do you run honda oem or are the aftermarkets ok to use? Theres a good price difference in them. Im tempted to just get a bolt on foot shifter and call it a day.
Pull front servo motor off clean it all out have it plugged in but not hooked to quad n work the button make sure it's moving ok . The brushes in that motor can get hot n coated Wich will cause lack of contact to the shift armature
Sorry guess there is few parts to video It’s a shift motor Infront bottom of the motor on left side at very bottom of engine ! Looks like small motor for rc car basically ! The grease gets hard n gums up the shift motor !!
@@WaldensWorld Got it! Thank you! I'm familiar with that motor after watching a couple other videos too. Thanks for replying - lots don't do that! I appreciate it. I'll look for your other videos too.
ok my 2001 honda foreman 450 ES is having a bit of a shifting problom, i went to turn the key and it wont start because the gear position is showing Three dots, nothings working, what should i do?
Three dots ? Does it not normally say what gear ? There will be a sensor and wire by the shifter I’d find a diagram n see if that has wore out or the connector is going out !
Lol if I posted it , it's fixed . I have caught couple on fire . Backfire out the carb deal ! May not be your issues what's the symptoms n it's not showing what video your watching
I haven't heard back it's one of my buddies of 20 years . I'll ask him how it's doing still . If the servo hasn't got to hot I'd think it work fine ! That grease was like tar
Hello, there is a problem on my 2008 Honda trx250tm ES fourtrax. the indicator on the display shows a different position compared to the position on the gearbox. for example on the screen it says that the gearbox is in first gear, but the gearbox is actually in neutral and the green light for neutral does not light up. when I press the small handle and the button down to put it in reverse, the green light for neutral comes on and the gearbox is in reverse gear. I note that I can't get the letter R on the screen at all. I changed the angle sensor but everything is the same. Does anyone have a solution?
