Wellllll….you two cuddle bugs really had some great adventures this past weekend…good for you! I just went for an hour walk BECAUSE WE HAD A GLORIOUSLY SUNNY DAY (here in the Chicago area) with temperature 43 degrees. Now we’ve had 4…count them FOUR days…of sunshine since Thanksgiving….and I wasn’t going to waste one minute of getting some exercise and a month’s worth of ACTUAL vitamin D. It wasn’t as glorious as your fab breakfast or heart shaped yummy pizza….but it was just PERFECT for me! I loved every second of my stroll and even took pix of the sun…THE ACTUAL SUN…with my phone so I can refer back to what it looks like because the weatherman just said we are going to be getting rain/snow showers for the next few days with NO sun…just cloudy and cloudy and cloudy until next week….☹️😢. I’ll have to live vicariously through you two lovebugs! Maybe I’ll come over there and I can bask the the sun…or just the glow I’d get from spending time with you two. My son doesn’t come by much anymore because he says every time he stops by we ask him to do things for us. 😢I told him he has to realize we are old now and can’t do what we used to. He is a public servant (can you guess what he does) and I tell him he serves the public all day but complains when he has to help us. You are blessed your kids help you out so much.

I don’t know how you do it, but you always produce such interesting videos and sharing them means so much to many of us that simply don’t have as much going on in our lives. Love being a subscriber and getting that “notification” just as soon as a new video arrives. Then I make my coffee and enjoy my wonderful visit with both of you. I don’t know about the rest of your viewers, but I almost feel like one of the family. It’s so wonderful that once again we can all go to restaurants and enjoy such happy times with family and friends, just doing activities that we always took for granted before lockdowns took over our lives. I loved the adorable pizza, it was absolutely perfect for you and Moose. For the split pea soup, I simply rinse the peas well, dump everything into the crockpot and after cooking all day have an awesome soup with the perfect consistency. I still soak the split peas and usually make it all day long in a crock pot. I can’t stand the peas crunchy. My experiences with the Emerson blender have not been pretty,stuff usually flys all over the place. I use to live in So. Cal. And have been to Knotts Berry farm but never made it to medieval times. Great video
I love to add some fresh mint and other fresh herbs to my pea soup. I think it adds a lot of brightness and flavor. If you have some herbs you might try that

I love split pea soup and I don't soak my peas but always use my immersion blender and try to leave some of the peas not totally blended. I then pull meat off hammock and add back with some more carrots and cook a little longer to soften the carrots. Love it!

Re: Split Pea soup...I ALWAYS soak peas or beans overnight. Sometimes I soak them all day then put in crockpot on low overnight. The very few times I haven't are when I use my instant pot (pressure cooker). You look lovely today & that scarf REALLY would look good with that camel sweater. Nanny, you never have to apologize for being chatty. We love your stories, moments and memories. You are inspirational with a kind soul, and I adore your videos. My way of making split pea soup the evening prior…in my oval crock pot I put in my ham bone with pieces of ham, chopped onion, carrots, whole pepper corns, water and broth, of course split peas, not presoaked, cover and cook on low overnight and it’s perfect the next day. The peas are nicely softened and then remove the bone and stir well. Your so right, the second and third day it just gets better. Have fun and stay well. 😊

To me 'pulverized' soup is the best! With fresh buttery rolls, or melba toast! 🍞😋 My fist attempts at making pea soup and sugar bean soup were disastrous. I soaked overnight, did everything right, but the big mistake I made as a rookie housewife was to add salt to those when I started boiling them. Also, the water should start from cold. If you add salt in the beginning, the peas or beans will stay hard forever 😅😅😅
Thank you Nanny,I didn’t have to soak my peas but they were split yellow and the soup was delicious. Well I know having no hydro can be really inconvenient we were freezing. Well you sure have a lot of adventures. I can see the difference the makeup makes it’s lovely. Hugs Bea
I just made pea soup. It cooked about 4 hours. It was just the best along with the one hour bread recipe. It really does take awhile for the peas to break down. I usually start the soup at noon and we eat between 4:30 and 5 pm. I start will more water than recommended because it will cook down. Hope this helps you.

Enjoyed all your stories. You have so much going on. Good for you. When I cook beans I always soak them overnight. So I guess it would work with peas. We finally got our bathroom and kitchen redone from a leaky hot water heater. Took since first of September to get it done. Insurance paid it. New shower and new floors in bathroom and kitchen. It has been a trying time.glad it's done.

It’s so nice that Moosie likes to get out even with his mobility issues, Mr here who has mobility problems and uses a rollator walker and we we even have a wheelchair pretty much refuses to go out..I miss going out and struggle with guilt if I decide to meet up with my kids for lunch or dinner.

Beautiful scarf! You could wear with one of your winter white sweaters. Or mix with some of your wooden jewelry or your turquoise, just for color contrast. I also love the cake pan. Maybe you could make a cake with it and create a winter carnival theme(skaters, skiers, ice, etc.) Or a winter forest theme. I think that company, Nordicware, is located in Minnesota, about an hour from where I am. I agree that the peas are more crunchy if they're not soaked first. I like Moose, will eat it anyway, but I like you, do prefer that it's more creamy, smooth texture. Love the heart shaped pizza delivery from the kids! I know that you are in California but do you ever decorate with snowflakes or snowmen? I'm thinking of your fireplace mantel. Otherwise, what about white, yellow, pink flowers either faux or real. Hello Nanny, I have been making split pea soup for many years, I never soak them, only sort and rinse the peas and then cook with broth, as per package instructions. Always turns out good. Loved the heart shaped pizza! You, Moosie and the pizza are ready for Valentines Day! 🥰♥
Good morning Nanny, I really enjoyed your video chat. You are the best company as I power through my morning chores. (I’ve got baby finch and chickens and 2 spoiled Schnauzers that need care first thing) Regarding the pea soup, my most favorite, I rinse my split peas several times and may let them soak a while but have found it’s not necessary. As they come to a boil, I chop celery, carrots and an entire head of garlic. We love garlic here! I’ll add chopped ham or other type sometimes. The soup only needs to cook an hour or so. I add liquid as needed. Yum, we have pea soup often.🌷💚✨🙏
I had the same experience recently when making bean soup. Soaked the beans overnight, but they stayed crispy no matter how long I cooked them. My immersion blender solved the problem for me as well. Love & appreciation to you & aMoose

I did pretty much what you did, no soak, same ingreds. BUT in Instant Pot, 20 min per direct. When it was finished, the peas were cooked to mush - a tasty green soup with baby carrots & ham. Becuase I was going to take some to my kids, I used immersion blender to blend all of it to about 90%, to make it into a thick cream soup. It was good and even better tonight. ❤❤❤'d the sweet pizza and the clip! Gorgeous gifts too! Your makeup looks absolutely perfect today, every detail. I like your new W&W foundation color & always like your eyes that color. As I was leaving for church yesterday morning, having done hair, eyebrows, foundation, blush, etc. nice clothes...I noticed I had totally forgotten eyes and there was no time left😳🤭If it had been eyebrows that I had forgotten, I would have definitely skipped church! I have a cute pumpkin loaf pan, that Bundt pan would make a darling cake. A forest dusted with snow!!! I am so impressed with Micah’s pizza oven, I thought the heart pizza looked delicious! And another thing us Jersey girls have in common, yummy eggs Benedict! And I’m sure you can get your eye glasses fixed so they aren’t as wide. Oh and on the pea soup situation I always make mine in a pressure cooker. Never had problems with the beans being hard. But bake in the old days I always soaked mine overnight. Nanny, I had a dream you visited me and hubby in Long Island, NY. Haha it was so clear and I was giving you a teapot to take back to California with you. And you had on a red sweater, and looked fabulous! I was so excited you were there. Funny dreams. I also had a dream last week I went on a date with Al Pacino, but we’ll save that for another day 😂😂 As far as making Pea Soup, I do as follows: -Wash and sift thru peas for any hard clumps or stones. -Sauté onions, carrots and celery. ( and ham if wanted) (Season as you will S&P to taste) -Add chicken broth about 6-8 cups (add water later as needed) -Add peas -Bring to boil -Lower to simmer for about 1-2 hours -Test peas are soft -Use my blender immerser to blend HALF of soup -Add additional seasons if needed. Serve with homemade or store bought croutons. Enjoy❤ I also make my own pizza, much less sodium than store bought. Make my own sauce or use my favorite Jarred sauce in a pinch. Love the way it tastes so fresh with fresh basil and maybe arugula to finish. I just wish I had that great pizza oven at your daughters house. ❤ Buon Appetito Nanny and Moose ❤❤😢

Good Morning! Love the sweater and scarf! All the gabbing is just fine....there are probably lots like me who carry on a conversation with you 🤣 even though you can't hear me. If anyone was observing me they would probably cart me away! No pea soup here...hubby doesn't like peas but what really made a huge hit with him was your French Onion soup! He loved it and I loved how quick and easy it was tomake..so thank you for sharing that recipe. I have one of those immersion blenders (Kitchen Aid) I picked up on sale but I think the shaft is too short and for some reason it wants to come out of the handle occasionally....probably &a# bad reviews so it was put on sale 😜 bad impulse buy. FYI: Immersion blender is practical. Those big counter-top machines are too heavy to move around and clean. I don't have much counter space so must store it out of sight. It's heavy to lug from A to B. The other thing about the pea soup is that I always soak the peas overnight, regardless of what others tell me. Everything blends up nice and smooth.

So cute. My tip for dried peas or beans. Clean well, add to large pot and cover with a couple of inches of water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat. Let sit for an hour then drain. Back in the pot with the rest of your recipe and cook until it’s just the way you like it. Always works for me. As far as the immersion blender, I love mine and highly recommend them. Nanny, I just made yellow split pea soup two weeks ago. I did not soak overnight. I saute carrots, celery and onions for only about 5 minutes, then I remove 1/2 of them (so they will retain their shape and flavor and put them in the refrigerator. I then add the peas, water and the ham bone in the same pot and let it come to a boil. Turn to low and just let it simmer on low (not a hard boil) for 3 to 4 hours, stirring every 15-30 minutes or so. If I need more water, I add a bit. When the peas are dissolved, I remove the ham bone, add back in the refrigerated veggies and some diced ham that I cut up prior to the start. In about 10 more minutes we have a delicious and healthy soup for dinner! I do the exact same thing for green pea soup (yellow is our favorite, but sometimes it's hard to find the yellow split peas). I loved your chatty talk today! I plan to make homemade pizza tomorrow night. It is amazing how we have so much in common!
Love the new intro! The forrest tree bundt cake pan is beautiful. A lovely idea to create such a design! Not fun to not have electricity for a whole day.. We regularly have the water shut off, when they have to fix a pipe or clean something. Never a fun experience.. Please keep them coming and please don't feel you should "limit" yourself or the length of your blog. (You have mentioned this in more recent videos). Love listening to you. My life is limited due to illness and a severe injury from a fall down the steep stairs in my late 1800's home here in VT. I have only one child, a son, who is now 34 years old. I am 68. No grandchildren. My brother and sister live in ME. I see my sister at Christmas, but last Christmas we had terrible colds and my sister couldn't visit. I guess I depend on you for a connection...as my dear!y loved female members of my family are gone...mom and aunts. As I am writing this our black and white tuxedo kitty is snuggling up to me...and recently we have "adopted" an outside kitty who suddenly appeared. Just an aside because you also have your 2 kitties. I do not make pea soup, but I do make lentil soup. You cover the whole bag in a 6 qt. pan with water, bring to a boil and then wait an hour. I don’t know how you do it, but you always produce such interesting videos and sharing them means so much to many of us that simply don’t have as much going on in our lives. Love being a subscriber and getting that “notification” just as soon as a new video arrives. Then I make my coffee and enjoy my wonderful visit with both of you. I don’t know about the rest of your viewers, but I almost feel like one of the family. It’s so wonderful that once again we can all go to restaurants and enjoy such happy times with family and friends, just doing activities that we always took for granted before lockdowns took over our lives. I loved the adorable pizza, it was absolutely perfect for you and Moose. For the split pea soup, I simply rinse the peas well, dump everything into the crockpot and after cooking all day have an awesome soup with the perfect consistency. I still soak the split peas and usually make it all day long in a crock pot. I can’t stand the peas crunchy. My experiences with the Emerson blender have not been pretty,stuff usually flys all over the place. I use to live in So. Cal. And have been to Knotts Berry farm but never made it to medieval times. I love split pea soup and I don't soak my peas but always use my immersion blender and try to leave some of the peas not totally blended. I then pull meat off hammock and add back with some more carrots and cook a little longer to soften the carrots. Love it!

Re: Split Pea soup...I ALWAYS soak peas or beans overnight. Sometimes I soak them all day then put in crockpot on low overnight. The very few times I haven't are when I use my instant pot (pressure cooker).

My way of making split pea soup the evening prior…in my oval crock pot I put in my ham bone with pieces of ham, chopped onion, carrots, whole pepper corns, water and broth, of course split peas, not presoaked, cover and cook on low overnight and it’s perfect the next day. The peas are nicely softened and then remove the bone and stir well. Your so right, the second and third day it just gets better. Have fun and stay well. 😊

To me 'pulverized' soup is the best! With fresh buttery rolls, or melba toast! 🍞😋 My fist attempts at making pea soup and sugar bean soup were disastrous. I soaked overnight, did everything right, but the big mistake I made as a rookie housewife was to add salt to those when I started boiling them. Also, the water should start from cold. If you add salt in the beginning, the peas or beans will stay hard forever 😅😅😅
Moose always said…”no salt with ham!” but I didn’t know that about salt, Mia…❤️

I just made pea soup. It cooked about 4 hours. It was just the best along with the one hour bread recipe. It really does take awhile for the peas to break down. I usually start the soup at noon and we eat between 4:30 and 5 pm. I start will more water than recommended because it will cook down. Hope this helps you.

We finally got our bathroom and kitchen redone from a leaky hot water heater. Took since first of September to get it done. Insurance paid it. New shower and new floors in bathroom and kitchen. It has been a trying time.glad it's done.

It’s so nice that Moosie likes to get out even with his mobility issues, Mr here who has mobility problems and uses a rollator walker and we we even have a wheelchair pretty much refuses to go out..I miss going out and struggle with guilt if I decide to meet up with my kids for lunch or dinner.

Beautiful scarf! You could wear with one of your winter white sweaters. Or mix with some of your wooden jewelry or your turquoise, just for color contrast. I also love the cake pan. Maybe you could make a cake with it and create a winter carnival theme(skaters, skiers, ice, etc.) Or a winter forest theme. I think that company, Nordicware, is located in Minnesota, about an hour from where I am. I agree that the peas are more crunchy if they're not soaked first. I like Moose, will eat it anyway, but I like you, do prefer that it's more creamy, smooth texture. Love the heart shaped pizza delivery from the kids! I know that you are in California but do you ever decorate with snowflakes or snowmen? I'm thinking of your fireplace mantel. Otherwise, what about white, yellow, pink flowers either faux or real. Good morning Nanny, I really enjoyed your video chat. You are the best company as I power through my morning chores. (I’ve got baby finch and chickens and 2 spoiled Schnauzers that need care first thing) Regarding the pea soup, my most favorite, I rinse my split peas several times and may let them soak a while but have found it’s not necessary. As they come to a boil, I chop celery, carrots and an entire head of garlic. We love garlic here! I’ll add chopped ham or other type sometimes. The soup only needs to cook an hour or so. I add liquid as needed. Yum, we have pea soup often.🌷💚✨🙏

I had the same experience recently when making bean soup. Soaked the beans overnight, but they stayed crispy no matter how long I cooked them. My immersion blender solved the problem for me as well.

Sat. I made split pea soup for the 1st time. I did pretty much what you did, no soak, same ingreds. BUT in Instant Pot, 20 min per direct.
When it was finished, the peas were cooked to mush - a tasty green soup with baby carrots & ham. Becuase I was going to take some to my kids, I used immersion blender to blend all of it to about 90%, to make it into a thick cream soup. It was good and even better tonight.

I have a cute pumpkin loaf pan, that Bundt pan would make a darling cake. A forest dusted with snow!!! I am so impressed with Micah’s pizza oven, I thought the heart pizza looked delicious! And another thing us Jersey girls have in common, yummy eggs Benedict! And I’m sure you can get your eye glasses fixed so they aren’t as wide. Oh and on the pea soup situation I always make mine in a pressure cooker. Never had problems with the beans being hard. But bake in the old days I always soaked mine overnight. Nanny, I had a dream you visited me and hubby in Long Island, NY. Haha it was so clear and I was giving you a teapot to take back to California with you. And you had on a red sweater, and looked fabulous!

As far as making Pea Soup, I do as follows:
-Wash and sift thru peas for any hard clumps or stones.
-Sauté onions, carrots and celery. ( and ham if wanted) (Season as you will S&P to taste)
-Add chicken broth about 6-8 cups (add water later as needed)
-Add peas
-Bring to boil
-Lower to simmer for about 1-2 hours
-Test peas are soft
-Use my blender immerser to blend HALF of soup
-Add additional seasons if needed.
Serve with homemade or store bought croutons.
Enjoy❤
I also make my own pizza, much less sodium than store bought.
Make my own sauce or use my favorite Jarred sauce in a pinch.
Love the way it tastes so fresh with fresh basil and maybe arugula to finish.
I just wish I had that great pizza oven at your daughters house. ❤

No pea soup here...hubby doesn't like peas but what really made a huge hit with him was your French Onion soup! He loved it and I loved how quick and easy it was tomake..so thank you for sharing that recipe. I have one of those immersion blenders (Kitchen Aid) I picked up on sale but I think the shaft is too short and for some reason it wants to come out of the handle occasionally....probably &a# bad reviews so it was put on sale 😜 bad impulse buy.

FYI: Immersion blender is practical. Those big counter-top machines are too heavy to move around and clean. I don't have much counter space so must store it out of sight. It's heavy to lug from A to B. The other thing about the pea soup is that I always soak the peas overnight, regardless of what others tell me. Everything blends up nice and smooth.

Hi Nanny, my but you look lovely today. Hair, make up, everything perfect. Love catching up with you and yours, enjoyed all of it. That was one special pizza, glad you have a picture to remember it. So cute. My tip for dried peas or beans. Clean well, add to large pot and cover with a couple of inches of water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat. Let sit for an hour then drain. Back in the pot with the rest of your recipe and cook until it’s just the way you like it. Always works for me. As far as the immersion blender, I love mine and highly recommend them. We have Broken Yolk restaurants where I live in Texas ... so good! I love how you find ways to get together with your family ... always looking for the positive!
Nanny, I just made yellow split pea soup two weeks ago. I did not soak overnight. I saute carrots, celery and onions for only about 5 minutes, then I remove 1/2 of them (so they will retain their shape and flavor and put them in the refrigerator. I then add the peas, water and the ham bone in the same pot and let it come to a boil. Turn to low and just let it simmer on low (not a hard boil) for 3 to 4 hours, stirring every 15-30 minutes or so. If I need more water, I add a bit. When the peas are dissolved, I remove the ham bone, add back in the refrigerated veggies and some diced ham that I cut up prior to the start. In about 10 more minutes we have a delicious and healthy soup for dinner! I do the exact same thing for green pea soup (yellow is our favorite, but sometimes it's hard to find the yellow split peas). I loved your chatty talk today! I plan to make homemade pizza tomorrow night. It is amazing how we have so much in common!

I am catching up with past videos while I have some down time. I love your chatty chatty and rabbit hole stories. Please keep them coming and please don't feel you should "limit" yourself or the length of your blog. (You have mentioned this in more recent videos). Love listening to you. My life is limited due to illness and a severe injury from a fall down the steep stairs in my late 1800's home here in VT. I have only one child, a son, who is now 34 years old. I am 68. No grandchildren. My brother and sister live in ME. I see my sister at Christmas, but last Christmas we had terrible colds and my sister couldn't visit. I guess I depend on you for a connection...as my dear!y loved female members of my family are gone...mom and aunts. As I am writing this our black and white tuxedo kitty is snuggling up to me...and recently we have "adopted" an outside kitty who suddenly appeared. Just an aside because you also have your 2 kitties. I do not make pea soup, but I do make lentil soup. You cover the whole bag in a 6 qt. pan with water, bring to a boil and then wait an hour. Lentils...yum. If you would like I can include my recipe in a future comment. Thank you and God Bless.
