Lots of ways of measuring the power of EVs. By the previous method the ‘24 M3P has 627PS where the ‘23 M3P had 534PS. In reality they both use the LG battery which has peak power output of 564PS, and the rated power cannot be greater than this. The ‘24 M3P has more torque below 60mph and more power above 60mph. It’s faster despite what appears to be a lower peak power output!
The 510hp figure for the US variant with the Panasonic battery is inline with the 506hp rating of the ‘21 M3P with the same battery. The LG battery used in the UK/EU has 20hp less peak power and 40hp less around 50% SoC where these conservative power specs are taken.
It’s not good how they have priced these in the UK- way higher than most countries. Even much more than Ireland who have a higher VAT rate and the same (Eu is all the same as the UK-10%) tariff on Chinese car imports. Plus over 9% APR! They will have to drop these like a stone to keep sales going after the initial early adopters have bought them. They will depreciate rapidly. Especially when Tesla drop the price. Great summary. thanks Richard, I was holding back to order this, currently have a 2020 performance, but I got to say, I'm a bit confused and disappointed with new performance and here is why...my 2020 performance is 490 PS , the new car is stating 460 so that's 470 PS ? In summary, It would be worth selling at 25k and adding 15k for the long range, as 15k is almost worth all the other new benefits of the long range highland but minus the power. This is weird Richard, albeit from the UK I currently live in Sweden. Typically cars are way more expensive over here. Just been on to the Tesla configurator and configured a performance with basic spec as you have. No tow bar, black interior and with out enhanced auto pilot. The cost for this is 644,170 Swedish crowns. This equates to £47,575 GBP at current exchange rate. I have never seen this before where I can buy a car in Sweden way cheaper than UK? When I originally bought my EV6 GT it was similar’ish to UK maybe slightly more expensive. Obviously exchange rates were a bit different. But this is a huge saving and very unusual for Tesla. I wonder does Tesla give a damn about the UK because of all the perceived negativity on EV’s in UK? Just very interesting. Interested in getting one myself, hence looking at the configurator!
@@alancobbin Recently there have been a number of reductions on Teslas. Certainly over in Sweden where we do not use Euros. Just such a huge price difference considering typically in most things except houses, it is usually more expensive in Sweden. Albeit when I did go back home last year I did notice things had gone up a lot. But to be fair that was the same everywhere.
Just been on to Tesla app and chose Belgium/Holland as they use Euros. The performance on there is €56,970 euros. Based on current Euro rate of 1.16 euros to a pound. This equates to £49,112 Gbp. So the UK is paying a lot more. Thought it strange Sweden especially would be so cheap? Maybe the right hand drive situation is causing Tesla to charge more?
The wheels look like crap with the plastic bits popped out because there is a huge hole or socket next to each spoke that holds the plastic to the wheels.
I hope someone creates a set of smaller plastic inserts for the minimal area of the circumference, that can replace the inserts the wheels come with from Tesla. You are right that without something to cover these holes it's going to be an eye sore. But I would expect someone should be able to make some inserts that allow us to see more of what actually look like nice alloy wheels, while still hiding these eye sore holes. Also, note that those holes only appear to be behind every other section - when removing the larger plastic inserts, it appears there are no holes behind those - so I assume those purely snap in place. Meaning maybe you could just remove the larger plastic inserts and leave the other ones which hide the holes in place - but of course that itself may just end up looking ugly and bizarre. Really need someone to experiment with removing these inserts to see how it looks. And like I say, it should be possible for someone to create a set of inserts which look nicer, cover less of the alloy wheel, while covering the eye sore holes.
Here in Malaysia the price is 40,500 Pounds. I am waiting to find out what the general perception is, what the real range is and for the childhood problems to clear. Also waiting for an opportunity to teleport my existing FSD to the new Performance unit if and when the door opens.
I agree, I’m not super impressed with the new wheel design. Yes it could look more different to the standard 3 but it’s also a lot cheaper than an M3/RS4/etc so it’s unfair to compare them.
@@colinbouckaert3450 I’m talking about the buttons. Not the stalks. Those buttons in the performance are the old capacitive ones without the clicky feel from the Model S. The new ones featured in the M3 RWD and LR are not used in the performance which is bloody odd. Check MKBHD’s video - he tests it first hand
I ordered mine as well, mine number 6 which you can pick up from the VIN last 4 digits and yes the ship has sailed. Not sure if I let my older M3P go at the moment, The Juniper perf. is also coming at the end of this year, so the wife is super excited. Still have my Model X P100 which is nice for the longer journeys and the grandchildren.
Have ordered one in red. Current model 3 performance one of the early ones is still worth over 22,000 pretty good for having a supercar for 4 years. Really interested to see if the ride can be softened a bit for town driving
The wife and I just test drove the Highland RWD and were very impressed by the ride, handling and refinement, so I would expect similar improvements for the new performance model. If you wish to soften the ride on your original M3P, get the MPP comfort adjustable suspension (based on KW3) which improves ride and body control. Also you can lower the car a little to improve the stance and reduce drag.
Holding fire until there’s more detail on the reason for the price difference between UK and EU - £59,990 vs €55,890. I wonder if there is a UK price drop in the works (or an EU increase).
@@mattx4253 Tesla uses scam interest rates in many markets. They do not trust the value of their cars which is why they charge extremely high lease rates. Just don't buy the subpar products from a company who doesn't give a shit about customers service or build quality. Most manufacturers offer better EVs today and there are even many sub 20-25k EVs out on the market today while Tesla still tries to sell economy cars for double or three times as much.
Gee, that’s expensive. It’s the equivalent of about £42,200 in Australia. About £46,400 on the road. It is FAR cheaper than the Ioniq 5 N, which is £58,000 in Australia, or £63,000 on the road.
Euro performance down 40bhp ? 79kw battery as yanks getting 82kw battery, so will only the US version get the 2.9 to 60 ? Shite on Tesla I want the same or nothing .
bigger brakes, until you remember the problem with model 3 performance is that you cant use the brakes enough to keep them in good nick in everyday use.....
My current Tesla Model 3 Performance is up for renewal in September and I am actually considering going back to petrol. This is mainly due to the cost with the PCP being so high now, along with insurance and high charging costs away from home, it’s not making financial sense.
@@SpennyUK71 Thanks. It'll be interesting to see what you do. TOC should favour EVs but i can see why high PCP/lease and insurance make the fuel and maintenance savings moot. Charging costs are coming down now, 44p seems the norm for superchargers, it will be interesting if they continue to drop.
@@RSEV The confusion seems to stem from the Chinese model. In China, for some reason, the performance is coming with 19" wheels instead of 20". But again, these are all round the vehicle - front and rear in China are both 19". Again staggered - so the rears are wider. And it sounds like China is the only country which is getting 19" As far as I'm aware no one yet has any explanation for why China is uniquely getting these smaller wheels.
If you got your changes, you would be paying BMW m prices. What I love about my m3 LR is it’s affordability. I never envisaged I would own a car quicker than my dream Ferrari Testarossa.
What is this obsession with performance? The standard models have more than enough for the road and for a safe drive. The ridiculous thin tyres are too prone to pot hole damage. I am interested in the new Highland M3LR in a year or two but would never consider any more aggressive. It sends the wrong signals.
Pathetic car, they actively railed the butts of non-US customers by offering a crippled version in the rest of the world. Just a scam company and none of the vehicles are worth it
Hi Richard, Did you place a business or personal order? I have placed a personal order for the new M3P, but the app is insisting that I confirm my business details (I don’t have one) - and that is even though I selected Personal/Sole Trader as the option. Just wondering if you encountered anything similar.
All up as an Australian who was really looking forward to this thing, I'm very, very disappointed in learning that the versions outside of the U.S. (like Australia) only get 460HP instead of the full 510HP. That is really F####d! Marques Brown also indicated that they have removed the haptics from the steering wheel controls... wow... just stupid. ruclips.net/video/52O3cYsyZMo/видео.html&ab_channel=AutoFocus
I THINK due to depreciation im not going to be able to order the new M3P as i bought the old m3p September 2022.. its MINT on 19,000 miles i put £14k down but its devalued way more than i thought so i doubt ill be able to finance my way into a new one without another whopping deposit. Advice?
I love mine anyway, i might wack the new front seats in mine if they fit and don’t cost toooo much. Also i hate them dual motor red line badges.. might whack the new performance badge on.. or is that like whacking a new m3 badge on a retro m3 🤔
I've been in the old Performance but never felt the acceleration. The fastest car I can remember driving is the Tesla M3 LR Dual Motor with performance pack, which turns an already very fast car in a straight line into a ballistic missle. And that is in the late 3 seconds. I find it slightly hard to comprehend a car that is almost a third faster to 60mph. It'll be interesting to see the videos.
I would by the new performance immediately as the successor of my 2019 Model 3 if it would have a regular direction indicator lever instead of those stupid buttons. Alas, it is not even available as an option - I would pay a thousand GBP/EUR more for it, really - so I have to stick with my Model 3 from 2019 until Tesla sees the light. Or I have to go to another brand for my next EV.
@@Uchejnr - do not need, I simulated it and observed others and reviews. Terrible with roundabouts and when driving with the hands in the 10-after-10 (of 10 before 2 if you like) position on the steering wheel. Absoloutely not for me. I love my current Tesla but I fear it will be my last - just because of this stupid decision by Telsa.
@@armandsimonis7992 idk man I also simulated first but after experiencing it, it’s actually not an issue. Your hand placement does change on the wheel to 9 and 3. On roundabouts the key is to move the wheel through your hands. Any point where the indicators pass 12 o’clock, I used my right hand to essentially track the indicators ready to select the required one. There is a small bump which separates them so you do actually know which you’re pressing. I’d say even for the experience just book a test drive. Atleast with Tesla they won’t bombard you with a sales pitch after the drive
@@Uchejnr Glad it works for you after some getting used to. It is not for me, I want to drive 10-before-2, not adapt to 9-3 (too vague and instable for me , especially on roads with a lot of corners - like in the mountains and such) and to handle a roundabout differently. Normally I am not that conservative at all but in this case I am. I still haven't given up the hope that Telsa will provide a more classic steering wheel as an option in the near future (again, if needed I am prepared to pay 2000 GBP/EUR extra for it). And if not I go shop somewhere else, even with a little pain in my heart. In the meantime I hope my current Model 3 2019 will still going strong for at least a handful of years.
@@armandsimonis7992 I guess with Tesla you never know. They didn’t introduce the stalkless round wheel when people weren’t feeling the yoke to bringing back the stalks could be a possibility

Exactly. The 3 year old performance were 55-60k retail in the states and can be had for 25-30k currently. Never buy a new Tesla. I plan on getting a “old” 21-22’ performance for 22k and then trading up to a “new” performance in 4-6 years.
Hi Richard, I bought an model 3 performance on lease in 2019 and regretted the day it went back. I ordered a new one today in white/white after much deliberation, I initially wanted red/black or grey/white but think the white contrasting with the black trim would look fantastic. Also I bought at red GR Yaris recently and a metallic red Ferrari Portofino last year but need the tesla as a daily for work and having 3 red cars on my drive would be a bit too much. Tesla are quoting June so just hope I've made the right choice🤞🤞 I always watch every video and take your opinions on board so thank you for what must be a lot of hard work as it's really useful information.
Correction to your video, it comes with staggered 20” wheels all around , not 19” in the front. It’s wider in the rear than the front but not different wheels diameters
Having taken away the indicator stalks, would it have been better to have a button on both sides of the steering wheel? As left button to TL Right to TR. just a thought.

🤔
Exactly Richard. Questions need to be asked?
M3P new in the uk have always been around £55k-£60k ,that’s around €60k.
Ordered mine straight away. Ive been waiting years to pull the trigger!
Is there a "valet mode" so that one can limit the performance when handing the car to a third party? I like the wheels by the way.
Yeah there is a valet mode. Limits speed, locks glovebox and frunk. Removes home and work locations from navigation and a lot more
Why the bloody hell did they mount the old steering wheel without the new clicky buttons on the Performance?! WHY!
Everywhere I'm looking, it's the new stalkless steering wheel.
@@wallstreet1469 hell no! I want the buttons on the RWD and LR. The buttons in the performance lacks the tactile click.
@@colinbouckaert3450new LR Highland = clicky real buttons on the wheel, new Performance Highland = no real buttons, like Model S = WHY ON EARTH?
'Duty to buy'😂😂
First Tesla I actually like and I'd like have😊 Any of the Highland range
I’ve ordered the white as well Richard
i'm waiting for the Y Juniper to be launched
Just ordered one too went for white also , nearly went for the long range so glad I waited an extra week , can’t wait !
This is around $100k on the road here in Australia. Not including government rebates.
$87000 AUD in states without rebates or incentives (NSW and Vic I think). That is just over 45000 UK pounds
85k da in qld
How fast is it?
Not fast enough - barely an improvement over the existing version and nowhere near a plaid S. So not fast enough ;)
Yes I’m fed up of being ripped off in the UK. The interest rate scam is also 9.6%
@@mattx4253 Tesla uses scam interest rates in many markets.
LOL "The white one won't show stone chips". I have a white SR+ that begs to differ...
Euro performance down 40bhp ? 79kw battery as yanks getting 82kw battery, so will only the US version get the 2.9 to 60 ? Shite on Tesla I want the same or nothing .
The loss of the indicator stick is a real turn off. It should be an option.
bigger brakes, until you remember the problem with model 3 performance is that you cant use the brakes enough to keep them in good nick in everyday use.....
My current Tesla Model 3 Performance is up for renewal in September and I am actually considering going back to petrol. This is mainly due to the cost with the PCP being so high now, along with insurance and high charging costs away from home, it’s not making financial sense.
What petrol car do you think you'd get? Genuinely curious.
@@EwanM11 Audi A5
@@SpennyUK71 Thanks. It'll be interesting to see what you do. TOC should favour EVs but i can see why high PCP/lease and insurance make the fuel and maintenance savings moot. Charging costs are coming down now, 44p seems the norm for superchargers, it will be interesting if they continue to drop.
Cheap to run, what about insurance, 0-60 in under 3secs??!
Wheels are 20” all round
Ah.. I heard 19” on front from someone, maybe autotrader review video..?
I thought would be a bit odd!
@@RSEV Yea that was an error. The staggering is just width. However, China does offer 19" wheels all round.
@@RSEVthey're staggered, wider 20" at the back to deal with the power and torque
ruclips.net/video/SsI8i1nfahs/видео.htmlsi=ZCupveWHlc3sZE7Y
Yeah, Autotrader video states 235 R19 at the front and 275 Rw0 on the rear
@@RSEV The confusion seems to stem from the Chinese model.
In China, for some reason, the performance is coming with 19" wheels instead of 20". But again, these are all round the vehicle - front and rear in China are both 19". Again staggered - so the rears are wider.
And it sounds like China is the only country which is getting 19"
As far as I'm aware no one yet has any explanation for why China is uniquely getting these smaller wheels.
Do you review any BYD’s?
If you got your changes, you would be paying BMW m prices. What I love about my m3 LR is it’s affordability. I never envisaged I would own a car quicker than my dream Ferrari Testarossa.
Different size wheels! Well you won't be rotating the tyres on that one 😆
Is there any difference between the new model y lr rwd and model y lr awd other than the drivetrain?
Range: bad.528km compared to previous model 570km.
Performance: only 460hp in UK and Europe version compared to US (510ps).
Why does Tesla do this….?
Because they like to scam their customers
What is this obsession with performance? The standard models have more than enough for the road and for a safe drive. The ridiculous thin tyres are too prone to pot hole damage. I am interested in the new Highland M3LR in a year or two but would never consider any more aggressive. It sends the wrong signals.
Jammy! Nice one 👍👍
I want one but i cant buy because my TSLA Stock is down😅 i have to drive my intel legacy performance a bit more😂
Pathetic car, they actively railed the butts of non-US customers by offering a crippled version in the rest of the world. Just a scam company and none of the vehicles are worth it
I drive performance cars daily and my red Model 3 long range is worth every penny.
Hi Richard, Did you place a business or personal order? I have placed a personal order for the new M3P, but the app is insisting that I confirm my business details (I don’t have one) - and that is even though I selected Personal/Sole Trader as the option. Just wondering if you encountered anything similar.
Rlchard, why do you think the difference in range is over a 100 km from M3LR to M3P ? For MY the diff is only 30 km..
...because Tesla says so on the store...
I'm waiting for Elon to drop the price, as is his usual stunt. Also, the PCP rate is pretty high at the moment.
A bit beefier look would be great, but behind the wheel who really cares.

Are you honestly quibbling about a couple of grand more when you are looking to spend (or finance) 60k for a car?!!
I THINK due to depreciation im not going to be able to order the new M3P as i bought the old m3p September 2022.. its MINT on 19,000 miles i put £14k down but its devalued way more than i thought so i doubt ill be able to finance my way into a new one without another whopping deposit. Advice?
Yeah that sucks, a lot of people who bought the older M3P’s are upside down on their loan value
Have you test driven the new model 3 to see how you’d get on with the new indicators?

Tesla are quoting June so just hope I've made the right choice🤞🤞
I always watch every video and take your opinions on board so thank you for what must be a lot of hard work as it's really useful information.
Haven’t ordered one, with the price drop for new EVs, I think I’ll wait for a 2 to 3 year old one

I've read it looks like the China made will have a smaller battery and less power than the American built cars so slower 0-60 and less range 😢
I hope they do something more agressive with Model Y Juniper Performance!
