Excerpt from Matthew Henry's commentary on Isaiah 59 Zion was a type of the gospel church, for which the Redeemer acts in all his appearances: The Redeemer shall come for the sake of Zion; so the Septuagint reads it. [2.] The persons that shall have the comfort of the Redeemer’s coming, that shall then lift up their heads, knowing that their redemption draws nigh. He shall come to those that turn from the ungodliness in Jacob, to those that are in Jacob, to the praying seed of Jacob, in answer to their prayers; yet not to all that are in Jacob, that are within the pale of the visible church, but to those only that turn from transgression, that repent, and reform, and forsake those sins which Christ came to redeem them from. The sinners in Zion will fare never the better for the Redeemer’s coming to Zion if they go on still in their trespasses.
@keithkahley I got a late start at age 65 studying the Bible but I do now believe that many who claim to understand the Bible are 'interpreting' according to preconceived ideas or misinformation. A saying; it may not be what we know, but, what we know that just isn't so that keeps us from better understanding a subject. But then in the case of the Bible we must have guidance of The Holy Spirit as per, "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Cor. 2:14 ESV. BUT also consider whether the particular concern regards salvation or is what some, @nuthajason, call secondary issues or what I have come to think of as 'peripheral' issues, as is the case of who are 'Zion'. If you have an interest in this, you might consider Psalm 105:23 "...Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham." KJV I accept, but have yet to, with absolute certainty confirmed, that the people of the land of Ham tend towards the dark end of tan on the color spectrum of humans. And then in Exodus 2:19 Reuel's daughters mistook Moses for an Egyptian which may likely indicate he could not be distinguished from the people of Ham by physical appearance. Also, if you are considering any of this comment you might look up Maurycy Gottlieb on Wikipedia. I happened on this Ukrainian born 'Jewish' painter almost by accident. When I show his image on Wikipedia to various people, a teacher with the House of Jacob, a random African American at Walmart, and a Polish banker at my Chase branch in Chicago the response is very interesting to say the least. Not to belabor the issue but consider Ecclesiastes 3:11 in all your considering. "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end."
Joel 2 23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. 24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil. 25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. 26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. 27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. 🎉
He is speaking of Paradise, after this sin-filled world is consumed by fire. Only a few will make it. Matthew 7:13-15 “Enter through the narrow gate. I had to listen to this twice today. A real eye opener 🙏✝️❤️
