    I have a property in Zone 9B/10A Central Florida and have really been wanting to try a lychee tree but I had heard they need zero frost. It's encouraging that you have one and say it can take all the way down to about 26F! How are these trees today? Still kicking strong? You may have just motivated me to plant one this spring.

    Thank you for the video! I came from your Best Organic Fertilizer. I am trying to revive my dying air layered lychee...I wish you had a video of how to grow lychee, longan and sugar apple, as these are not as popular as citrus and others in the US :/

    10 years ago, I was in Guangzhou ( next to HongKong) China, I went to a local Lichee farm where their Lichee trees and Longan trees were waist wide full of juicy delicious lichee fruits. Since then I loved lichee. I'd like to plant my own lichee trees. But I don't know if Orlando area can grow it? I also would like to have Chinese the best one to plant. I don't know if I am allowed to bring Chinese lichee trees back to Orlando?

      Mama T, that is unfortunate, the canned ones usually have syrup in them so they are artificially sweetened. If you ever go to a large metropolitan area with a large oriental market, they are sure to have them. They used to be rare, but they grow them now in Florida and California and they ship very well.

    How tall is the tree you picked that particular fruit from? To my understanding it takes at minimum 5 years to fruit but, I have found difficulties finding when they meet the feet of 20 to 40 feet. At what feet is the tree able to fruit? Understanding how the amount of rain and humidity varies this result; your mentioning of how the lychee likes 40° in winter, furthers my confusion.

      Hey Bonnie! Potentially. It depends on your species of bamboo and how aggressive the roots are. I’ve found certain species can really dry and area out.

    Just discovered a Lychee tree down the street from my house! Very exciting! Also, after watching your video on Spiral Ginger I recognized it growing down by my child's bus stop! So thanks for sharing! Trying to start some Lychee seeds but no success yet. I read it can take a hefty amount of years before they fruit. But I don't mind. We need all the trees we can get! The Lychee tree is simply beautiful with its hanging red fruits! Like bulbs on a Christmas tree! I'm rambling. Do you have any tips on growing from seed? Thanks again!

    Lychee, rhombuton , longans and pulasans are delicious. But it can't get them to germinate here in the Caribbean. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've tried growing from fruit it get at the market. I don't know if they are eradicated or not , but they never sprout. Unfortunately I get bring plants in only seeds.

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL

      Rice Panday lots of damage but most everything will recover fine. Some trees are currently dropping leaves and banana production might be a little slower this year.

      I think everybody is different. For me I can only handle so much because of the high sugar content. After a pound or so I start to get lightheaded.

    Hello great video. I wanted to know how these plants would do in the Caribbean? Also you mentioned varieties which ones would you recommend for the Caribbean (Haiti specifically ). Also which variety has the small seeds that you mentioned in the video. Thank you.

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  7 лет назад

      Haitian Farmers hello do y'all get cool nights in the winter? Lychee do require a certain amount of chill hours below 68 degrees to fruit properly. They didn't fruit well in homestead last year due to the mild winters.

    • @haitianfarmers8025
      @haitianfarmers8025 7 лет назад

      Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL thank you for
      Your replay and yes in the higher areas we do get chill hours below 68 degrees. If i wanted to purchase some plants (various varieties ) wholesale where would you recommend I get them for the best price ? Florida ? China ? Anywhere else ?

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  7 лет назад

      Haitian Farmers yes there are many wholesalers in Florida that sell these trees. There's 4 commonly available varieties.

      If you live along the West coast or Florida or where you have a large oriental market that sells fruits, you will find them. They are fairly easy to ship like Pete said, because they usually keep the stem on them to let them last a lot longer. I love to chill them and eat them cold, awesome!!

    I was told about your channel from the shamus cult 😂. My parents got a dozen or so lychee trees they planted by seed 8-10 years ago. They’ve never been watered , fertilized or mulched. To date, they’ve never flowered! In the last month I’ve fertilized, watered and mulched around the trees. I did a soil test that read nitrogen is low at a 1% (optimal 21-47), ph is 6.7, phosphorus is reading high at 22.54. (Optimal is 8-20) Calcium is super high 360 (80-320)and magnesium is super high at 109 (29-70)…. The nutrients are low. It’s suggesting to use 12-0-0 (organic) and 0-0-22
    I realize the lychee won’t flower/fruit this year as Iam just tryin to help for the following years…..thanks🇺🇸 I’m in Florida

    One of my favourite fruit.However I would not consider it as a tropical fruit .A subtropical fruit imho and where I am at in the equator the litchi would not set fruits and flower

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  7 лет назад

      Martin Banks mine too! You're correct Lychee needs a certain amount of chill hours below 68 degrees. That's something they don't get in the tropics for proper fruit production.

    • @martinbanks7194
      @martinbanks7194 7 лет назад

      Fortunately we can grow longans here.some varieties of longan can be grown in the tropics as some of the longans brought from china to thailand centuries ago for some reason adapted and mutated.however this varieties of longan can only be propagated by grafting and marcotting as the seeds doesnt come true to its parent.
