  • This was an auction that’ll be hard to top. Not only were there hundreds of tools, I seemed to be the only person on site with a high interest in buying a lot of them. It was the scenario we all dream of and y’all, I lived it up.

    11:14 the first tool is a Shinto Rasp and the second is a Cowles rug or carpet stretcher. The third item IS a scale, but you're missing the trays for it. I really like the scorp! Finding them at a decent price isnt easy. Ive usually found them for close to 175 all day long.

    • @justplanefun

    That file at 11:20 I have seen alot of Guitar Builders Use them to hog out the bulk of the Wood on a Neck Build, "Roughing in the Neck". That one is older than any one I have seen. Very Nice.

    • @davidozab2753

      That's what I use my Shinto rasp for. The coarse side for rough shaping, then the fine side followed by rasps, files, and sandpaper.
      Shaping necks is my favorite part of guitar building

    At 9:35, that looks like a float, or at least the cutting teeth do... I know they come in weird styles, but I've never seen one with the double handles on it.
    Edit: floats are used like rasps but they basically have saw teeth that are really wide. Commonly used to flatten wooden plane beds.
    At 11:15, that's a shinto rasp, and the rake thing almost looks like those tools carpenters use to draw two boards under tension close together, though I'm not certain.

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info! Definitely a Shinto rasp - lots of folks smarter than me around here 😅
      I’ve seen a float or two but like you, I haven’t seen one shaped like this.

      I like the theory for the rake looking tool. I can definitely see how that could be its purpose
