$150 to fix the water pump? I just replaced my cooling system ( water pump and thermostat ) and its $400 in parts from ecs using the good stuff. The maintenance on these cars is easily done by anyone that can turn a wrench and follow a video. Don't let this video scare you, These are amazing cars for those people that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty
Well 😂😂😂 not all maintenance a lot of the electrical components need coded by bmw and the timing chain probably shouldn't be done by just anyone.......
For the manual gearbox version, check that you don't have a strange sound when pushing down the clutch halfway when in neutral. That's a worn out dual mass flywheel and a costly replacement if you can't do it yourself. Buying the parts online and doing the job yourself is around 600$.
The main point of any car is mantanance, and if now and days being a mechanic/technician is a gift and given talent. Those of us who are I'm sure have saved war bucks. Unless you are a engineer, doctor, or shyster (lawyer). Then this talent is king anywhere. Again Thank's Nathen for really informative content and your BMW info. BMW owner.
Good information man. I appreciate it! im trying to learn all this stuff before I get one. watching your vids makes me really think I might be able to do some of this stuff.
yea you just confirmed my doubts that I just have to go and pick a random car by luck.. or I'd have to go with 5-page check list to "expect" a car and sit there for like 4 hours... like I'm gonna figure out if a hose is soft enough to be considered bad
You have to be smart about these cars. If the valve cover gasket leaks, change the VANOS sensor at the same time. The coil packs will all go at about 85k miles. Spark plug and wire change is what it takes. At 100k plus you will need a water pump, hoses and maybe a radiator. The AWD system is reliable but you can get some failures of the rear seals and gears when they get loud. Early AWD cars had transmission failures but the new ones are fine with regular flush and fill. One main problem is with the battery housing which tends to fry out at 100k which there is a factory recall on but they never tell you about it. Great driving and handling cars but you have to pay a bit more for them. Welcome to the world of nice cars.
Stupid question from me. I have had my 330d 2010 staing outdoor the whole winter, without driving it. Snow and about 0-15degree C. Is it dangerous for the car? I’m starting to change the battery next week, then 😅. Anyway, than’s for the info.
Change motor mounts and oil filter housing gaskets if you are looking into an e90 335i. It'll help prevent any possiblity of a failing serpentine belt due to oil corrosion or the power steering pulley smacking the subframe and damaging the belt. You can also easily inspect the wastegate by reaching down (on a cold car of course) and checking for over excessive play. I would do an oil service as well as a coolant flush that way you can be 100% sure you have the correct oil and coolant types.
I have an opportunity to buy a one owner no accident 2011 328i drive with 50,000 Connecticut miles for $12,900 from a used car dealer who got the car from a BMW dealer who received it as a trade in. What do you think? What questions should I ask?
@@kylehunter6679 I am enjoying the car and it's a pleasure to drive. However, I had to spend $2,000 in repairs to replace a blown gasket 10 months after my purchase and a thruster arm this summer. When you buy a car that is 10 years old you have to expect some maintenance repairs like these. It's not a new car. Just make sure to do your due diligence in examining the car for any maintenance issues or for signs of a recent paint job that may hid some damage. Good luck. Let us know what you did.
I'd like to know where you found a water pump for 150 bucks... Mine has almost 200k miles on it, I think I should replace it, but I haven't had a deviation code pop up yet...
ebay and on amazon just make sure that the origin of the maker is Germany it will have a stamp on the end of the water pump, Also iits a very good idea to replace the thermostat at the same time as the pump for they are bolted together, You both parts in a combo kit from 150 - 179 us dollats, on check pout they will make you enter your vehivle info to make sure it fits

Hahaha for anyone who doesn't understand the cost that goes into BMW they haven't been initiated yet and you probably scared them off. At the end, all this is worth the engineering masterpiece. Thanks for the great guide. I'm going from the ol' reliable E46 to E93
Don't worry. What he is talking about is worst case scenario. If it looks good and drives good, then you normaly have good car. Take it to a workshop and check it.
BMW owner here 2011 E93 for 6 years. First six years a Sherman Tank, this last year a tiny rough since she's getting a little older at 70,000 miles. I still love her. All high compression high performance cars are a little tricky to maintain. They need love, and unless you have the money and/or the know how then you're asking for trouble that's all. Approach eyes wide open, do your research, inspect each candidate thoroughly, and if you enjoy driving these cars as I do, you'll be okay. Just keep some funds available for those unexpected repairs we all have to make regardless of the car, if it's an older model. Get an extended warranty if new or certified used. If you're on a tight budget, then maybe this car isn't for you.
the paint will tell you a lot of how car was maintained... 5 seconds later, it's a ll scratched up but it don't got anything to do with how the car was maintained. afterwards I'm closing this video and throwing my pc from 10th floor.

you mention an auto tranny flush costing $500 or more. What is your opinion of say an outfit like brakes plus with a flush machine that claims to change your fluid for a bit over $100?
I wouldn't flush the trans, change the fluid and filter , if you do it yourself its around $55
Disconnected CAI inlet duct is a sure red flag!

Damn it was free for me to replace my entire cooling system including the reservoir and radiator fan (thermostat waterpump) and it was fixed by a certified bmw mechanic don’t let people get u away from buying this car yeah it’s plastic city but overall imo it’s the best car UNDER 8k USD my opinion if ur looking for a god car or something that’s gonna last forever if ur just cheap asf get a damn Toyota..
Bmw dealer $1600 for water pump which failed at 80k miles.
Hahaha for anyone who doesn't understand the cost that goes into BMW they haven't been initiated yet and you probably scared them off. At the end, all this is worth the engineering masterpiece. Thanks for the great guide. I'm going from the ol' reliable E46 to E93
Did you ever get the e93?
How did he expose the tow hich on the front??.. my bumpers missing the cover and I want that thing sticking out too! Lol
Polish the headlights....
The way u think u cannot buy a used car.
lmao 3 series parts are pretty cheap in general if u can fix them yourself
U just made me scared I'm not buying a BMW
Kenneth Green Sr no thing scary if you are willing to work on the car by your self
So basically just avoid buying one of these pieces of shit?
Look for a mechanic, nothing but problems.
the paint will tell you a lot of how car was maintained... 5 seconds later, it's a ll scratched up but it don't got anything to do with how the car was maintained. afterwards I'm closing this video and throwing my pc from 10th floor.
e91 is not a wagon it is the facelift
Absolutely wrong. E91 is the wagon. Both pre-facelift and post facelift limousine/sedan is called E90.
That was the worst video I have ever seen those things could be applied to any video. In short "make sure it's in good shape".
What you need to look for is another brand. BMWs suck
first thing to look for is a car that is not a BMW.
Thank you for your great advice!
Thank you, very informative!
