Russ led the NFL in passes behind the Line Of Scrimmage 5 years straight. The reason this was the case was he'd lost his ability to scramble until he could see open receivers downfield when his view was blocked. So no, he was _not_ seeing it for 5 years. Every pass BtLOS was him not seeing the field. Last years that was over 23% of the time, over 1 in every 5 pass plays. Passes BtLOS yield on average fewer yards than straight rushing. So every 2-3 sets of downs he was putting the team at 3rd & long. Then he'd toss a check-down *on* 3rd & long because when it's 3rd & long, the opposing D sends _more_ pressure forcing him to toss an under-3 yard c-d on 3rd & long. This was driving Payton _nuts!_ He tried *everything.* But Russ couldn't _move_ back there. Brandon Perna has an interesting theory that Russ learned some much-needed humility & now just wants to help a team. This was *_clearly_* not the case in Denver where he never looked at teammates on the sidelines, spoke to them & had his Own Office & parking spot. *And* he figured out how to gain back some mobility for at least short scrambles. But he was _NOT_ playing like this the past 3 years fs.
@choosecarefully408 all I know is I've seen Russ cook over the middle for 3-4 games now. He killed Cinci tossing checkdowns over the middle and with a few deep passes over the middle as well. I'm much less familiar with what happened in denver, and they seem better off with Nix now, but as a Steelers fan who doubted Russ when he first got here, i'm loving what he's doing for us.
@@choosecarefully408 fairly convoluted….. Russ still has the 8th highest Completed air yards on average. Mahomes lovers won’t like that his number is 4.1 and near bottom of the league. In Denver yes he threw the ball behind the sticks a TON…. Part of that Payton. Russ has always had his flaws, only makes his career more special and surprising. Not the best player….. not who he once was, but absolutely can still spin it. ;) ;) Tom Brady loved his checkdowns too.
Idk how some people can’t see the defender grabbing Pickens by the helmet and throwing him down. Also, Pickens didn’t need much separation to catch the ball. He didn’t need PI.
Never thought I would find myself rooting for the Steelers. Lifer Seahawks fan and I was there in NY when Russ won us one #neverforget. Did not like the Denver situation for him, but I love what is happening in Pitt. Very satisfying to see Russ cooking again and silencing the critics that can't wait to see him fail.
The Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl y'all. As long as Wilson can play like this and have the freedom to run this offense the way he needs to, they will be unstoppable! You can hear it in Tomlin's post game press conference. He is Giddy! This is the team y'all.
WHY IS EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT RUSS LIKE HE’S NOT A HOF QB!? … He threw 40 TDs in 2020! He’s been that dude. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Every bad, good, and great QB like Russ (even Tom Brady) needs a system they enjoy playing in. Last year, he was called a “check down merchant” because he “couldn’t” throw anymore. That was NEVER the case, just the narrative. That Broncos defense last season was atrocious, and their running game non-existent. They were on track to make the playoffs before he was BENCHED for contract purposes. Put some respect on his name and resume, please!
Russell Wilson is great and his additude is the best, all he wants to do is win. I'm very happy to have him on my team, I hope he stays here and wins the Superbowl! I am surprised! The entire team is playing great! No matter what happens I am a fan for life. Go Steelers!
Russ had an injury in final year in Seattle and had good stats in his final year in Denver despite having been pulled before the season ended. Why don’t commentators acknowledge this ?
Two things.....Remember Steve Young? Remember Steve Young in Tampa Bay? When asked why the 49ers' picked him up, the answer given was the 49ers saw the problem with Steve Young was Tampa Bay, not Steve Young. The second thing is this B/S concept that Justin Fields was or is a franchise quarterback. Since when? I think Fields is better in Pittsburg than Chicago, but that's because he is not in Chicago, he still has the major flaws that prevent him from putting points on the board with his arm. That is, he knows he can't throw the ball much past 5 yards, so, he will stick to trying to hit 65% of his passes for short gains, adding up to 150 yards a game and no touchdowns. Good luck getting far in the NFL with that these days. Oh, I know, against weaker opponents, he was 4-2, well so was Kenny Pickett last year, but he outplayed Lamar Jackson and he had Matt Canada to guide him. So, is 4-2 now the standard of excellence? The Steelers have invested a lot on the offensive line, that's where the offense starts. That's where the running game improves, that's where the QB gets time to throw the ball and Russ does not miss a receiver 25 yards away by 10 feet, Fields DOES. That's also how you eat up the clock and keep your defense off the field. Now, the Steeler Defense has allowed a lot of points in the last few games, they better button things down, you can't have 40 points and barely win.
Bad take on the pick-6. That's a penalty on the DB. 5 yards from line of scrimmage or not, it's not legal to pull someone down by their helmet if you grab under the back edge, which he did. Either way, if Wilson didn't throw a ball based on the chance that his receiver could fall down, he'd never throw anything. That wouldn't have been an interception if Pickens didn't get pulled down.
Really enjoyed the analysis. But c’mon, Colt, the Pickens tackled by the helmet pick 6 shouldn’t exist. You and the ref saw it was within 5 yards of the line, but niether of you saw Pickens being thrown to the ground by his helmet?!?!
Britt did give up his ground, he jumped to the outside right at the snap of the ball. It was illegal hands at the very least. Its okay to say the refs missed the call. Quit protecting the NFL and say what it really is..... And the Bengals OFFENSE scored 31 pts, the Steelers OFFENSE scored 37 pts. Bengals got outplayed on every phase!
It was a combination of a bad Bengals D, Aurtur Smith opening up the playbook for Russ in a game they needed to score 44 points to win and Russ cookin'
A nearly-washed QB has the 2nd-most passing yards of his 10+ year career at age 35 & you think it might be due to the poor defense? Umm, yeah. Was he aiming lasers into tight windows, or lofting moon balls to open receivers? This is what bugs me about most NFL fans. They think that the two things are meaningless. "A reception is a reception, wins are wins." There's probably no one better at scheming receivers open that Sean Payton the Broncos game against the Falcons showed that incredibly well. All 4 of Nix' TDs were to receivers who had the time to stand still, wait for his air-balls to loft over to them, then trot into the end zone from over 10 yards out. I think 2 of these were from over 20 out & only one was touched on the 1-yard line, the others totally untouched. All Bo had to do was not miss them. Also, people's minds are clouded by other things like Charm or charisma. Justin Fields seems to have none of this. ruclips.net/video/5JO1PsupF_U/видео.html shows Fields making NFL-ready throws hitting covered receivers in stride without throwing up Pretty Spirals. He launches low-flying nissiles that get to & hit their targets faster than any other QB's passes, possibly in the history of the game. He set accuracy *records!* Despite the fact that this stat measure how much receivers _DON'T_ have to move to adjust to his throws, people dismiss this saying "his receivers carried him." When he led the Bears to average 31 points per game & the team lost 3 of those games in a row people said "this just proves that _Fields_ can't win games." They blamed him for the defense. & now with his former OC & HC proving themselves inept people still insist he sucks even though he still launches those insanely accurate passes as we saw weeks 2 & 3 this year - before Arthur Smith did that thing where he makes the offense less efficient & once again, Fields got blamed. The poor guy just can't win.
I really cannot listen to your pod. For these reasons, you said his years in Denver is what discouraged you. l.ast year. Russell Wilson threw for 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and was in the top 5 in the league in A. Variety of categories for quarterback. And won 6 straight games with Denver, so I have to now question you when you are giving your critique. If you said he had a terrible year last year, your judgment is way off thumbs down 👎🏽
Agreed. Kurt Warner also has a Podcast and he was criticizing the way Russ was THINKING?? Warner does have a history of being a top tier QB but I never heard he was a mind reader. Colt doesn’t know the calls or the personnel to be able to criticize that play/interception. Not exactly top tier.
Lmao superbowl, they run the same play put 44 points think that's winning football sure until the teams figure it out than what, the steelers will win one game in these final 5 probably get help to get in the playoffs and than get smacked right out 1 playoff game it is their a jeckel and hyde identity. I think this team under tomlin will always win games when it doesn't matter and get demolished in games do or lose to teams we should beat . I have no faith under tomlin this team will ever see a superbowl, 0 chance
Its pretty obvious at this point that Russ can in fact see the middle of the field.
@eronmiller9900 at this point?
Now after two super bowls?
My glorious kings Matt Canada and Kenny pickle saw the middle of the field better than anyone 🥰🥰

These next few game finna be a great test for playoff football.
Big Ben said they should have kept number 2 as QB instead.

Truth, Russ is MVP
It would be a different Steelers team without him
For the Oilgorithm

Sometimes its about execution and it never hurts to play the worst scoring defense in football.....just an opinion 😅
Is this more a product of the bengals defense being ass?
Ya I think there was 2 or more guys open every play. Pickens was acting like an idiot so they threw to others more

So big ben is 42 and too old to play and Russ is 35 so won't last too much longer.
True , but Ben’s game was based on athleticism. When he lost that, he was bad. Ben couldn’t read defense as well as Russ does .
The problem with Ben was after that elbow surgery he lost all arm strength and he was a statue in the pocket
