Good video on the universal cruising couple issue. I can't tell you haw many times it's been: Me on the bow, engine running: (say something) Wife on the stern on the helm: (whaaaatttt?) Me: (Shout something) Wife: (Don't shout at me) hahaha
I don't care what I'm intending to do on the computer, as soon as I see your next episode is there, everything else is forgotten. Such a perfectly natural couple, it's a pleasure to ride along with you, and it's always interesting, as well as relaxing, makes me wish I was enjoying narrow boating, still. But age forbids it, so it is great to join you every week from the comfort of my armchair. Thank you.
Hi Desmond, wow what a lovely lovely comment you are so kind. It's a pleasure to be able to bring our travels into your home each week. We've a little mid week bonus episode coming this Wednesday, hope you enjoy it. Take care. Jackie & Michael x
Another good vlog by you two. Maybe think about reversing the fridge door to make access easier from inside the boat. +1 with the walkie talkies, we use them too, was invaluable on the Llangollen canal with long narrow sections.❤
Hi Brian thanks 🙏 for taking the time to comment we love reading them all. Sadly we can’t change the fridge door around as the step would be in the way. Michael leaves it to me to pack and unpack the fridge as I always manage to fit so much in them very small space 😂😂. Ah yes we remember the Llangollen there were so many narrow sections a bit like the K&A. 💕
You could always get a set of hand-flags. Use semaphore. Michael was in the Royal Navy so he may be familiar with semaphore. Works well in any weather but fog.
Another couple of perfect days on the cut I'd say bringing back many great memories as we were frequent travellers on this canal. Stone is a fine town with several useful shops. Yes to the walkie talkies from me as well. Used them for many years as well as a couple of hand signals ! Thank you again for all of this! J.
Hi John, yes beautiful canal isn't it. Great comment, thank you. We sometimes still use the odd hand signal as a double check when in locks. It works for us. x
We had walkie talkies on a building site l once worked on .... some interesting conversations were had , l can tell you 😂😂😂.... Great video Michael and Jackie and breath taking scenery 👌
Just a comment on fuel filters, most come with plastic drain plugs in the bottom which need to be replaced with metal ones to make sure that they are compliant for the BSS examination
Whoever manufactured your walkie-talkies owes you 💰. You could have just told us that you were doing an infomercial. 😂😂😂😂 The “weather stars” are spinning in your favour. Beautiful scenery and yes it was worth going to the bow to get a good look at that centuries old bridge. Superb. Walkie-talkies or no walkie-talkies we can easily tell that the both of you “grew up” together through the years. You can’t fake that. That’s what draws people to you. Family. Hugs and kisses 😘 Canada’s Eastern Seaboard 🇨🇦
Hi Canada. Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you enjoyed this episode, it wasn't a commercial/paid collaboration for the walkie talkies just us showing how they work for us with our lifestyle. That bridge was beautiful wasn't it, so pretty. Yes we have spent a lot of time with each other during our travelling lifestyle, so much fun. Keep watching lots more fun and games to come. xx
Sorry if this has been asked before. You have a cratch cover but no pram hood? When you have to cruise in the rain or harsh sunshine do you wish you had one. Both for protection from the weather and to give you a bit more covered living area when needed. I love watching your vlogs, entertaining and interesting. Thankyou
Hi. It’s a good point. We do not have a pram hood but wish we did have. I guess it’s down to expense at the end of the day. Maybe we’ll get one at some stage. 👍❤️
😊lol my 2 fav wessies ⭐ I noticed that you nearly had a marriage breakup 🤔 Michael pushing the lock with another woman 😮lol your marriage saver is the captain making the chicken tikka how many brownie points do you give him jaq ? Lol carnt beat a poke for dinner 🤔 God bless you both and keep on sailing all the best John 😊
Hi Jackie and Michael, always a pleasure to follow your adventures, in my days the responce to Cheers big Ears was Get lost Noddy............. great to catch up with you both,
Hello Jackie and Michael mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode hope you are both well and I will look forward to your next episode please keep them coming because I really enjoyed them xx😊😊😊
Should have had walkie talkies when my kids were little. It would have avoided, "WHY are you yelling at me!"...when I was trying to tell them something, and each failed attempt resulted in a higher volume repeat! Never thought of that!
I don’t own a narrowboat, but love your videos … the walki-talkies are a godsend when you have two people working together on a boat; but I had my first use of one in a car a few months ago. My car gave up the ghost on the A40 just outside Beaconsfield in Bucks .. when the clutch went .. managed to coast into a bus stop .. called RAC .. 7 & 1/2 hrs later they still hadn’t come … my son came & rescued me .. he towed me 19 miles back to Aylesbury; by using walki talkies he gave me braking instructions & we got back safely … so yes they are a life saver!
Wow what a great story David, hope you and the car are ok. It's scary being towed so we can understand how well they would work in that situation. Thanks so much for dropping us a comment. x
Great idea Jill, however we find it slightly dangerous to have something dangling around your neck when you are operating locks etc. Just don't want to catch them on the mechanism. Hope you enjoy our waterways adventures.
Hi again. Guess the phrase ‘marriage savers’ was a lighthearted term we used to try explain how useful they are. Hope you liked the video. Take care. 👍❤️
Hi Karen lovely comment, yes great moo hatch... it's a good job the big bull didn't swim over, it's probably shallow enough for them to do that!!! Argh....
Hello to you both what a lovely spot to tie up at that's the great thing with boats if you don't like the view just move to a better one loving the vlogs as always ❤❤
Hi Fiona. Lovely to hear from you and so pleased you enjoyed this weeks adventures. Hope your withdrawal symptoms are to too bad... Thanks for your lovely comment. J&M xx
It all looks lovely and your boat is so tidy inside. Just wondered if you ever feel worried when you are walking or running along the towpath on your own, and how long can you moor up for each time ?🤗
Hi Susannah thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. No I don't feel worried at all, often I will have my phone or the walkie talkie with me and even the windlass if going between locks (Little bit of security if needed eh!!) If there are no time restrictions we can stay in 1 location for up to 2 weeks, the only concern then would be water and toilet disposal. Hope that answers your questions x
Hi Richard, sorry to hear about your phone but so so pleased you found us again. Hope the weather is not too bad in Aberdeen today, hear you've had a big storm in Scotland this weekend... sending you our best wishes x
Hi Tony, yes you are totally right. Sometimes if the boat is down in a lock it's the only way to communicate and have a conversation has they water can be so so loud. Lovely to hear from you x
@@cruisingontheborder hi Michael and thank you , narrowboat do make me wonder how couples manage in such close quarters I'd imagine the first 6 months adjusting are the most difficult
We’d lived in France on a boat together for 3 years and for the past 13 yrs we’ve constantly travelled together in various ways so I guess we are used to coping with each other. You do need your own space though, which is why one of us tends to walk the towpath whilst the other skippers the boat. It’s not always easy though.. but we enjoy our life. ❤️👍
Gosh I can't tell the Captain off.... ha ha... I would have to walk the plank!!! CRT keep a schedule of lock maintenance required, sometimes they may need more regular maintenance depending upon the age of them. We have seen a number of locks where the lock gates have been replaced completely, a long and costly affair when they have to do it. Thanks for your comment.
Looked like a great journey, looking forward to seeing more ❤️❤️👍👍
More to come! Keep watching Nigel xx
MY 3RD - VID ON - CHRISTMAS DAY " -- THUMBS UP " 2023
We are going to have to send you a virtual chocolate biscuit for the most videos watched in 1 day!! Keep up the great comments x

Beautiful sunset. Add ice to a highball glass, 25ml of your favorite gin, 25ml of lemon juice and add white soda. Tom Collins!
Sounds great! Yummy.... will try x

You’re welcome 😊

I'll get him to teach me... let's hope it's not a foggy day when we try it. Ha ha
That is indeed a life saver as sjoe racing up n down ain't good your a very fit lady one needs to be
Yes I love it and it does keep me physically and mentally fit 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️

Fantastic video. Your humour is wonderful. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it! So pleased you get our humour and banter. Great comment thank you x
Those lock gates really need sorting out. Thank you for another interesting vlog.
Yes they do, so tricky. Thanks for your comment John.
A cup of coffee is always worth reduced revs.....All the best, Tricia and Neil....
Hi Trica and Neil you are so right, coffee is so important and a daily event on Border Reiver as you can see. All the best J&M x

Hello from me down in Torbay, loving your video and the tranquillity of the area you are cruising in. Such a joy to watch, thanks. :o)
Our pleasure! So pleased to have you onboard.x
Great episode! Such a beautiful area you’re in - and wonderful weather.
It really is! We thought it was so pretty too. Lots more beautiful scenery to come. Thanks for taking the time to message us. x

Your very welcome as always Michael x

Yes they are life savers, Michael and I don't have to yell at each other along the tow path now.

Radios are brilliant! Make so much sense. Seen many other boaters use them.
Hi Maggie thanks for your comment. Yes they are great. xx
Put the Walkie Talkies on lanyards so you can put them around your neck or over your shoulder
Great idea Jill, however we find it slightly dangerous to have something dangling around your neck when you are operating locks etc. Just don't want to catch them on the mechanism. Hope you enjoy our waterways adventures.
Never heard of a walkie talkie being a marriage saver before, 😂
Each to their own I suppose
Hi again.
Guess the phrase ‘marriage savers’ was a lighthearted term we used to try explain how useful they are. Hope you liked the video.
Take care. 👍❤️
Indeed
Excellent video, very beautiful boat, I greet you from Argentina.
Wow Argentina, how lovely to hear from you. It's wonderful to know our little waterways video's make it all the way around the world!! x
Of cause if your tight and want save some money you could always learn Semaphore😂 xx
What a great idea. The Captain should already know that with being in the navy!! x
Perfect🫡 wonder if they sell Semaphore flags 9n Ebay 🤔😆
Buy Michael a belt holster for the walkie-talkie. Buy one for yourself too, Jackie.
Hi Pat, great idea, we will look into them. Thanks for your suggestion. Jackie x
A moo hatch! Aren't you glad the cows didn't swim over!9
Hi Karen lovely comment, yes great moo hatch... it's a good job the big bull didn't swim over, it's probably shallow enough for them to do that!!! Argh....

We agree it was perfect! Thanks for the comment David, love it x
Thank you for your videos, they are always entertaining
Glad you like them! Lovely comment thanks for watching x
I have been waiting for your next video I get withdrawl symptoms now 😅 Another very enjoyable trip on the Canal thank you 😊
Hi Fiona. Lovely to hear from you and so pleased you enjoyed this weeks adventures. Hope your withdrawal symptoms are to too bad... Thanks for your lovely comment. J&M xx

Thank you very much for sharing Great video take care
Thanks, you too! Lovely to hear from you .xxx
Great video. Just one thing, don’t leave windlass on the winding gear. If it slips it can break your arm.
Thanks for the tip you are so right, it is amazing how quickly something can happen.
WOW! 10 layers of arches in that bridge. Whodathunk?
Pat it was stunning. We couldn't resist showing it on the video. x
Hi jakie & Mike I lost my old phone but subed again. Take care lots of love from aberdeen.xx❤❤
Hi Richard, sorry to hear about your phone but so so pleased you found us again. Hope the weather is not too bad in Aberdeen today, hear you've had a big storm in Scotland this weekend... sending you our best wishes x
Is it allowed to do extended stays when your not feeling moving for a bit ?
Did he forget his radio or did he 'forget'
Thanks for your comment. 👍❤️
Worth adding some Marine 16 to your fuel
Hi Les, yes we do that when we fill up, don't want that nasty diesel bug..... thanks for the tip.
I think wakie talkies are brilliant as l hate shouting and also you are more likely to get a reply 😂
Hi Tony, yes you are totally right. Sometimes if the boat is down in a lock it's the only way to communicate and have a conversation has they water can be so so loud. Lovely to hear from you x
I'd save the arguments and the £25 by not having a wife plus it means I have the added bonus of always being right 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Nathan.
Absolutely love that!!!
It’s Michael answering obvs! And you make a good point! 😂😂😂

Thanks for that suggestion. We don't tend to use our phones whilst we are cruising just in case they end up in the water!! Ha ha x
Hi Guys, you are so funny😆 1 radio becomes a paper weight
As always loving your vlogs x
Thanks John... I think they were advertised as a paperweight for boaters too!! ha ha ...
