Thanks so much for producing this video. It means a lot to me as this was the airbase where my dad was stationed during the war.
I wasn’t able to tour it myself, though I was able to visit the memorial at the road.
Thanks again!
I did the kings cliffe control tower, they were doing shooting that day, not recommended if you hear shotguns.
You found places I didn't get to see, I went in from the memorial on kings cliffe rd.
Same with Polebrook I only found the runway end and the no access part with the hangar.
I'm going to get on my ordnance survey app immediately.
Great explore and I agree they should preserve what's left especially the wall art, amazing find.
The Callendar Hamilton hanger got dismantled and rebuilt is Stamford where it still stands. I've opened and closed hanger doors many times.
I never knew that. When you say "Stamford", where exactly do you mean ?
@@PeterboroughImages It's at the back of the Mole Country store, Uffington road, Stamford. I tried to post a screengrab but I couldn't.
Good interesting Video.Thank you for sharing.
King's Cliffe airfield is owned by Martin George of Whitworths milling. He's worth hundreds of millions. It's been rented out to a local farmer who has a lifetime rental contract for the last 50 years. In the 80's they were negotiating to pay the farmer out of his contract so they could develop the buildings and build a village up there. Unfortunately, the deal fell through as Martin George saw farming was going through a hard time and he thought the farmer would go bankrupt and he would get the land back for nothing. Fortunately for the farmer he held on and greed didn't prevail.
Thanks for the info.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Are the building remains in Old Sulehay/Bedford Purlieus woods part of this airfield as well Paul ?
I'm sure they were the accomodation blocks on the edge of Bedford Purlieus woods, same site.
There's a fantastic administrative area just off the main road that I was lucky enough to get a guided tour round about 10 years ago. The big building alongside the road is the old cinema. Deeper into the woods are a number of "dispersed" sites but these are now nothing more than concrete foundations slowly vanishing below leaf cover.
