Love it! Pen and ink and watercolor is the most satisfying medium for me personally. I enjoy seeing your take. Very fun! 🤩
Thank you! This really is a fun way of working, leading to interesting results.
I can highly recommend this workshop. I like the structure in the class as well as recommended methods on how to practice after the workshop. I learned more in three hours than I did in weeks of “ self teaching”.
Thanks for the endorsement Jeremy!
Marc, that's cool idea, also for adding details ina watercolor painting! Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!!
My pleasure!
Wow! Very thanks for this lesson.
My pleasure!
This is brilliant. Watercolor aqua inks would also be perfect for this technic.
Thank you. And yes, this can work with lots of different paints.
I like working with dip pens. Thank you for this tip.
Glad you found this useful!
Another angle, another method of creativity, you're surprises are appreciated 👌greatly thanks.
Thank you! I always try to keep new tricks up my sleeve. :)
Incredible, thank you.
My pleasure!
I would be interested in an autumn/winter dates! I have already participated in one of your workshops - I need to let the information “soak” a little and practice a little. I am definitely interested in this topic!
Thank you! I plan on rerunning these workshops in the fall, and introducing many more.
Essentially, watercolor is a type of ink that uses gummiarabic as a binder. I use it all the times. In most cases how well watercolor will work with a pen depends on the particular brand and color, you just need to try different ones to find what works best. The feeling of the nib gliding more roughly over paper may even be something that you want. Also, I usually mix larger amount of paint with water in advance using digital scales, so I can remember and replicate the proportion for optimal thickness and color saturation.
That watercolor works in dip pens shouldn’t surprise anyone. What I wanted to show is that you can work directly from a watercolor palette, and load the pen with a brush. This allows you mix small quantities and make quick color changes.
Please add more dates to your workshop.
Thanks for your interest! I'll be running this workshop again in the fall.
Awesome stuff Marc. I just found your channel 2 weeks ago, and have been hooked ever since. I appreciate all the information you put out on your YT channel. I've been on a 5 year hiatus from drawing and painting, which I thought would never happen, but your videos and the work you do have pushed me to pick things back up. I've never used a fountain pen before, only brush pens, but just ordered a Duke 600 w/ a Fude nib and some Lexington Gray ink, and I can't wait to start experimenting. Not sure if that's a good combo for a first timer, but it sure seems fun nonetheless. Quick question, will your "Sketching People in Pen & Watercolor" online workshop ever be available as a streaming class in the future?
@@wu___ thanks for you note. I’m so glad you found my channel and are finding it useful. The plan is to make a Sketching People downloadable class available sometime in September.
Very nice
Thanks!
Cool technique thank you
You’re very welcome!
What is the advantage of watercolor in a dip pen over ink in a dip pen?
A number come to mind. It allows you to use your pen with a large palette of colors, and make quick adjustments to the color as you work. And because you’re loading the nib with a brush, you don’t need to mix large quantities of paint. I suppose you could do something similar with inks, but water soluble inks contain no binder, and do not layer as well as watercolor, and waterproof inks cannot be used dry from a palette, so you would have to work from bottles, a messy proposition.
@@mkompan good points all. And provides that ultimate degree of watercolor precision that I've struggled with getting via brush.
interesting. since it is not a dye does it flow as smoothly on fine tips?
I haven't tried this with a large range of pens, but the flow is decent enough on some of the finer tipped nib in my collection.
