Just found your channel. My wife and i recently relocated from a townhouse in the suburbs of california to a 20 acre homestead in the heartland of america a little over a year ago. We moved here with a bunch of house cats. Now we have multiple flocks of chickens and game birds, 2 pyranese dogs, and 3 goats. Its been one heck of a year.

I agree with what you said except the wisdom part. I see too many old/older people that are bitter, closed minded and worst of all have no desire or energy/passion to change anything. I do think that if you want to improve and make an honest attempt to do so that you do grow and get wiser though. I also think that he is doing very well and with some fortune he/they will become even wiser/better. Cheers

I'm afraid we may be close to that point ourselves, but we still plan to charge full speed towards it. Our goal is to create a family refuge somewhere in the Appalachian range, possibly East TN area. I pray I can create a place to be used for my retirement and as a gathering place for our adult children. It would also serve as a safe haven if they ever fall on hard times. I will create a Trust and God willing fund it with enough money so that taxes and upkeep isn't a burden to them once my wife and I are gone. Best of luck to you and like the other poster mention, try to leverage equipment (if money is available) and barter with younger folks when needed.

We purchased our homestead three years ago in the Portland Oregon area. We didn't know at the time that the little farm next door was a pot growing operation which is legal here but could have hurt our property value..Fortunately they shut down the operation last year and moved. The new owners tore down all the hoop grow houses and don't plan to farm or raise anything. Always learn who your neighbors are and what they are doing or plan to do with their property before you buy. Thank you for all the great tips. They were all spot on.

We’ve been doing this a bunch of years and are still learning. Your points are spot on and I love seeing your good efforts and planning working for you! For those looking for land, try to get a place with infrastructure, especially if there is little excess funding. Don’t go into debt. The infrastructure, especially a good barn/workshop and fencing will allow you to get right into keeping animals. It is also a place out of weather to build new projects. Use quality materials because as time goes by it weathers and good materials last a very long time. A small house is ok at first but best if sound, not made of light cheep materials. Think using below ground where possible to keep a constant climate and for storm protection. Do lots of research. There really is nothing like growing food and living this lifestyle.

Great video in getting the word out. Most farmers/homesteaders will lend a hand. That's what we do. You can multiply sheep and goats, and sell the babies, (males) to make a profit. Hatch turkeys, and ducks. Sell the feathers. Gold Shaw farms does that. He's in New Hampshire. Cog Hill Farms, has arrangement with a flower shop, and he grows flowers for them. Beekeepers keep their hives on their land, they get free honey. So many things you can do. Thanks for sharing.

You and your beautiful wife hit the jackpot at the right time buying that property. God has indeed blessed you two and clearly has spectacular plans for you both (deals like what you two stumbled upon are no coincidence-He ALWAYS has a plan) . If I were your mom or MIL, I would be so proud of you two. While my daughter is still 16, I’m praying God leads her on this very path. When she was a little girl, all the way until she was 12 her plan was to own a lot of land and have every farm animal possible.
She also told me (before age 12) she would build me a small house on her land so she could always be near me… (melt my heart).
Now she wants to become a dermatologist… :/ I no longer trust M.D.s are being educated with the patient’s best interest in mind.
I’m LOVING knowing there are people in your age group that ‘get’ what’s really going on and are working against it.
Your family will forever be in my prayers. God bless you both and all your adorable animals!!
My mom grew up on a farm in southern Illinois then her family relocated to SE Michigan.
We had a massive garden in our backyard (actually in a subdivision -1970- 1990s).
My mom could no doubt feed us (family of 6) all year round if ‘tshtf’. She canned everything in that garden every fall and we ate those canned goods all winter long.
Unfortunately, I was an idiot child and never cared to learn gardening or cooking for that matter bc it wasn’t cool. I truly believed grocery store food was better than anything you could grow yourself. I now can’t even keep a house plant alive for more than a month… not kidding.
Thankfully, my daughter is interested in gardening, having her own chickens etc and her boyfriend is very very intelligent when it comes to fixing anything, especially cars. He is dyslexic and struggles academically, but could figure out how to build anything just by thinking about how to do it.
He does come from a very well to do family and is so driven to continue the family legacy. His dad passed less than a year ago dt colon cancer, which I believe makes him even more driven. If she and he remain together, I pray they take a path very similar to yours.
We need more regular people fighting the pre planned (planned for decades really) system ‘they’ are trying to roll out or shove down our throats.
… I’m a little fired up today bc I learned today the my Governor is not only at the W.*+E.*+F.*+ Convention, she will be speaking at it. Tell me she’s not neck deep in helping to roll out the climate Lockdowns and I’ll bet, MI will be the guinea pig state when it’s rolled out here in 2024-2025.
Pray my family gets out of MI b4 it’s too late.
    BTW:
Climate lockdowns are coming. They are rolling them out in England starting 2024. There is a town there that they have chosen to be the test for what works and what doesn’t regarding keeping us peasants in our “zones”. As it sits right now, us bottom feeders will be allowed out of our zone 100 days per year. -That’s Super generous.
As always, it’s a conspiracy theory until it isn’t.
Thank you again for making and sharing your videos. They help to relax me and make me think of my mom (rest her soul in heaven). Love YT farming & camping videos. Way better than watching MSM!!
    ✌🏼 and much Love.

I’m so proud of kids like this couple. I’ve come across a few “millennials” that just get it and are pushing against this ‘woke tide’ (sometimes feels like a tilde wave) and I LOVE IT!
I get disgusted when older generations gripe about younger generations. We need to be lifting them up- teaching them if they don’t know or don’t get it, not mocking them. These are the people that will be taking care of us someday. … well unless the US decides to join Canada in the MAID program. Once we retire and aren’t paying into the system, we aren’t of any use and simply cost our governments $$ at that point.

Also don't be afraid to ask others who you might not originally think of for knowledge and wisdom in things you might need to know. If I could find a logging company that would be willing to come in and cut the timber out for them removing all the stumps and clearing it and leveling some of the land out I would move back there and farm on our own land. The county I live in required three years of selling agricultural products in excess of $1,000.00 on your IRS filing each year before an application could be submitted. Wonderful vid. Im going to start a homestead, 30 yrs ago wen i was married we had a mini ranch, its what I wanted. Unfortunately the hubby was into other stuff so now Im gunna do this on my own. Wld be nice to hav a partner tho. I kno land prices are gunna drop so Im patiently waiting to pull the trigger on one.

Hey KY neighbor👋 Start small.. & Wanted 20 acres min😂 My husband wanted to buy 17 acres and I was overwhelmed by that. We bought a nice house with 5 acres which has been amazing. We also have a young child so had to consider what her life style would be. Now I want more land like min 20😂
Much harder to do though when your child is in competitive sports.

I'm in Ontario Canada. I have no idea how I'll ever find land I can afford.. I don't even know how to begin.. I may need to relocate my family in the future.

I know I'm commenting on this a year after you made uploaded the video, but I don't think there will be much of a dip in real estate prices.
    - Inventory is still insanely low (not enough houses to meet the demand).
    - Interest rates are at a 30-year high, yet the market hasn't slowed down, and prices still haven't dropped.
    - 2024 is an election year, and election years always have a false economy to make the incumbents seem successful.
    - Because of the false economy, interest rates will most likely decrease, thus bringing more buyers into the market and causing real estate prices to go up even more.
The key is a willingness to relocate like y'all did. No different than the immigrants and homesteaders 150 years ago, you have to be willing to leave the "nest."
