Mesh tape will always be easier fyi. Put a small amount of mud on the patch edges where the tape will go. Put the tape down making sure to cover the entire gap of the hole. Add more mud to completely hide the tape and try to taper the edge of your mudwork to make sanding easier. It might take two or more coats of mud if you don't do a clean job, and that's okay! Try to not put too much mud on the wall as sanding is really messy.
Great job. I plan to add wood blocking behind drywall to hang a shelf afterwards would you opt for mesh tape or paper tape?
Paper tape not used for repairs only new buildssny sheets drywall. Or , 90 degree corners only time I use that junk
