What is PTFE? Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic material that is used in various industries and applications to reduce the coefficient of friction. Due to its non-stick properties and high heat resistance, PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. It is an excellent insulation material for electrical applications, due to its lack of conductivity. PTFE does not react to many chemicals, due to the chemical resistance of fluoropolymer bonds; this makes it effective for vessels and pipes for reactive and corrosive substances. PTFE reduces friction, wear, and energy efficiency of machinery. Due to its low friction, PTFE is used in industrial applications where sliding between parts is required, such as bearings, gears, sliding plates, etc. In these applications, it offers significantly better performance than nylon or acetal.
