I made a similar comment to Pete Finch, I’m my opinion, competition in any sport, no matter what standard you are at, is to best way to improve and as a consequence enjoy it more. As a once competitive player myself it’s the main aspect of golf I miss.
Nothing wrong with coaching, tips or some of the less serious videos but putting yourself on camera with the pressure of a comp is good to see. 👍

Feel your pain Matt , it’s been the wettest2034/2024 I can remember and my course Cowdray in West Sussex is hilly and drains really well but still has suffered , we had a club match versus Liphook ( a real gem) at Cowdray on Monday and it was cancelled 1 hour before play due to the greens flooding. So pleased to see you enthused about playing competitive golf .

Hello Matt, i don’t regularly comment on your videos but this one i felt i had to , mainly because of the excitement in your face on being back out on the course playing in comps again.
i feel you should play what you can at the moment even if its the club stableford, it gives you that prep ready to go back on it for the season next year.
despite the two rain struck comps its been great watching you get that buzz for the game we all love again

When Sergio Garcia turns up for open qualifying he brings his caddie he doesn't say you stay home i dont need you its only qualifying. Matt they call you a infuencer so use your infuence get a low handicap member from the course you are playing comp at. Commit to a practice round with them maybe some content about that. Then focus on your golf win the comp let the caddie keep everything clean and dry.
You'll have to organise a set of winter competitions or tag onto a local group that play regularly. There has to be a way of playing competitive golf with other guys, they don't just stop playing through winter surely.... Best of luck with finding others that want to play as much as you do. 🤞🏼
As many have said, playing in as many comps as possible is the best way to improve performance, no matter what the level of the comp. In between, practice like crazy OUTSIDE. Simulators are not the answer. Practice from REAL lies, as there are no slopes in the simulator!

Play as many comps as you can. It’s not all about playing the best courses in the best condition. Grind it out and compete 👍🏻

When ever I get tired of sunny warm weather I just watch British RUclipsrs play golf inside a fish bowl😂 We almost got a hulk siting on the 4th hole 😂
Go for it next season matt . Considerate on your weaknesses for the rest of this year and through the winter. You put a lot of pressure on yourself if you hit a bad one just leave it on the last hole and stick to your game plan.

Firstly Matt, your energy levels and sense of purpose have demonstrably grown in the past few months and that is a fantastic thing. It shines through in your presence and content. Secondly, I feel you have created a more unique channel and are differentiating yourself from others.
Turning to your call for insights/inspiration/opinion etc etc ...... I won't comment about golf in the specific sense. I think that will be well and truly covered.
I believe that your success next year is sown by planning now for the April start line. I think you can clearly imagine what you want to look and feel like IF, you do the hard work in the next 5 months. The key question is simple, what is the right work to do and then plan to do it; systematically and progressively.
To my earlier point, in the wider sense top tier golf now encompasses as standard things such as diet, strength/conditioning, flexibly and mental resilience. I think these things if done properly and consistently will give you an edge. Whether it be driving distance, injury prevention, physical endurance, fortitude or just looking good in gear. I always remember the words of Daley Thompson and Steve Ovett when they said that they never skipped a day's training (including Xmas Day) as they imagined their opponents doing so. They wanted it that badly they couldn't not do what was necessary.
So my point is this, if you really want it, get in the gym/yoga classes (or where ever), see a sports psychologist (if need be) and do the work. The man you'll be in April 2025 will thank you for it.

Matt, your are obviously very excited about entering more comps. You must look for comps when abroad, but give the winter series at home ago. I'm sure this will help prepare yourself for the 2025 season when you will win your 1st Competition
I'd be inclined to play in as many as you can, either Alliance or Warrington, just to keep the competitive edge
Competition whether against friends or serios is always the way.If i lose i use the loss as a way to do better next time.KEEP UP WITH VIDS THEY ARE GREAT TO WATCH AND SEEING YOU EXCITED ABOUT YOUR GAME IS FANTASTIC!
Any competition is better than no competition, even if it’s just to get your pre game routine down pat. Love the channel.
Despite it being a short round, more than enjoyed your company. Hopefully get a full round in next season
Pitching and chipping woes. The way I see it is in the UK you have to have two mindsets and abilities. In the sunny season you need spin and in the wet your don't need spin because the greens are generally wet and the ball will stop quicker anyway. Softer fairways always harder to chip/pitch from. Get over to sunnier places and hone your game where you can in a polo shirt, not crunchy waterproofs and wet cabretta

When you are in Dubai, look for comps in Abu Dhabi or even slightly further afield in the like of Doha (40 minutes on a plane). You maybe able to pick up a few comes while in Dubai.
Definitely keep competing, I don’t know when the schedule is released for next year but I would try to get onto the courses over the winter to gain a feel for the layouts etc.
focus on practice, but as you’ve said before practice with a purpose so sharpen the short game. Try to compete at least once a month winter conditions or not and I guess when you play no gimmies, hole everything out. Make sure you nail those 3 footers so easy to mess up

This gives you a chance to work on parts of your game that you feel needs work, play some just to keep in competitive mode, and fine tune your game, then next season you should be in better form when u start a full season.. good luck.

The title of this one caught me a little off-guard. In spite of it, your commentary was the typically positive MF that I've come to enjoy. The title, though, was totally out of character. Play some winter golf, playing in tougher conditions is good. It challenges you. Keep trying to play competitive golf so you get back into the flo.

I thought your golf pretty good in awful conditions ! The top players would have 18 dry gloves in the bag , and a caddy to deal with the nuisance of keeping clubs dry etc.
Find competitions to play in as others have said . I suggest you find a well drained links course to play/ practice through the winter , avoid wet parkland courses !
Biggest plus you were less nervous this time . However do not expect to have no nerves . In my opinion no nerves mean you do not care , which is no good .
Playing competitions will also help your game in all the other videos you put out .
What about the Farmfoods Tartan tour in Scotland?
was around 20-22nd September 2024?, if so they should have looked at the forecast before going ahead with the event so they can avoid having to suspend and cancel tournaments like that tournament

Playing in Britain will improve your British chances. Hot climes produce different golf.
Wow... standing water on the greens and they still made you guys play in that? Those are miserable conditions and the mindset had to be "hang on!", literally (to your golf club).
Just enter any , better than just sitting there and learning nothing. More too experience to get more progess

Difficult conditions. Unfamiliar course. Second comp. Not exactly a recipe for a great round. Do not be too hard on yourself. Learn. Move on.

Maybe you should play in a weekly comp at your home club ,that may help in getting you used to competition golf ,having to post a score,plan your way around,getting used to playing with different players ,worth a shot
That would be a good idea, but he won't do it because like most "club" pros he's not really a scratch golfer.
So he has two choices.
1, get a real handicap and play off 5 or so. Losing the scratch comp every single week to a nobody. Along with all the damage that does to the channel.
2, retain his scratch status and lose, badly, every single week. Along with all the damage that does to the channel.

I am lucky enough to live at Hurlston Hall and to be a member. It is a really tricky course in the rain. Enjoying the videos Matt.
I am not a great player, but I love playing in competitions. If you have a chance, play as many as you can now, because you never know what the future holds. So find a way to go play in Turkey. Remember, nobody on their death bed ever said they wished they had spent more time at work!! Go Play!!
Go for Irland, play in comps around your area, use the travells to practice and relaxing. Built up youre feel for comp during winter by just play the lokal strokeplay/mathplay comp that are easy to go to. Allow the winter be your time to grow and then jump on board with PF and his comp-serie, I do think you guys would pull eachother forward.
I am not sure what kind of comps you have in the UK during the winter months, but if you could spend some time in the US in Florida you could easily find some winter comps with some decent competition or even get some colabs with a few people to have some competitive rounds and perhaps get Rick and Peter to join you for a month or two. But either way keep at it and I really enjoy your brutally honest content, and your father is a gem of a human.

The comps are really cool to watch. As someone coming back to golf after a long hiatus and really wanting to get good enough to get into some amateur comps, its really cool to see. I really think that the comps keep you honest in terms of how you view your game - there is no hiding from the flaws in your game, attitude and focus. Please do your best to continue competing, because it does you good!
Do the club comps. Get your juices ready for March and then hammer the PGA comps all season next year.
