Very nice posting indeed. And yes - technology can only take you as far as technology has reached into our lives. Once you are outside those boundaries - it is u p to nature and your ability to tune into nature. Try to travel outside major developed areas in China with a GPS. Sometimes, it starts 10 miles outside the Airports. Streets have no names. Villagers know their villages and if you are lucky, a general direction where the next village is. And once you are there - ask again.

I think it’s great that you explored the alternative routes that google have suggested as I can imagine most people that want to visit your location would be quite daunted. Even before google maps I once used a paper map in Greece and it took me through vineyards and wheat fields, which was an adventure but also very daunting. Still, I made it to my intended destination.

Google maps are great, but you must also use common sense and have a good attitude. Coming here it also helps if you enjoy some adventure :)
