  • One of the opticians at Glasses Direct explains how to adjust the arms on a pair of glasses.
    It's no mystery.
    Opticians in store use these exact methods, with a smaller version of a hair dryer which blows hot air onto the arms.
    Steps involved:
    1) Put them on, and mark on your glasses where you'd like the bend to start
    2) Take them off and heat up the side where you wish to make the bend for about 20-30 seconds
    3) Bend the glasses straight
    4) Reheat the arms again for another 20 or so seconds
    5) Bend the arm around your thumb to make it smooth
    6) Try them on again and see if they feel better, if not, try again until you're happy.
    Please leave any questions in the comments section and we'll try and answer either here, or in another video

    Wow thank you so much! You sir just made me the happiest person! ❤ I have small hands and barely any strength and I was able to do it effortlessly!
    Be confident, apply this trick and you too can fix your frame!

      I want to try this but I'm afraid the plastic on the tip of the temple will break, is this method safe?

    This is brilliant. I was just about to return a pair I love because the bend isnt right but now I will give this a try and hopefully get to keep them 🥰

    I like it straight like aviator frames. I have told optician but he keeps forgetting and gets so busy when I pickup I need to do it myself. I have to be careful because I have broken them. At some opitical places I have noticed the put the eyepiece temple in a small container of heated sand for a half a minute and then bend them carefully.

    the sides and arms are called temples . and its best that you go to your local optometry and they can adjust them for free for you .

    I hate when they're behind my ears. It rubs on my ears and hurts. I bend them to where they're hugging my scalp and move the temple arms closer together.

    Would it still work if there is metal inside that plastic part?

    • @parkerbohnn
      @parkerbohnn 2 года назад +1

      No you have to put the glasses under cold water then put them over a red hot jet on the stove for about a minute to get them hot enough to bend. A hairdryer will never get glasses hot enough to bend. This video should be pulled from youtube as its impossible to get glasses hot enough with a hair dryer.

      I can’t help but to reply to your comment, seeing that you are giving false information. As a long time collector of eyeglasses and sunglasses, vintage specifically, I can testify that using a hair dryer works more than fine for adjusting either part of your frames. Most plastic frames nowadays have a metal rod inside for sturdiness. In fact, that metal rod makes it harder to break the frame. If I’ve been able to adjust over a 100 pairs of frames, some being over 50 years old with a hair dryer, then anyone can do it.

      No it didn't as a hairdryer will never get glasses hot enough to bend.

    Dear Glasses Direct,
    I have a problem, one of my glasses' temples are too narrow while the other one is fitting perfectly. Basically, the narrow temple feels like it hugs the back of my ears so tight it doesn't feel very comfortable at all. Also, one temple that is too narrow is very straight. Can you give me a help out of it?
    P.S: It's a metal frame

    Is it plastic that you heated or is it metal. Because mine is plastic on the tip of the temple, I'm still new to glasses so I wanted to try this tutorial but I'm afraid the plastic will break 😅

    Sides are much too long and as multikeith says you need to remove the tips and cut the sides using appropriate cutting tool and then replace the tips.
    Why don't people just go to the optometrist, buy the glasses from there and they will do all necessary adjustments for you!!!!

    • @sirlawrencet
      @sirlawrencet 4 года назад

      I don't buy glasses from optometrists because my head is large and if I'm lucky an optometrist will have one pair that fits me.
