Wow I just installed gta-sa a week ago using your old video series! It's such a great feeling to be able to play san andreas again! (even if the snapshots occasionally crash the game) I hope to get Vice City working after this.
I'd definitely recommend following this new series if you don't mind starting over! Much more in-depth and you'll learn how to prevent things like crashing.
After restarting the game following the instructions it does work and the snapshots were better. I didnt get a crash until I took snapshot number 40 something. The snapshot crashes are a known issue but apparently a little less common. I'll post on your discord later this weekend with more details. 👍
just so you know pirates copys do work with your guides it actually fixes alot of things in the game following your steps lol rockstar doesnt sell the game nomore and getting a digital copy is impossible i think the best way to go is a pirate copy or a dvd version but thank you for all the info its appreciated!
I mean I know it works myself, it should work with the majority of versions. But some pirated copies are dreadful with modifications made to them already, they likely won't work and I don't want to deal with issues like that, it's really not my problem. Plus, I don't want to deal with RUclips and pirated content, it'll likely be okay, but not taking the risk.

Damn, thanks so much for this. Was trying to mod San Andreas a couple years ago and failed horribly, the game got so fucked that it wouldn't even start anymore. Like, I didn't even get an error message or anything, just clicked the .exe and then literally nothing happened (the unmodded game was working completely fine, it only stopped working after I tried to install mods, so I am sure that it was my own fault). Very glad that I now got a guide and can finally start modding the game without destroying everything XD

Thanks for this amazing guide, TJ! Another tip for finding the game files on Steam: it's quicker to right-click the game, hover the mouse on "Manage" and then click "Browse local files". This opens the game's root folder.

11:06 - The reason why your mouse locks up when playing San Andreas is because by default depending on your hardware, San Andreas uses all 16 of your CPU processors, causing the game to crazy and reject your mouse inputs. To fix it, you need to go to your task manager while the game is running, and limit the game to use only 1 CPU processor, that'll make the mouse issues disappear. I'm glad that SilentPatch makes it so even if San Andreas uses all of your CPU processors, the game will accept your mouse inputs.
if you're playing modded gta on linux with wine, you might want to watch out for "copy-to-game-directory" mods that use different file/folder capitalization in ext4 (and others), different capitalization means different file names (e.g. "cleo" and "CLEO") this actually happened to me somehow
11:07 If you cant navigate with mouse you can just simply go to task manager(ctrl+shift+esc) go to details, find gta sa, right click on it and set coligation to only one processor(no matter which). Unfortunatly you will have to do that every time you run the game, but you can get used to it.
I don't think there will be any installation method better than modloader. The best i ever had for an old game like GTA SA because before modloader any little mistake replacing any texture f***ed everything up and you had to reinstall the game so having a backup could save you life. Now you just need to erase the mod folder that makes conflict with the game and the issue is fixed. Fast, very easy and you don't risk your game, that's why i think modloader is the best mod ever made for GTA SA, a huge advance for modding community.

Pirated copys can be done if you delete the files GameuxInstallHelper and FirewallInstallHelper both are .dll files and this seemed to fix it for me and allow me to play hoodlum version without any crashes or bugs

Just letting everybody know that if they want the game they should hypothetically be able to buy the classic trilogy edition off rockstars site then when you install sanandreas you replace the rockstar exe with a steam one you source off the web then you can run the 1.0 downgrade tool through it. The files between versions are all the same(minus the deleted 1.0 content that is restored by the tool) but the tool needs a recognizable exe file which the rockstar games launcher version is not one of those. I used the steam exe trick when i copped my free copy of sanandreas off rockstars launcher years ago when it first launched because their version was riddled with problems like the cam having a seizure and control issues in general

I’ve got the game running and I’m already on Version 1.00, I can right click my game application on desktop and get to my game directory like you’re showing in the video at 6:25! You'll need to follow my downgrading guide first before following this guide. You won't be able to launch from the disc anymore either, instead you just run the game off of your PC storage.
Which would be better to mod the rockstar versions or the steam version? Rockstar has the original trilogy still for sale but steam only has the definitive version.

Can we also use this guide to mode the Android version from a mobile itself? If not, will there be any tutorial in future for modding GTA San Andreas? As Android also have modloader for San Andreas and many cleos, other files for modding etc.
Just a note, windows can natively extract zip but not rar and some other compression. 7zip is used to a variety of compression including rar.
my windows 10 can extract a rar though
I'm a bit of a masochist, I like to install mods manually, without modloader, just with a few extra IMGs.
