No talking, just walking. Exploring the English Countryside. A nice gentle walk exploring Gold Hill. A steep cobbled street in the town of Shaftesbury in the English county of Dorset. The view looking down from the top of the street has been described as "one of the most romantic sights in England." At the top of the street is the 14th-century St Peter's Church. A lovely walk, do enjoy.

Hi there, I‘m Dave! I've lived in the English Countryside all my life, and I love it! I enjoy walking, and couldn’t help but notice just how beautiful the UK can be away from the cities. I use the free version of Davinci Resolve 16 to do some really basic editing. Mainly making sure the sky isn't over exposed. It's from Camera straight to RUclips. No cuts, no fancy business, no talking, just walking.

I remember this from the magical Hovis ad back in the day. Greetings from Ireland. How quaint this place would be without the imposition of cars, road marking and signage.
I am with you on the cars and the endless signage and road markings. I forever imagine what places would look like without them.
@@DavesWalksWell, just like in the old days: horses, bulls, sh*t and urine on the roads. People have to get around somehow and I am not entirely sure that it used to be so romantic before :) But coming from a post-soc country, I remember a lot less cars on the roads and my parents even more so. It was nicer in a way, but then again, everything was slower, took a lot more effort and time and money. I think balance is a partial solution. Balance cars, public transport, bikes and pedestrian transport and it’ll make life immediately more enjoyable - esp. in the cities.

From India very peaceful and beautiful houses the roads very nice the shops are very beautiful and very nice the vehicles nice going and coming the people are nicely doing shopping the roads very wide and length very nice area and neat the weather is so nice

This was the hill used in the Hovis advert made in the early 70s. Imagine having to push a bicycle with a basket full of bread up there! But they used to do it, in all weather. For those interested the advert is also on RUclips.

When you were at the top of Gold Hill looking down at that view, Thomas Hardy came to mind. Dorset seems quite picturesque.

Fantastic job, Dave! We discovered that we were there 2 months after you shot this in 2023, having stayed at the Pump House Cottage (you paused on it in minute 17). We didn't know whether or not our time there overlapped yours until we completed your video, so we half-expected to see our rental van parked on Gold Hill Lane, or pass you on the sidewalk! 😄What a joy it was visiting Shaftesbury and the surrounding area. I love your walk videos but one way that can improve your videos is to trace out your path on Google Earth and show the bitmap on the screen before your walk. I've seen other walk videos do this and it helps to give us an idea on where you are. 😊

My guess is that aside from the cars and a few other modern things, this place probably hasn't changed much in centuries.
I mean, if someone were to somehow come back from say 100 years ago or more, they'd easily recognise it.
There's not many places left where that could be said. I guess it's a bit of a time bubble in that sense. Thanks for the upload.

This was mid afternoon on the Uk's hottest day of 2022. I believe it reached 40 degrees in many places. I imagine it's quieter than usual due to it being so hot. Fortunately I thrive in hot temperatures. This was a long day of filming, I visited 3 other places on that day, so it was an early start to the day. I do avoid traffic and people as best I can though.

I was thinking this was closer to midsummer until I saw something saying it was a month ago - so something like mid April. So quiet. Perhaps it was a weekday? Liked the famous Hovis bike, the view from the park and the quiet church with the distinctive sound of wood pigeons
This was later in summer, judging by what flowers are out. It was hot - that lady in the High St uses her parasol in very hot weather. The post office was shut, but Saturday market was on in the Town Hall. The Town Hall clock said 3.45, so I'm guessing it was a Saturday afternoon during that hot spell in July 2022.
Can anyone please explain the interesting architectural arrangement at the beginning of the video on the left of the screen?
Not sure what there is to say about it really, just a standard house.
@@DavesWalks I was referring to that strange one-foot-wide roof arrangement which extends down from the first floor to (what looks like) ground level. That's certainly not standard, I've never seen one before.
Ah ok sorry, to my knowledge it doesn't serve any function than to just add to the aesthetics of the building, making it a little less plain. Id say it is common in England, I see quirky and unusual designs all the time. Particularly in older villages.

Beautiful…some say. Quaint, I will concede. And peaceful, god yes. But cramped, claustrophobic to me. A nice place to be buried. Each to his own, but thanks Dave.

@@DavesWalks, Thanks for your reply, Dave, and for not taking offense at my sauciness. Your question has haunted me although I didn't immediately reply because I have no satisfactory answer. As I thought about it, I realized that many places have their various charms but none is perfect. For pure bucolic charm, an Alpine village would seem to me -- at first blush -- hard to beat. But first blush doesn't really last that long. When I tired of cowbells and my view of spectacular mountain peaks, I would be looking for something with more life. Maybe a resort town on one of the Italian lakes. But onIy for a while. I think of myself as preferring a quiet, monkish sort of life, but the truth is that some human bustle is something that I start to miss fairly quickly. Even life in a big, bustling city can be appealing with a nearby park and ideal conditions. No place is perfect or eternally satisfying. I guess that's why we like to go on holiday. Cheers.
