Here's a video idea: Buy the stuff you need for a "starter" kitchen (think young person moving out first time) and cook a full week's worth of meals using only those tools (assuming that large white goods are part of the apartment). Do a survey among your viewers and find out which budgets people had when they first moved out and use that as a limit. If the stuff you buy end up being crap (very likely with a low budget), do some suggested upgrades at reasonable prices. Basically - figure out what it costs to set up a decent first kitchen.
Also tips of having a well stocked pantry. As someone who does live with 1 person, but typically only cooks for 1 it's difficult to not just buy convenience foods and I'm a chef. It feels silly to cook a great meal for 1 all the time.

I’d love to see Ben talk more about tips for cooking for 1 person. Use your freezers, people. I usually cook family sized batches and freeze portions for later. Cook once, get 4-6 meals which you can eat at any point in the next few months. Healthy, home cooked tv-dinners, basically. My freezer is currently stocked with a few zip lock baggies each of beef stroganoff, chili con carne, pork stew, beef bourgignon, bean and bacon soup, stuffed peppers, and tuna casserole. I could eat home made dinners for a couple months without cooking once. Just add some fresh veg. You could do lasagne, bolognese, soups and pies... anything that's good reheated will be good frozen, thawed and then reheated. Save time, money, electricity, and get your food exactly as healthy or unhealthy as you like it, in portion sizes you choose. Between freezer meals and home made ferments and pickles, you can just not even bother with groceries for three weeks if you're busy, and still eat a healthy, balanced diet.
The best part of this series is that you ACTUALLY try the products no matter how overpriced, crappy or amazing they first appear. It's one thing to see an ad and make snap judgements or assumptions... but its another seeing you guys give them a proper go. Defo my fav series after pass it on

@@SortedFood I'm with Ebbers on that one, it needs to be able to just spin to the spice then dispense without removing the compartment, otherwise, just put the containers they come in within easy reach.
Heated lunchboxes are a gamechanger. Especially if you work in a non traditional environment that doesn't have a break room or microwave. I used the crock pot one for years. Wow, thank you for letting me know about the Luncheaze. That *IS* truly a game changer for me. As a construction worker or ESPECIALLY a flagger. The fact that you can schedule the start time of heating, and set a max temperature, in a cordless 200$ product
Ok I might need to look into this. I’m a delivery driver and I don’t have time to go hunt out a place to eat in the middle of my route and I’m kinda tired of eating cold sandwiches every day. I love how the last two items were complete opposites. The chopper is something that everyone would need, if it worked properly, which it doesn't (and they never do). The ice cream roller is something that doesn't need to exist at all but is totally quality and at least does what it says it will.
The spice carousel brings back memories of a friend's mother making Las Vegas meatloaf, spin the carousel and what comes up goes in, the chef decides how much. They were always delicious.
At first mention, that sounds terrifying, but on second thought, in the hands of a knowledgeable chef that would be really interesting. If they know a lot of different spice blends/profiles... they could do a lot.
as someone who installs networks, very often during last stages of construction works, that lunch box is something that's really handy. I've been using a different brand for a few years now and i can recommend getting something like that for everyone who works outside of office spaces.

I legitimately laughed out loud a few times for this one. When Ben said "blades everywhere," I immediately thought of the coconut shredder and then a minute later, Mike made that same comparison lol. Classic.
I like the idea of the spice rack - I tend to buy spices at a co-op, where you buy loose spices (either using a bag or bring your own container). You could easily bring those containers to fill.
The Bruno lunchbox is similar to like a dozen bento boxes they make and sell in Japan that are plug-in, or self heating. It's not entirely unusual outside the UK, but damn it sure is useful.
two new ideas for challenges: 1. no energy/depression cooking (needs a better name!), get the participants to use as few elements/stages as possible AND as little clean up needed as possible (like dishes, trash etc) as little effort as possible but still not like, microwave meals you know! lite sure, use shortcuts, but you're not supposed to notice them in the final dish. cook like you have no energy to cook/depression. when I am in a depressive episode the thought of many different stages or elements in cooking or the cleaning up afterwards makes it almost impossible to start cooking. 2. Use as little electricity as possible! (don't really know how to measure this though, number of times or different points for low/medium/high...?)
6:04 I've had a similar gadget before, and I can tell you that if your kitchen gets humid on a regular basis, the spices with start to cake within each container, and it's a /bugger/ to clean out.
Y'all should do a cooking battle where the contestants have to use the Kitchen Gadgets you've reviewed! You could maybe do it as a draft format where they start by selecting which gadgets they want.
I love the idea of the Bruno. If I was still working from the office I'd totally want one for my desk at work. The Pan-n-Ice looks like a really cool idea too.
Regarding the spice carousel... I have had a similar one for over 15 years and it does come In handy. I have a small kitchen, with limited cabinet space. Having this mounted under a cabinet right next to the stove keeps the spices in easy reach without taking up space in the cabinets. Several people commented about labels, the carousel I have came with a sheet of printed labels listing lots of different spices, so you could choose which 12 to apply to each container. If you are someone that has many jars of spices, you know the annoyance of having to dig through a cabinet full of jars to find the one you need, this product does help.
The bruno lunchbox would be great for people like me who are just too busy and get stuck at their desks working. You don't even have to walk to the kitchen 👍
There are thermos containers, able to keep a lunch warm for up to 20hrs, that are cheaper options. I used one on a work where there was just no microwave nor electric plug available nearby and it worked perfectly.
@@etienne8110 Wouldn't that mean having to heat it up at home beforehand? Bruno gives the option of bringing food straight from the fridge at home if one doesn't have time to heat and keeping it safe for 3 hours for later heating
So not only do you have to remember to prep your lunch a half hour early; you have to stir 1+ times, again pre-lunch, you have to devote desk and/or drawer space to it AND you annoy your coworkers with the smell of cooking/reheating food *at*your*desk*.
Something Ebbers said has resonated with me, it is true that so many of the sorted recipes are for 2. Like Ebbers I live alone and the fact that the recipes on the app are for 2 people is one of the reasons I stopped using it. I can always do the maths myself and half recipes etc, but at that point I'm losing one of the main functions of the app. Would be really good to see it modified to make it more useful for single folk.
The spice carousel isn’t a terrible idea, but I wouldn’t use it at all. I have an entire cupboard with 3 shelves RAMMED with herbs, spices and the like. I just use a spoon to measure out the stuff I need! Perhaps for someone with not as many herbs and spices as I have, it would be better.
I have to think it's made for people who only have the true basics (salt, pepper) and buy mixes. I don't even have a large collection of spices and I already have more than can fit in that carousel. I have mine on a rolling cart that rolls out from my laundry area (converted walk-in closet off the kitchen) into the kitchen and then goes hide in the dark when I'm not cooking.
I’m the same, my spices would never all fit. It takes one trip to the Asian supermarket or Indian guy down the road and I have whole chillies, star anise and cinnamon quills, which would never fit and then I’d be saddled with this spacecraft thing plus my usual box of “unusual” spices.
It would also work really well for someone who has a lot of spices as a way to put your most commonly used spices so it’s easy access. It for sure had its flaws but it has some potential.
i loved the triple grater/cutter i've seen recently on facebook .. . .it's like one of those "as seen on tv " veggie cutters ... but with one movement of a hand you get the job done 3 times - so 4 waves with hand give you 12 cuts of salami, carrots, etc
That lunchbox sounds like a fire waiting to happen. That might also be the reason why we’re not allowed to plug in anything besides phones and laptops at work. 🔥
the Bruno lunchbox is interesting if your office doesn't have a microwave, otherwise it's unnecessary; you'll have to pre-plan your lunch by 30 minutes (and having a heat source like that surrounded by paperwork on your desk could be a fire hazard), and i doubt any line to the microwave would take you that long
My old workplace had 2 microwaves for 200 employees. Adding any more threw the breaker. If I still worked there I may have considered it, since the wait time could get over 30 minutes long at lunch. My new workplace has 8 microwaves spread over 3 floors. So, no need for Bruno now.
I love these videos so much. As a kid in the late seventies/early eighties, it was one activity that everyone in the family enjoyed - going to the Home Show and watching what we called the "slice it dice it men." It was very Ron Popeil. We tried the non-electric bag sealer, the spiral cutter that would make carrot rosettes if it didn't shred your fingers in the cutlery drawer first, the spout that you shove into an orange to juice it (which actually did work), and I was very excited when I went to university because I was able to buy one of those knives that could cut a tin can and still smoothly cut a tomato (with complementary steak knives included!). I never used it to cut a tin can though.
I love that the Select a Spice is still around--it's reassuring to know if mine ever break I can replace them! I've used them for well over a decade. The majority of my spice cabinet contains three of them--two stacked on a tall shelf and one separate on a short one. I buy my spices in bulk (way cheaper!). Way easier to find the spice I want than having to root around lots of spice bottles that get knocked over. Nicely labeled, easy to read, the one I want can always be spun to the front. (Ben is right that most tablespoons don't fit. I did find one that does!)
At least it's flat, takes up way less space than a bowl/paddle insert to a more traditional ice cream maker. The bowl/paddle needs to be frozen for a long time too and you can only make 1 batch with it.
I've seen some really dinky freezers in my day, and I'm pretty sure sure most freezers can comfortably accommodate that tray unless you're trying to shove it into the ice maker section of a mini-fridge. Definitely not something you'd need a "fairly big" freezer for.
On the subject of spice storage, if you have a lot I'd recommend using a full drawer with small clip jars. Depending on the brand they're just short enough to fit into a standard UK sized drawer. You can put round stickers on the top with the names, and arrange alphabetically. It's very quick to retrieve them, and what space you lose in a drawer you can make up from wherever else you were keeping them. YMMV.
For the lucnhbox there's a MUCH better product out there, it called the luncheaze and it has a battery and you can set it to automatically heat your food for a specific time so lunch is hot and ready when you need it
Am I the only person who now has 'We don't talk about Bruno' as an ear worm? 😆. I like Bruno. I could see myself using that a lot, so I think I'd pay a money. With the spins and clicks, that spice rack is a massive foodie fidget toy! 😁 I don't think I could be bothered to faff about with the 'Pan-n-Ice' thingy. 🙃
That ice cream gadget is a win in my books. It's similar to using a freezer ice cream machine in terms of prep, just with a tray instead of a bowl. Will seriously consider getting one!
Lmao I’ve been waiting since 1 and a half hours because I was that excited. Such a lovely day to review gadgets with Resident Allotment Enthusiast, Ben.
I've owned a similar lunch box. It's a lifesaver when taking your lunch to work. No more fighting for the only microwave for 30 people, hopping that it will be working when it gets to your turn. Just plug it in half an hour before your lunch break, eat it and rest for a while before getting back.
I recently redid my spice shelf (which was a hodgepodge of random containers before, some more airtight than others) and for the _briefest_ of moments considered that very KitchenArt unit. With how much I eyeball sprinkle spices, and how that thing _looks_ plasticky, I went with a nice set of square 4 fl. oz. (≈120mL) spice jars on a rack/two-level shelf instead, with lids labelled-much less fiddly, easy to do an eyeball sprinkle, looks super clean and fits nicely in a space-constrained kitchen.
My issues with the lunch box- 1. It will have permanent food stains (especially tumeric) from first use 2. I don't want to heat food in a plastic container, I'm sure it will be fine for some time, but sooner or later it will breakdown into the food.
My Friend, a Farmer, carries a Tractor Oven with her in the tractor. 12 volt, heats in about a hour and a half. She makes her own meals, stores in proper size and plops in the tray, then straight to the Oven... Nice!
3 Iconic Moments of Ben getting excited: - Making Fruit Pizza at an Irish Farm - Seeing a garden in Scotland - “Ooooh now we’re talking!” in this video. It’s not a mood, it’s a lifestyle.
So, I have the spice rack, and I love it. Actually I have two stacked and mounted under the cabinet next to my stove. I have one recipe I make frequently that happens to have 12 herbs and spices that go into it. So I have all of those in one, and then another 12 I use frequently in the other. Particularly with recipes I know by heart, it is super fast for me to grab a spice, crank out however many turns I need, put it back and grab the next. Not needing to grab measuring spoons and potentially having to clean them between spices is great and saves time too. It does have some drawbacks, and I wish the build quality was a little higher. But I say take it for a spin. 4 stars! 😁
Most of these battery/rechargeable gadgets just never seem to have the oomph I it can make the dangerous as you end up forcing stuff through. Quite liked the ice-cream roll one though. 🍛🍦
Bruno Box: Garbage. you could buy a microwave for your office breakroom for that price. Spice Thingy: Garbage, use the containers they come in, as Ben said. Slicer: Garbage, just use a real food processor and not lose any fingers. Ice roller: Ok, not great. You can still do the same thing in a glass baking dish.

Anybody else here losing it at 3:48 when Mike tells Ben, "To address the hole in the bottom, that's for you to be able to mount it..." No? Just me? All right then 🤣🤣🤣
I used to use a crockpot warmer for food. It took a bit longer and look similar to a rice cooker but it was sealed so you could take stew into work in your bag and then 1.5 hours prior to lunch crack the lid open and start warming it up. Seems like the one here would have issues if your bag with it in fell over because the contents could easily leak out.

I love the idea of the Bruno. If I was still working from the office I'd totally want one for my desk at work. The Pan-n-Ice looks like a really cool idea too.
I'm guessing Tyrone has grown up and left for university since Ben lives alone and cooks for himself. How time has gone by
I actually heard he got eloped
Lolololol Lolololol
Whatever Barry’s done with his hair is fantastic. Love it.
Why do I now have “we don’t talk about Bruno?” In my head?!
What a film 😂.... we can't wait to 'stuff' bru-no-no-no.
And I would love to take it to uni since we don't have a cafeteria or a communal microwave
You need a lunch break. By law you’re entitled to a lunch break. Your boss should be ensuring that you take your lunch break.
Wouldn't even fit in my cabinet. It just takes up so much space.
I love this format!
i loved the triple grater/cutter i've seen recently on facebook .. . .it's like one of those "as seen on tv " veggie cutters ... but with one movement of a hand you get the job done 3 times - so 4 waves with hand give you 12 cuts of salami, carrots, etc
"I can't wait to stufff Bruno full of this later" Damnit Mike you had me in tears 😂😂😂
I love Ben's energy so much lol
That lunchbox sounds like a fire waiting to happen. That might also be the reason why we’re not allowed to plug in anything besides phones and laptops at work. 🔥
And you could just use a food flask..🤷♀️
Ebbers and that chopper made me forget I was at work! 😂😂😂 Now the Bruno looks fun!
the Bruno lunchbox is interesting if your office doesn't have a microwave, otherwise it's unnecessary; you'll have to pre-plan your lunch by 30 minutes (and having a heat source like that surrounded by paperwork on your desk could be a fire hazard), and i doubt any line to the microwave would take you that long
My old workplace had 2 microwaves for 200 employees. Adding any more threw the breaker. If I still worked there I may have considered it, since the wait time could get over 30 minutes long at lunch. My new workplace has 8 microwaves spread over 3 floors. So, no need for Bruno now.
@@jessip8654 WE DONT TALK ABOUT BRUNO
Those ruddy Ginzu steak knives! For a limited time only! Order now and secure your set now! But wait...., there’s more!
I need y'all to get these up by 10 CST! Now I gotta go to work and can't get my Sorted until tonight. You guys still rock though, see ya Sunday
Oh no! Something to look forward to tonight?
@@SortedFood I suppose, patience Is a virtue. Can you guys cook from the Disney Princess Cook Book? An ask for my daughter
I like the idea of the ice cream roll tray, but not the fact that you need to keep it in a fairly big freezer for 24 hours to get 5 uses out of it
At least it's flat, takes up way less space than a bowl/paddle insert to a more traditional ice cream maker.
I like the online reviews and star ratings. Please make that a permanent fixture in the series!
Wanted to watch later, but when I saw kitchen gadgets, I couldn't wait!
Thats what we like to hear!
YMMV.
For the lucnhbox there's a MUCH better product out there, it called the luncheaze and it has a battery and you can set it to automatically heat your food for a specific time so lunch is hot and ready when you need it
Like Barry/Mike said, Ebbers was on a roll with this video! Amazing & punchy reviews 😄. Loved it.
Pun intended?
Am I the only person who now has 'We don't talk about Bruno' as an ear worm? 😆.
I like Bruno. I could see myself using that a lot, so I think I'd pay a money.
With the spins and clicks, that spice rack is a massive foodie fidget toy! 😁
I don't think I could be bothered to faff about with the 'Pan-n-Ice' thingy. 🙃
please don't break up any time soon. I absolutetly love your content and I am just waiting everytime for your upload :)
That ice cream gadget is a win in my books. It's similar to using a freezer ice cream machine in terms of prep, just with a tray instead of a bowl. Will seriously consider getting one!
I have a double stack of the spice spinner. It is awesome, we did use a label maker so similar spices can be easily identified.
My problem with the spice carousel... no labels?? As we found out from the other day salt and sugar... is an issue.
Sugar isn't actually a spice
@@user-qs1xz2mx6f fine but mixing up your ground dried leaves isn't good either.
That ice pan looks awesome! Wish I had the space for it in my freezer. 😆😋
love these videos.. epic reaction from ben.. x
Heating Bento box was a life saver for me, so much money saved in place that didn't have any appliances.
Lmao I’ve been waiting since 1 and a half hours because I was that excited. Such a lovely day to review gadgets with Resident Allotment Enthusiast, Ben.
Thanks for waiting for us Pokhraj 😃
I've owned a similar lunch box. It's a lifesaver when taking your lunch to work. No more fighting for the only microwave for 30 people, hopping that it will be working when it gets to your turn. Just plug it in half an hour before your lunch break, eat it and rest for a while before getting back.
Love the review Barry Lewis reviewed the 4 in 1 chopper and felt the same as you did.
My issues with the lunch box-
1. It will have permanent food stains (especially tumeric) from first use
2. I don't want to heat food in a plastic container, I'm sure it will be fine for some time, but sooner or later it will breakdown into the food.
Ok but I was excited for the tote bag too!!!! 😂
It’s nice to see Mike as a host again! He’s the best host for Christmas Specials.
P.S. Does Mike have something against Tote Bags?
My Friend, a Farmer, carries a Tractor Oven with her in the tractor. 12 volt, heats in about a hour and a half. She makes her own meals, stores in proper size and plops in the tray, then straight to the Oven... Nice!
3 Iconic Moments of Ben getting excited:
- Making Fruit Pizza at an Irish Farm
- Seeing a garden in Scotland
- “Ooooh now we’re talking!” in this video.
4 stars! 😁
It's Darth Vader's spice rack 😂
The fact there was no giggling over handing a bag of plugs to Ben shows some growth lol
This channel is now so entertainment focused I really miss when you all used to teach real cooking techniques
Why is Ben so dang charming?? Just adore watching his reactions
My favorite part of this episode was ben giving it a star and a short review
I love when I see a gadget on here and on Barry Lewis and get different opinions on it. It's fab.
The Bruno lunchbox and the ice-cream roll machine are fantastic. But that food washer/grinder thingy is scary!
With the campy banter around the bruno i would almost say that was a hashtag ad for me personally. Also thanks Ben for finally voicing the issue of mealpacks and being single.
"No, my name is Ben, this says Bruno" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I just can't 😂😂😂 2 seconds into his review and Ebbers has me creased 😂😂😂💀
"Ooohhhhhkaaaaay now you're talking" 😂😂😂😂😂💀
"You know what I said about rickety ? I think what I meant was crap" 😂😂😂😂
They just come out of the blue and said so deadpan but still with such vehemence and I love it 😂😂😂
"You can read through it." I absolutely expected Ebbers to then proceed to read through said instruction manual. 🤣
I love these video, even when you do something as useless as the spice rack. I enjoy Ebber's take on stuff aimed at the home market.
These are my absolute favorites videos on this channel.
This is the kind of videos that instantly make me get a crush on Ben!
Anybody else here losing it at 3:48 when Mike tells Ben, "To address the hole in the bottom, that's for you to be able to mount it..." No? Just me? All right then 🤣🤣🤣
This is the perfect pre birthday present boys ❤️❤️❤️ !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Boys 😍🤩❤️ !!!!!!!!!
