One of your best videos showcasing a great .22 rifle. I have a couple of BRNO #1 rifles and with a 4~12X scope, not much larger than your 4X, they will shoot one hole groups at 50 yards. Even better, one of them doesn't shift POI from cold bore to the following shots; all go to the same place. Now a couple of corrections to your comments. BRNO was just BRNO when that rifle was made; not CZ-BRNO. CZ didn't come until much later. The barrel on your rifle is 22 3/4 inches long and the "express" flip up sights are in meters, not yards. The rifles are also regulated for standard velocity cartridges. The BRNO .22 rifles like yours and earlier models that look like yours are wonderful small game hunting rifles and the one you have is beautiful. They also have one of the slickest actions ever made for a .22LR firearm.
Wow Eli, that blew me away at how accurate you were with that ole #5 with a 4x scope!!! Why would anyone want a newer 457 when you have an old CZ that shoots that good. Great video as always, and we surely appreciate what you do, brother.
Q Beautiful! My first Brno was a basket case #5 I picked up at a gun show in Ohio nearly 40 years ago for $25.00! Busted stock, missing the butt plate, no mag, missing the rear site and front bead. Even had a "rung" barrel around 8" from the muzzle. Back then it was still Eastern Block and could not get any kind of parts here in the States. Got ahold of a company called PragoTrade outside of Toronto Canada and they sent me a magazine, front site insert and rear site. Took the old stock, fixed all the cracks(nearly in two) and gobbled in AccraGlass where there simply was no wood! Ordered a set of Brno rings from them and went to see just how it would shoot. Man, it shot, and still shoots like it has eyes, even with it being rung. You'd never know it! Started a lifetime love of Brno. Added a couple #1's, a #2 and eventually a #4. They're all top drawer shooters, but that #5 is probably the best of them all. It's one of those "you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands" kinda deals. Eventually restocked it myself in a nice, fancy grade of Claro walnut keeping approximately the same proportions. Untold numbers of cotton tails, Grey and fox squirrels, as well as pretty much any other game fit for .22 long rifle. Fox, crow, coon white tail jack rabbits, grouse...pretty much endless. If it's legal, it's taken it! Mines a 58, so one year younger than me. Initially, I mounted an old 2.5X Weaver and that was nice, but eventually I sprung for a 4X Leupold, like in your video, that's good, too! Be very careful, or you'll get the bug and start collecting them, too. There's just no comparison, quality wise, between a real, authentic Brno and a CZ!
Kiwi's pronounce it Bruno. I have a 30 year old one and a CZ 452. Love them both. I was agast when I saw you had an even older one. Well done. Keep'em coming please. 😃
@@beeboop1726 In Aus as well (and in South Africa). I have a Czech friend who also pronounces it basically Bruno or Brew-no, with a slight slavic overtone, but I can't capture that.
Beautiful rifle! Lucky you as it looks very original apart from the trigger. It's either aftermarket or out of one of the last CZ 455's or 452's. You can tell by the trigger blade being set back in the trigger guard compared to other BRNO rifles of that era. I've had some old Brno's and they're amazing, especially models up until the last of the 452's. When they went to the 455 and 457 they did away with the second bolt locking lug. I really think that the last of the 452's including anniversary and farewell editions were the most accurate rifles Brno/CZ ever made because the barrels were either fully floated or very easy to do so. The sporter model 1's, 5's, early model 2's etc., had a takedown screw into the barrel that really held a lot of them back. Great review Mr Revolver Guy and congrats on the beautiful rifle 😃
I’ve got the .22LR Brno. Mod 2 trainer (manufactured in 1988) , 23inch barrel . It had an old tasco x4 scope fitted to it when I purchased it, anyways I swapped the Scope out for a Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 , unfortunately I had to remove the rear sight as using high scope rings would require me to fit a cheek piece /pad . I bedded the action & installed a 1 pound trigger spring . I’m currently getting sub minute of angle @ 100yards with SK standard plus ! Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
Am waiting to pick up a CZ457 .22lr varmint and have an old BRNO (BRUNO) in .222 with double set triggers ive had for over 30 years and taken plenty of hogs. Is a beautiful rifle...
I just picked up a early BRNO #5, #1 as stamped on the bbl and a #2 action. Sights are as per you #5. Mine has a Walnut stock and is 1957 vintage. Awesome rifle.
Transfixed on the rifle and the name as I was before. This time I want to add that the accuracy with a 4 power scope was outstanding!!! My older Brno has nicer wood and a ramp adjustable military sight which I removed and have a 6-24x40 scope and on the CZ 452 American I have a Leopold 6-20 x40 with target turrets. Today I returned from a frosty morn shooting a Martini and clocked a 147 gr FMG at 2578 fps. I was a Martini Henry converted to a Martini Enfield and again to a .308 W - working up slowly.
Hi there - Leupold (used to) make a rimfire 2-7x28 scope that looks almost exactly like that one - if you want a bit more power. BTW, I am friendly with a Czech person and he pronounces Brno as something very like "Brew-no" (all one word). He also uses it for the rifles. I am in Australia, and there are still plenty of Model1, Model2 and Model5 working for their living every day. Model3 and Model4 are tougher to come by. Good luck with that old relic (I have one as well).
I have a 452 Super Match with an old 1960s Weaver 1-4.5 wide view scope-it’s basically this setup. For a field/hunting rifle, it’s about as good as it gets. It’ll shoot 1/2” consistently at 50 yards if I let it. I snagged mine for under $300 just before they stopped making them.
That is on classic rifle in great shape and I think the Leup 4X RF scope makes a classy combo. Only think I'd change are the mounts. I find the steel Millet Angle Locks to get smaller ocular bell scopes down low on the CZs but still clear of the bolt handle. Add a shooting sling for shooting from field positions and you have what that little rifle/scope were made for. For giggles, on a still day give CCI Blazers or Federal 510B a try. Those CZs seem to shoot most high speed ammo like target ammo, unlike most rimfires. Better yet, take that rifle/scope into the squirrel woods for a sporty and tasty reward. Be careful, those CZ rimfires are addictive!
Eli, I found your channel and have been watching your videos since and enjoy what you do. I do have a question, how or can I participate in you 22lr challenges? By the way I really like your Volquartsens.
I have the 452 Lux model similar to the gun in the video, I did some trigger work on it but other than that bone stock. As sporting 22 cal rifles go the CZ 452 Lux will shoot and stay with most high end sporters. I have a 455 Mannlicher that lays them in there pretty good. As for the 457 it is a nice shooting rifle by all accounts but the styling does not do anything for me. One of the best scopes that has it all in a compact size with some power was the now discontinued Burris Compact Timberline, if you can find one at a reasonable price it is well worth buying.
That is some superb shooting, especially when compared with dedicated target rifles and all their accoutrements. Who needs a Winnie 53 or Remington 40X, when you have a BRNO?
That's a great-looking and great shooting rifle, Sir, especially for such a small-diameter barrel! It would make a fine squirrel hunting rifle. A Meopta scope would make a great companion for that rifle and is from the same country.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEO showing EVERYONE who never heard of BRNO to show them that a 60-70 year old "22 LR BEAUTIFUL HUNTING RIFLE" can put A LOT of NEWER MORE EXPENSIVE TARGET RIFLES TO SHAME OR CAN KEEP UP WITH THEM!!!!!!😉😁👍 YEARS AGO I had a BRNO #1 that I'm mad at myself for selling it, beautiful rifle and slickest action!!! Then later I picked up on a BRNO #2 from 1972 that WAS VERY NICE (unfortunately it was one of the CASUALTIES from a FIRE in my BEDROOM).😲😢😮💨 I HOPE I CAN RESURRECT IT LATER!!🤔🤨🙏😁😉👍 I also have a VERY INTERESTING VARIATION of your BRNO, IT'S A COPY made in the UAR (United Arab Republic) as a trainer!! It's kinda RARE because it was only called the UAR for 3 years!!!!! But unfortunately it was MOLESTED A LITTLE BIT, tangent sight was removed and about 3"-4" was removed from the barrel which I guess made it a little more HANDY!! The barrel was NOT SQUARED OFF properly, which I fixed and recrowned the end!!😁😉👍 It's a shooter, for sure!! The #1 BRNO I SOLD earlier later I found out it was VERY RARE because it had (tgf) marked on the receiver where the CZ logo would have been. I've read something about it may have had some parts from the OLD BRNO PLANT from the end of WWII. 😲😳😵💫😮💨😢 SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE SAME OR SIMILAR INFORMATION ON THE (tgf) marking. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PROMOTING THE 2nd AMENDMENT, WE NEED IT BECAUSE IF WE DON'T "FIGHT FOR IT" WE WILL LOOSE IT FOREVER WHICH WOULD BE "TERRIBLE" IN SO MANY WAYS. This is coming from a PROUD SON OF A WWII VETERAN OF THE ATLANTIC THEATER-8 CAMPAIGNS (8/41-8/45). "HE RUBBED ELBOWS WITH THE "RED TAILS" while he was in Italy!!!! He HEARD "GENERAL PATTON" before he saw him, CHEWING OUT A MAJOR of the ENGINEERS because the temporary pontoon bridge wasn't FINISHED YET!!!!😲😉👍😁😂🤣
Great shooting that' rifle is definitely a keeper The Brno was my first 22 some 30 years ago think the scope I had was a Simmons white tail classic 4 to 12 x 50 if I remember correctly
Good video. Believe it or not I used to see lots of CZ Trainers in gun shops and gun shows when I was buying Mauser 98 surplus rifles for the actions. I don't know if there were any Model fives I almost bought one I didn't realize these long barreled 22's were such good shooters. Now you hardly see them anymore I am fortunate to have a 452 22 Magnum and a 455 17 HMR I bought before they were discontinued. I should have bought a 452 Varmint 22 Long Rifle when they were still available. James Wayne Firearms had them listed for years on Guns International that's where I got my 455. I still like to shoot my old 513 with just Standard Velocity CCI lots of fun hitting push pins at fifty yards. Leupold makes some 3x9 rimfire scopes but they don't have the period look you are after or maybe they do I have a 3x9 EFR Leupold but they don't make them anymore I had two and like a dummy sold one.
CZ and the older BRNO rifles have always been considered a working mans rifle. They have always been competitively priced, rugged reliable rifles. Did you guys get the older ZKM 600 and 601s centerfire rifles imported into the States back in the 1970s 80s and 90s? They were great sporter/hunting weight rifles.
My son has a 1974 Mod 5 in as near as new,in the 30#00 number range, has been hiding in the safe for years, gotta get it out and run some rounds through it.and I have a 1967 Mod 2 which shoots a storm with SK Pistol Match Special. aside, the Brno mag will also fit the Lithgow 101 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃use a couple of drops of ATF on the bolt 👍
Have a question for you. I have had a Winchester 22LR Model 69 in my garage for a couple years. It was missing the bolt and magazine so I it wasn't in my vault. Yesterday while I was getting ready for a garage sale I came across a box of old gun stuff no guns just stuff and in a small paper bag was the bolt and several mags. The gun is now complete and needs a rugged cleaning before we can shoot it. Here's my question, do you know anything about this rifle or have you had any experience with this model?
You've got yourself a awesome rifle ! To your question BRNO Model 5 or CZ 457, for me there's no place for debates.I have one of each, and the craftsmanship and quality on Model 5 is on different level. 457 is just a Meh rifle.
My CZ ZKM 452 Model 2 E 22 Lr not sure if these great rifles were imported into the United States back in the 1980s and 90s) that I bought new in here in Sydney Australia 1990 once shot every round of a box CCI Standard ammunition into a .2 inch 5 shot groups . I have never since come across any other box of CCI Standard 40gr lead ammunition that came anywhere near that level of accuracy. If only I could have bought 1000 rounds of that particular lot of ammunition🙁.
WOW! NIce buy MRG ! That thing is a hammer! As far as scopes go , I have a Leupold vxII 6x18x40 on my Sako p94s. I find the proportion very nice for the sporter rifle . Of course Leupold doesn’t make them anymore, but they may make something similar .
@@Dayattherange I lucked out and got it from a fellow on rfc . I can’t wait to see how the Brno shoots with some more magnification . Those are very very special . I like your thoughts on keeping the rifle “correct”. There is joy in history of fine firearms. Those groups were insanely good for only 4x . I’ll bet that thing will hang with wookie !
Dang that is a sweet rifle! The bolt seems so smooth! Is that a factory trigger? What’s the pull weight? Dang it man, now you are making me want one now! Lol! 😂
Oh my goodness this thing is sooo smooth. I was so excited I did not take the trigger reading I will though and post back. It is factory and I would say better than my 455 trigger was out of the box.
I’d leave that rifle just as it is. You could get a more modern, larger, higher-power scope for it, but why? It’s very nice just as it is. Don’t mess with it!
Please.. it’s pronounced Bruno . I have a mint Model One made in ‘47. 3/8” groups with the right ammo and 4x scope. Glass bed the barrel / forend screw and polished the trigger sear and put in a lighter trigger spring. It’s neck and neck for accuracy with my Kimber 22 custom classic.
It's actually not a B-R-N-O model. It's a BRNO (pronounced BUR-noh) It's a city in Czechia (formerly Czech Republic, formerly Czechoslovakia) "CZ", at the time, stood for ‘Česká zbrojovka’. "Czech Armory" (factory) and BRNO is the name of the city where the factory is located. You will also find firearms marked "Praga" or "Praha" (Prague) "Opava" and many more. Sometimes the letters of the designers name are included, such as the ZH 26. The "H" being for "Holek". The Holek brothers were the "John Browings" of Czechoslovakia. Some will be marked "VZ" (vzor) which means "model" The marking "CZ" more often was applied to firearms that had been adopted by the military, but after WW2 it was applied to many firearms made by the CZ "group". Incidentally, the Model 4 was adopted by the military as a training rifle as well as being popular for civilian ownership. Shooting and hunting are very popular in Czechia and their gun laws are perhaps the most "gun friendly" in Europe. I own a BRNO O/U shotgun and O/U rifle in 9.3x74R and an Opava "Ferdinand" (the model named after Archduke Ferdinand, the man who's assassination sparked WW1) The two BRNOs, which are post-WW2, pre-1989 manufacture have the "CZ" marking. The Opava, which is a pre-WW2 manufactured shotgun does not have the CZ marking. They are all top quality, comparable to any English or Italian comparable arms. I purchased them in Czech Republic for a fraction of what similar English or Italian guns would cost and a fraction of what they would cost here. Even after shipping and import duties. The "new" CZ, the maker of the CZ 457 is, more or less, a conglomeration of the armories. Speaking of conglomerations, CZ and the others were part of the Skoda conglomeration. Best known for their automobiles in Europe, but were, at one time the Czech equivalent of something like the USA's "GE". If you ever get to Czechia (get there SOON, sleep when you come home!) be sure to check out some gun shops. You will be amazed! The better gun shops will work with you to bring any firearm you purchase to the USA and handle the arrangements to ship it to an FFL who can accept an import. They make GREAT firearms!
Best 22 rifle is the Brno zkk 452 With 630 barrel lenght. Best big game hunting rifles, all Brno zkk 600/601/602 series. Brno rifles are superior to CZ because they barrels were manufactured with Poldi Steel. When Brno went broke the CZ facility continued with the CZ 550 line, excelent rifles but not as incredible Brno were. Also Rigby used CZ 550 actions to build their rifles. If you have a Brno you do not need anything else for hunting.
@@richardmattix5322 Thank you. The scope was put on with a scope level. Are you saying that because of the view thru the scope? If so the rifle was not quite straight up and down.
@@Dayattherange I'm hearin ya, but even the standard models are incredible. My bro has an old left hand 1416 that is crazy accurate. I had to have me one so I bought a new 1710 before the price became prohibitive. Anschutz prices are spiraling out of control.

There were some imports but they are rare
Great rifle, had one eons ago.
It was the poor man’s Anchutz.
Great find, enjoy.
what do you mean had one please tell me you didn't get rid of it 😁😁
Are you sure about the 16" barrel? Looks at least 22" to me. Another interesting video - thanks :)
Cam with the original 22in barrel -- Just a happy screw up on my part 🤣🤣
Excellent groups you need to try SK long-range. 22 ammo . My BRNO 5 really loves them .
As soon as I can find some I will. Thank you for the tip.
I just joined your channel. From one war horse to another 👍👍👍👍👌
Thank you for joining hope you enjoy -- Oooh-Rah
She can Hunt Brother 😊 old school Guns Rule 💪🏽👍🏽😎
There is just something about the older Legends that just attracts me.
My son has a 1974 Mod 5 in as near as new,in the 30#00 number range, has been hiding in the safe for years, gotta get it out and run some rounds through it.and I have a 1967 Mod 2 which shoots a storm with SK Pistol Match Special. aside, the Brno mag will also fit the Lithgow 101 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃use a couple of drops of ATF on the bolt 👍
can I ask you a question, are model 69A of winchester and the model 75 Sporter also of winchester have the same trigger assembly?
Check out the Burris mini scopes with adjustable objective
Have a question for you. I have had a Winchester 22LR Model 69 in my garage for a couple years. It was missing the bolt and magazine so I it wasn't in my vault. Yesterday while I was getting ready for a garage sale I came across a box of old gun stuff no guns just stuff and in a small paper bag was the bolt and several mags. The gun is now complete and needs a rugged cleaning before we can shoot it. Here's my question, do you know anything about this rifle or have you had any experience with this model?
Very nice grouping
Did you say it had a 16 inch barrel? Looks longer to me, Buddy.
Mistake it is 22in in the description
You've got yourself a awesome rifle !
To your question BRNO Model 5 or CZ 457, for me there's no place for debates.I have one of each, and the craftsmanship and quality on Model 5 is on different level. 457 is just a Meh rifle.
I just need more scope hehehehhehe this little rifle is awesome.
I've got the brno 22.fab rifle
My CZ ZKM 452 Model 2 E 22 Lr not sure if these great rifles were imported into the United States back in the 1980s and 90s) that I bought new in here in Sydney Australia 1990 once shot every round of a box CCI Standard ammunition into a .2 inch 5 shot groups . I have never since come across any other box of CCI Standard 40gr lead ammunition that came anywhere near that level of accuracy. If only I could have bought 1000 rounds of that particular lot of ammunition🙁.
I know what you mean CCI SV has not been consistent for me in anything for a long time.
WOW! NIce buy MRG ! That thing is a hammer! As far as scopes go , I have a Leupold vxII 6x18x40 on my Sako p94s. I find the proportion very nice for the sporter rifle . Of course Leupold doesn’t make them anymore, but they may make something similar .
Oh my you have a sako 94 nice.
@@Dayattherange Dang that’s so nice and the stock is gorgeous!! It is definitely more beautiful than my 457! Wanna trade?? 😂🤣😂🤣
@@Dayattherange waiting … Enquiring minds want to know 😂
Muy buen fucil yo tuve uno igual muy buenos saludos desde honduras
Tenías este rifle, ¿por qué te deshiciste de él? Odio saber que te deshiciste de él.
I’d leave that rifle just as it is. You could get a more modern, larger, higher-power scope for it, but why? It’s very nice just as it is. Don’t mess with it!
I was looking for a more period correct scope meaning an older one. A 10power Weaver has been recommended not sure though as it may stay 😁😁
@@Dayattherange Ah, I see. Well, in any case, I like your rifle and enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work, my friend.
@@JEbert-ez2wb Thanks JE
Cool
Try a Pecar Berlin 3x7 variable
Please.. it’s pronounced Bruno . I have a mint Model One made in ‘47. 3/8” groups with the right ammo and 4x scope. Glass bed the barrel / forend screw and polished the trigger sear and put in a lighter trigger spring. It’s neck and neck for accuracy with my Kimber 22 custom classic.
Old Leupold benchrest straight 24 or 36!
Some will be marked "VZ" (vzor) which means "model"
The marking "CZ" more often was applied to firearms that had been adopted by the military, but after WW2 it was applied to many firearms made by the CZ "group".
A good quality fixed 6 power scope is perfect for this old rifle for plinking and hunting small game the size of rabbits 🐇 and squirrels 🐿.
A weaver T. Series I got 1of the old T-16 it still good as a new 1
Thanks Jeff those are pretty long i wonder if it would fit over the rear sight.
@@Dayattherange yeah I had it ona 455 trainer with high cz rings, I have a 6x20 Burris on it now
I put the rings on my Jaguar with a 24x scope still got the sights on it
@@jeffhamby74 cool thank you
Nice rifle.
Thanks Donnie I am digging it
Best 22 rifle is the Brno zkk 452
With 630 barrel lenght.
Love my Bruno, cost me £25 with a scope a bipod a strap.
Brno 2E about the same age and configuration shoot 1/4 groups at 50 no sweat.
I think you're stringing vertically
Your scope needs to be rotated slightly counter clockwise.
Looking good man
@@richardmattix5322 Thank you. The scope was put on with a scope level. Are you saying that because of the view thru the scope? If so the rifle was not quite straight up and down.
I think you got the length of the barrel a little off.
Time to try an Anschutz 1761 APR👍
I do love the one in the MDT XRS Chassis but man do they seem rare North America doesn't even have them listed on their website.
Nah, Anschutz 1710 DKL's are much nicer with the Match 54 Action really letting the accuracy of the Annie Barrels shine.
@@audieladd2476 Oh man I hope to one day have enough cash to be able to afford a master series grade.
@@Dayattherange I'm hearin ya, but even the standard models are incredible. My bro has an old left hand 1416 that is crazy accurate. I had to have me one so I bought a new 1710 before the price became prohibitive. Anschutz prices are spiraling out of control.
Super impressive groups for hardly being able to see the targets
Thank you
I have a model 3 🙂
You get higher power scope you will really like shooting it at 100yds
I bet I would!!!! I need to find something that will work without having to remove the rear sight.
There remaid in turkey now under 200.00
Why shoot a low power scope when you are trying groups?
Pretty easy Dennis I didn't have anything else LOL not to mention I would like to get a period correct vintage scope to go on it.
Absolutely a unertal USMC scope your not really making the gun shine with that small powered scope thxs enjoy your videos.
B.R.N and O its Brrrrno.
Hilux remake of unertal better than original because they have coated lenses
A weaver 10x
Tikka
You better hold on to your seat you may just see a Tikka in 7minutes LOL.
Its pronounced bruno
Directly from Czech Republic The Brno brand is not spoken “Bruno,” as most refer to it, but correctly referred to as “Berno.”
Pronounced…. BRUNO. Brno.
Rod I think today it depends but I will tell you DIRECTLY from someone who worked in the factory who is no longer with us unfortunately, it was pronounced by all the workers BURNO
I got lucky to get one of the old cz “super Brno 2500” mines number 0311. Oorah. Semper fi
Oorah Devil Dog -- I have only seen those in my dreams and please tell me you are joking when you say it is number 0311 grunt.
