- This video was created to support a workshop I was taking and it steps you through how to crochet a pumpkin in Aran/Bulky weight yarn using a 6.0mm hook. All terminology is in UK crochet terms so when I mention a double crochet (dc) this is a US single crochet (sc).
I hope you enjoy making pumpkins!! And remember, change you yarn weight and/or hook size to adapt the size of the pumpkin!!
For the pumpkin made in the video:
Foundation chain: Ch17
Row 1: Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, dc in each chain, ch1, turn (16sts)
Row 2: Dcblo in each st, ch1, turn (16sts)
Repeat row 2 until the length of the rectangle is twice the width. On the last row, don't ch1, just turn and don't finish off.
Bring the two short ends together and slip stitch closed, leave a long tail for sewing together, cut yarn and finish off. Using the long tail and a tapestry needle gather around one of the open edges of the pumpkin. Pull tight to close and sew a few stitches to secure the hole. Weave the yarn through the middle of the pumpkin, stuff with toy stuffing and the close the other side in the same way. Push the needle through from top to bottom four or five times to cinch the pumpkin in. Add a cinnamon stick, using hot glue, for the stalk!
