Speaking to a kit manager in the elite league (UK) the major problem with the new Bauer holder if that if the centre bar snaps, the whole holder is gone, they have had to replace 7 holders so far into the season.
I bought the Jetspeed Control two weeks ago of sideline swap and I was looking for review video for it here in the channel before buying since it sounded and was priced too good to be true however I’m in love and it’s a great pair of wheels definitely a great choice
I love my ft 6 skates, but getting the blade out is a pain in the ass. The quick release from bauer is better. Neither me nor my son ever had our Steele pop out.
I'd like to see a review on durability of the holders. I have the old Shift holders on my Trues and have had to replace them on both skates due to them cracking.
The Bauer holder pitch are way more recline forward (on your toes). The difference in feeling when you skate is HUGE when you compare the two holders(Xs vs PF X). Any intermediate, advanced or skilled skater would see the difference in one stride.
I use both, True SVH as well as Bauer Hperlight2 pro custom. The SVH for coaching and the Bauer for playing. When switching from True to Bauer it feels like I am heel heavy. It takes me some minutes on the ice to get used to the Bauer when I last skated on the SVH.
Wait? At about the 14:00 mark you state that "Bladetech flex fit runners will fit any of the quick release holder sytems out there....whether it's from CCM, True or from Baur". Is that correct? It looks like the flex fit runners would only fit CCM & Bauer where the True runners have a very large protruding piece. Am I wrong?
@ thanks tips. When I made this comment our hockey tutorial mate, Chris stated the “bladetech flex fit runners will fit any quick release holders”. Hence why that was in quotes. No mention of two separate versions. But, yes, there is in fact a separate version for the True skates. Which I purchased. And if anyone cares to know, I don’t feel like they flex up into the holders like the Bauer version does. I’ve tried both & I can definitely tell how they work for the Bauer skates but not as much with the Trues. I wonder if Chris has any input on that front 🤔
Does the flexible front of the bladetech blade nullify the stiffness of the powerfly? I like that the powerfly won't have a puck or stick get stuck in the hole, but I do worry about them breaking if a shot hits the middle of the runner. Ordered some SVH skates unmounted. I don't like that the True holders dont match holes with the other brands. If you don't like the holder after mounting, you have hurt the structure of the boot some.
Yup…I got my True Customs in Feb 2020 and replaced the shift holder with Tuuk Lightspeed Edge holders for the quick swap and steel options at the time… But now 4 and a half years later I’m regretting that decision as the rivets on my right boot, big toe side are starting to come out…and the bottom of the Boot feels like I can compress it due to weakness from the holes of the shift holder. I think the Tuuks LS Edges are a great option IF you get the true custom SVH boots WITHOUT the True Shift/Shift Max holders. Just my experience…but I’m debating my next pair having the Shift max’s or Tuuk LS Edges again.
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial I've been following for probably like a decade now and its always stuck out to me kudos! ive always been so particular about my skates being the exact same even goes back to my skateboarding days where the trucks and bearings had to be the exact same lol
I've had both of my XS holders (original design with small dial) break right through the dial area of the holder. Since I am replacing them with the updated design I didn't change the holder as I didn't want to also update my steel. I'm a beer league weekend warrior and wish they offered an option without a quick change blade for improved durability.
OK, my new skates have Light Speed Edge holders. They are supposed to accept new and old blades - does this mean they have the non beveled feature, and the TIs will be sloppy?
I've been waiting for this, I have studied and worked with all the holders for years now across all skill levels. Bauer's is hands down the fastest and most convenient to use, but also the most likely to fail. CCM's is the least likely to fail, but does require more time and effort, especially if they're cold. True is kind of the worst of both combined. You need a tool and it's plastic based, which I have seen get soft. Admittedly I haven't seen one break, but I have seen them lead to some blade clicking or wobble.
I've noticed that a lot of NHLers who use CCM's and True's modify their skates to use Bauer's holders since it's easier to change the steel on the fly during a game.
Great video Chris! I have 2 quick questions: first is the powerfly holder any lighter than the LS Edge that they’re replacing? When I first saw the powerflys that’s what I thought they were made for but since it wasn’t touched upon in the video, I’m guessing that’s not the case. Secondly, how recently did bladetech surpass Step’s quality? Step was always the king of steel but now that their owned by CCM I was wondering if that’s changed. Thanks!
Brutally honest opinion, Bauer holders might not be the best but is it really important? bauer skates are by far the best skates for me as a player and for confort it is sensational.
I feel like a lot of CCM and True users in the NHL have their skates modified to use Bauer's TUUK Lightspeed Edge, since it's quicker and easier for equipment personnel to change their steel on the fly using the TUUK.
Honestly, most beer leaguers shouldn’t allow these variables into their play. Don’t be/get mental. Just play. I’ve played enough USTA tennis, the tennis equivalent of a hockey beer league, and watched a guy hit a bad shot, run to his bag, pick a 2nd racket, and hit another bad shot. Just play. If you care about these holders, look at the MTBF (mean time before failure) and ease of use. I had the older Bauer trigger version and after one defensive blocked shot the spring came undone and it broke.
Can u guys please do a review on the new warrior super novium, I’ve heard a lot about it and I really enjoy your reviews, also maybe a video on the ft ghost vs the trigger 8 pro?? Keep it up guys stick vids are amazing
CCM 100% has the best blade lock, nothing is better then the mechanical lock with the dial doesn’t rely on springs or tension just detents and a screw far better then the true and infinitely better then bauer, how many CCM blades have popped out in the NHL vs bauer, side not I’ve never seen a true pop out either but would still prefer the mechanical action of the CCM, there’s no way it can just pop out with out completely breaking.
I have the true svh made in Dec 2023, 20 hours on ice per week. Not one of the rivets had given up. It is so important to allow the skates to dry from the inside. Let them dry without the footbed.
Well, ccm is the worst for making straight holders, I worked in a hockey store and their holders where crooked 75% of the time, we had to bend the blade in lol
I don't care which holder anyone uses! The glaring & baffling spot for me is why in the world is there not some kind of edge or pick (toe pick) that would emerge when the blade ejects on the ice. I know nobody will send me a plug nickel for the idea but when you become completely wothless and you can't stand up and get to the bench, the benefit of changeable blades is negligeable. This to me seems ridiculous!
I think that’s a brilliant idea. People are SO OBSESSED with weight nowadays though anything you add people will bitch. Having something engage when the blade pops out Is an amazing idea. If you watch Gabe Landeskog in the final minute of the Stanley cup he loses a blade which is probably the most inopportune time ever. I’m sure he’d be in favor of it.
I feel like the new Bauer holder is very vulnerable to being knocked out by a stick or skate... given how often these blades pop out in games, I'm surprised that they went in this direction to be honest. I wouldn't try to pick those up until at least a few years when they iron out the kinks.

For what holder, does this not hold true??
@@DavidTsung as it says in the comment. The new Bauer one on the hyper2lites. Apparently the centre bar making the two compartments is fragile
@@Blobber.t Yeah, your phrasing was not the best. I understand what you are saying now.
The answer is none of these it’s the tuuk
Tuuk holsters snap and bend, I've snapped/bent 5 different Bauer skates with these inferior holsters

may i know why are you not using your SVH but your cat 9 ? i am interested getting a cat 9 also
The new Bauer holder is just pretty much the Mission holder from over 20 years ago with a QR system.
So Bladetech steel is superior to Step Blacksteel? Factually, that is an incorrect statement.
They are sponsored by Blade Tech. Blade Tech make a great blade. But Step Steel is still the best blade on the market.
Yep, Step Steel is the best despite the clear bias.
Do the holes for the Bauer and True holder match up? Or would I have to drill new holes if I wanted to put Bauer holders on True skates?
Drilling is required

Agree even with a tool it's a pain in the ass. Would love to buy another set of steel but imagine the hassle of the changing it isn't worth it.
