Thanks for the quick and informative update, Shawn! Your perspective on things is much appreciated, as always :) Impressive comparison between the total number of earthquakes at this time last year and this year! As for the start of the next eruption, well, I'd say around Dec 20 (I'm sure Bruce Garner could help us narrow that down :)
Gylfi had an interesting thermal drone imaging video up & it seems like things are changing/heating up in the area. I love these Scientific updates as it helps me to sort of understand. The eruptive events are stretching out & the chamber seems to have increased the amount of magma that is holding & needing to erupt! Anyway, I continue to watch with tons of interest. I’m starting to think about & do some research about travelling to Iceland in March. As long as the body holds out that is!
The thermal drones are mainly detecting changes in the dynamic hydrothermal system and are not indicative of magmatic movement. A good case in point here is similar changes in the thermal properties of the surface are seen regularly in Yellowstone, often changing weekly or monthly. Yet, this change in heat flow at the surface is not tied to movement of magma or a potential eruption.
Thanks for the report. I enjoy how you present it. Please take care of that cough, we need you. This series of irruption’s, and consistent GPS data makes it fairly easy to make a prediction on the next eruption. I say December 16, 2:00 am.
Thanks Shawn, I'm a little late to react but ok. Have you seen Gylfi's update ? He had been flying the thermal drone over the Trölladyngja area measuring an increase of temperature. He is also scared the next eruption will be further North which I disagree as the inflation has been under Svartsengi all the time (a little over a one year now) and a more Northern eruption would be further from that place.
Taking into account that each eruption started when the red curve reached a higher level than the last one my guess is late December or January for the next one. Maybe a Xmas gift.
Please make sure I get my Christmas eve lava flow to be used as fireplace video to keep me warm !!!! We all know you are the one with the controls on the magma pumps that fill up the reservoir, so you are the one who controls how fast it fills and when it blows ! Question: if this eruption takes longer than previous ones, does that signal a trend for more time between ereuptions? if not, how many eruptions with ever increasing gap before science concludes there is an ever increasing gap between eruptions?
I had read that there was different magma sources involved based on their chemical compositions, from different magma bubbles, if you will. I am also assuming that the silica content is low across the board for that region, given the basaltic nature of recent products. Have you any knowledge of anything remotely andesitic in that area?
Interesting. Geology Hub thinks this will be the larges yet with double the lava and it could flow into the ocean and possibly erupt in Grindavik. I guess well see if its smaller or larger.

Thank you for the update. Appreciate all that you do.
I always enjoy your updates. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Happy Halloween. Trick or treat Grindavik! Thank you for the update Shawn.
Thank you for the update.greetings from Denmark :)
Love the update! Thanks, Shawn.
Thanks for update Shawn
😊
Thanks for update
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
My daily attempt to educate myself. Thank you!
Thank you for the update Professor Willsey! ❤
Thank you for your channel I have learned a lot the past year and a half. Again thank you for helping me understand geology more.
Always appreciate your updates. Thank you.
Thanks for the update. I notice the Iceland Webcams website is not longer up.
Great update as usual! Thank you Prof Shawn!
Thank you Shawn! I've learned so much from you. Appreciate all you do. Still guessing Dec 18th, +/- 3 days.
Thanks for the update. Hope you had an enjoyable Halloween.
Thank you shawn great update watching and waiting 😊

Thank you!
Thanks for that.
Thanks for the update. Was it raining when you recorded this?
The live cams from Iceland started a few hours ago.
Nice update. Is there any prize for the person who guesses the date of the next eruption?
Hello everyone
Hi Shawn, thanks for the update. Is there any possibility of any eruptions before the current prediction?
Not likely. There is still space for intruding magma to fill.

It's mostly a basaltic system with some evolved magmas producing rhyolite in a few areas. Andesites are usually associated with subduction zones.
@@shawnwillsey After all this time, I did not know that about andesitic lavas. Learning is like, awesome man! (spoken in terrible Valley Dude)
happy Nevada Day
Christmas lava bombs or New Year's lava fountains?
Thanksgiving lava gravy😅

👻🎃 🔨 watch out for trick-or-treaters today
Do we have a picture of the great beard in the Halloween costume? 🎃
Beard was shaved down Into a creepy mustache for Halloween. Pictures may exist.
I'm suffering lava withdrawals . 😲😆🎃👻🦇💀💖Happy Halloween everyone!
I am flying from Europe to USA in december and decided to avoid going through Iceland, just being paranoid?
paranoid with the foreseeable future yes
Iceland is perfectly safe even when there is an eruption. No danger to tourists or residents. I would go.
Subject to nature.
Put me down for Nov 22nd
💙💛
Thanks Shawn for the update
