Love the center console thing. Put your scale divorce papers in there
There's even a scale Yeti cup in the spare parts bag
Truth. I think there is an empty wallet next to those papers. But it could just be the useless leather flap i carry around for no reason....
Ohh snap
It's 11am for me and you sir have already won the internet today. Such a good comment 😂
Thanks for the laugh 😂
Tip on installing the body: flip the truck over. Instead of thinking of it as installing the body on the chassis, think of it as installing the chassis on the body. Just flip it over and lower the chassis down onto the body. So much easier. This works for all crawlers with hidden body mounts. Only rigs it doesn't work well on is doll house trucks loaded with scale accessories, but for the CJ, JLU, JT, etc., it makes it much easier.
Yeah I learned this with the JLU. Great tip.
yep, I have the JLU and the Early Bronco, that really helps. You get better with practice too.
@@blastarrow5938You're right about the getting better with practice, but my hands just decide they don't want to grab those damn little clips even with the extra tabs some days. Damn carpal tunnel and early onset arthritis suuuuck for stuff like this. I've taken to keeping a small set of needlenose pliers in my pocket kit just in case I need to get the body off quickly.
Saving my allowance for one. That said, here in Japan, my friends and I crawl on Saturday mornings. That means Friday night is prep time; battery charging and installation. It keeps us out of bars and we can still have beers while tweeking and prepping. Like most folks, we bring more than we can run vehicles to our site (3 hours or so because we're old and have wives who allow us this time before chores). Set up time don't mean squat! Great review!
I appreciate that you demonstrated at least a little of the higher speed driving. Nobody seems to do that (maybe because its difficult to film)
Now we just need a TJ and we need the CJ and TJ in a 24th scale.
This is a Damn good looking Scale Truck, and I am not a jeep fan at all. Axial killed it on this RTR.
Scx6 CJ would be awesome.
This will fly off the shelf!! It looks like my built TJ, fenders, armor, and cage.
I think many will feel similar. It will definitely be popular.
Badass, 10 years late but awesome, now maybe a scrambler body to boot
That's a nice one, kudos to Axial 👍
Let’s go!
Axial nailed it. Looks incredible and actually makes me want a 10.3.
Look closer. And you’ll notice
My very first vehicle was a 1978 CJ7. It didn't make me the coolest kid in the high school parking lot, but girls loved riding home from school in the summer time with the top and doors off. I really miss that Jeep.
Mine was a 79, sold it 25 years ago. I regret it to this day
@@scottnorton6834 I have two cars I miss dearly. My jeep and my 1972 Chevy Impala 4 door (my second ever car). I'd trade all my cars I have now to have those two back again.
My first car was a 97 TJ and it absolutely was the best for giving those summer rides!
So, if a '78 CJ7 didn't make you coolest kid in your high school, what exactly were the cool kids driving?
@@thecandyman9308 there was a guy that drove a lingenfelter tuned Chevy Tahoe. He was the coolest kid. He also had a Chevy s-10 extended cab with a wall of subwoofers in the extended cab part. Money won the popularity contest, which I didn't have any of that. Lol
Man that’s a looker for sure! Beauty.
I'm excited, just in time for winter in Missouri. It can sit on the bench so I have something to stare at.
MO winter isn’t so bad 😁 Can still get out here and there. I miss MO!
THAT LOOKS AWESOME
The SCX6 version of this better be coming soon
It would be soooooo tall. But would look great!
About time!
Next up, they'll have to make a Scrambler CJ8 version with longer wheelbase.
That I would love.
Now we need a 1/6 version lol
It would be cool on the SCX6 for sure. Although it would be huge!! 😁
@@HarleyDesignsInc I mean I could add another garage onto the house just for RC haha
I want one always had Traxxas High trail Ford couple mini crawler but i want my first axial awesome looking wow impressive
Awesome, a proper looking CJ7, well done!
It looks so good! Great video!
The OG black and green Wraith is the best looking Axial in my opinion
A classic for sure, but I’ll take Jeep hoods over Samurai hoods. 😁😂
Awesome . Buy for sure .
Wow it looks sooooo good
I’m a Toyota guy but this looks so good, I’m getting my first jeep thing.
Center console could be a good spot for a on and off switch. Awesome looking Jeep. Glad that companies are bringing back the CJ body style. Awesome video Josh
The only on/off switch you need is plugging and unplugging the battery plug!
@@chevyon37s have you seen how difficult it is to take the body on and off?
Deadman switch goes there!❤
Excellent reveiw Josh. You def pointed out some things others didn't catch. Good looking rig.
Nice looking rig
It is on my wishlist
This has to be the best from factory looking crawler ever released, is on my to buy List for sure
Such a cool rig. My YJ has most of the same mods!!! So much fun to drive and wheel!!!🤘🤘🤘
Nice. Would have liked to see it come with a highline hood/tube fenders to match those clearanced rear fenders.
This looks super nice & so realistic. Nice work Axial 👏
Now we get see all the comments whining about this being a Jeep.
Being a Chevy enthusiast I like a straight axle Jeep CJ7 axial nailed this platform it's versatility to change the motor cover to an LS style heatsink cover has me intrigued, great review Josh you pointed out things I'd notice butt overall this is a great platform, nice spot you have to make video's lot's of obstacles, great video thanks for sharing 😉👍
Mine !!!
Just awesome! Suspension tuning and it is a winner on the trails.
Definitely needs lowered and firmed up
Putting the body back on reminds me of my Traxxas Defender body brutal
I have the other CJ7 that came out, it’s a shelf queen. I’ve been waiting for this for some time. I had two 1980 CJ7s, now I can get one again.
First release in some time I am going to have to pull the trigger on. Well done Axial!
Nice truck. Great video
This running footage must be the rc'ing you had to do after worked you spoke of during the live stream. Lol
You guys need to do another collab build-off except with 1/24 scale and centered towards performance!!
Great vid!
Nice . The color looks really good on this one .
I’m pretty pleased with the grey option myself.
Just sand down inner fender flares a little bit so it fits better?
Already ordered. I've kinda of got a thing for Jeeps. Especially old Jeep. RocHobby did the same thing around this time last year to me! Keep these great videos coming!
Yes the gladiator body is a pain in the ass to get back on right. But this cj7 is awesome. I will deal with the issues I guess.
Great review and an excellent rig. I’m smitten.
So sick. I want one. Get me off my bum and making videos again. STOKED!!!!!!!
Oh my Fricken word magnum. I have to have this. Born 81’ these are the jeeps I’m used to, absolute favorite is a CJ. Brilliant!!!
Love the details. The Gladiator body took some getting used to, but as I sit it down, I pull the fender out to clear the inner fenders. Can you do a video on changing the wheelbase? It would help us save time figuring out what needs to change and how much.
Another epic video😊. Damn.... now I want another RC.
I never even thought about needing a jeep but this one is very good looking think i might have to get one thanks josh have a great Christmas 🎉❤
I can see you cutting out the bed cover and 3D printing a large Pelican case/trunk as a battery holder - then you could leave the body in place!
Was the drag brake off? 14:37 Is it configurable? Thanks
It reminds me alot of the scx10.3 bronco with the exposed cage and opening doors
I need to say the driving vid. was excellent and very impressive. It gave a very good example of the driving capabilities of the jeep. Cu does to you. I really enjoy your content.
The CJ7 Body does look very sweet and eye candy for the scale lovers from an RTR and definitely the hook. The mounting system does make it a big ? if it becomes available as a body set or parts option at Horizon. I'm sure there are Jeep fans who can make the jump to another chassis happen. Fun to see what you and Matt do with these in the potential build off promotion, looking forward to it.
Clear Body and Parts are available on Tower Hobby for $179 minus inner fenders
I absolutely love the body and tires on this one!
But dang I’m finding it hard to get excited about getting one at $500 for a rig where I’m going to spend that much just putting new wheels and electronics in it as soon as I get it.
First, I just realized I watch your videos all the time and haven't been subscribed. Done.
Second, great video as always. Great looking CJ. The scale details are great. Looks like it handles pretty well too. Can't wait to see what people do to improve this vehicle. Personally a silent esc/motor combo and a good engine sound simulator would be my first upgrades
Agree with all you witness josh. Does look amazing that it deserves a driver.
The early bronco has the same issue with getting the body mounted back on.
Rite in time. I need a new Axial...the red one 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
First thing I thought was that cage looks genright
I’m just surprised it’s not more branded as such.
@HarleyDesignsInc from the looks of Matt's video they branded the red one genright
It is a very good looking rig
Man
I wonder if we'll see an scx6 version which will be a dream
I may have to buy just the body for my current jl
You need to make the Daisy Duke Jeep build with Daisy herself behind the wheel.
I like it!!!!! 💯
Seems on par with my 10-3 early bronco as to being a pain to take on and off. Looks amazing. As with my bronco I figure this will be more show than go without swapping to shorter shocks and adding some brass or aluminum to the axles. Glad to see a two door open top jeep from my childhood other than the mashigan.
On my early Bronco I used a long bolt and mounted the shocks through the same hole as the lower links (the way the 10.3 portal does) and it made a big difference without having to change shocks.
Just glad this one has proper round headlights!
I don’t have any Axial rigs yet, but the body mount is reminiscent of RC4WD.
Very nice. I've been wanting to see a CJ7 shell for a long time. I still wish they'd give us a simple, inexpensive lexan version.
Looks like it performs just like the early Bronco. I picked one up earlier this year when they had them on sale. I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance. It's definitely not a crawler out the box, but a great trail/Rock bouncer. Now I'm crossing my fingers Axial releases just the CJ7 body. 🤞🏼
I absolutely love my early bronco. Things a beast.
Nice progression up from the Early Bronco model with straight axles. Wonder if the Axial Rock light for the Bronco will work with this 2n1 esc?
Same ESC/Rx combo that came on the Bronco. Pretty sure that the Axial rock light set just runs off receiver power should work on just about anything.
Holy shit that looks good
WOW! 😮 They nailed it, looks great! Body is beautiful, despite being a pain to take off/reinstall (maybe hide the esc on/off in the center console.). Curious why Matt's has colored lenses and lights? Going to add one of these to the fleet! ✌
Rcpatinaguy is gonna make an epic weathered mismatched paint body with this. Great first look Josh🤙.
The VP Falken WildPeak would look awesome on this. As well as lowering this rig.
Both would definitely be on my list.
I had and love the CJ7, but mostly happy they went with a Oregon license plate, tired of the CA. Plates, plus I live in Oregon. Dam I hope the body is available separately?
Thats cool. Now do a square body long bed Chevy with a full drop-bed.
All my favorite rigs have something in common even though they’re all different from each other… easy battery access most of them have a box in the back I can throw the battery into or have an opening hood or like my brx02 quick latches on the body making it easy to get on and off I haven’t liked any of the recent axials for this reason I hate fiddling with the body it should stay on at all times aside from maintenance
It’s a valid concern and why I brought it up, but it looks good enough for me to deal with it.
@@HarleyDesignsInc it does look good 👍
On my old 10.3 early bronco I melted the nub where the clip goes and made it snap in place instead of clip
Love the look. I'm curious as the body price as well. I'm not an avid crawler and purchased the scxiii Cherokee not knowing I would be happy with the honcho.
I can see a lot of Daisy's jeep from Dukes of Hazzard and a lot of stretched link wide axle 2.2 scale crawlers
That center console seems like the perfect place for a dead man's switch. I was thinking the entire time you were doing the battery install that it doesn't really seem any different from my JLU... And it's only slightly different. The main problem I'm seeing is on my JLU I can flex the body out to turn it on and off if I don't want to remove the battery entirely for a short drive between locations to run it.
I hope they have a sale eventually with this like they did the early broncos
The early broncos didn’t sell well, so unless this suffers from the same thing, I doubt you’ll see the same level of sale.
As a guy who brought the Tamiya “wild willi “ generation one in the 80s and then had the newer release generation two ten years ago I think it’s only appropriate I should have one of these ? With much modification I doubt I can get the long distance wheel stands of the 1980s jeep? Oh well you can’t have everything?
The time it takes to change batteries = that is not an issue.
Nice Shirt and Hat.. I’m sure Axial will appreciate that in their review.. 😂
This looks absolutely great, and will sell like crazy.
Honestly, Josh shouldn't be reviewing the products of competitors. He has a huge conflict of interest. I know of no other company that reviews their direct competitors. He is hyper-critical of others' products, but doesn't show the same criticism of his employer, Vanquish.
We all like Josh. He's a really nice guy, and we enjoy the videos he produces. We can do that AND admit that it's not the best when an employee of Vanquish -or any other company- reviews the products of their direct competitors.
Vanquish has only been a competitor for less than a year though as they always focused on high end kits and upgrades, it is only recently that they offered anything comparable to what axial sells. And josh was doing this long before he worked at vanquish.
I’m an RC enthusiast, I do what I do because of it. These companies know what I do and who I am. They send me these knowing all of these things. Things I say about the products I have direct involvement in are likely different because the things I often feel strongest about are covered in the design. That’s why many people review things.
Should be a kit. But it's ok. That ESC is dudu
Might fit some spare body clips in that console
Yes absolutely the best one soo far.
Dude what a great review! But it’s loud wine sucks!😂
The cage looks like a GR cage too.
It's interesting that people are fawning over how great this body looks, when the TWS CJ7 from last year looked at least as good, if not better. And for what it's worth, putting a battery into that one takes about 30 seconds.
Would love to see some Knight Customs parts to fit this body on a VS4-10 chassis.
Vanquish curry sway bar out back be looking nice.
I think we're seeing the next wraith with this one. I can already see putting some 2.2s on it and widening the stance
Definitely would give it that southern wheeling style
I am impressed, I'm gonna have to dig deeper
I am definitely going to get one of these. I can't wait to see what the aftermarket looks like for these especially when rc4wd starts making bumpers and accessories for it. That is if they do.
I also have a question about the scale of the body, is it a 1/10 scale body or is it more along the 1/7 scale like the early bronco body that they did?
It is closer to 1/7 just like the 10.3 bronco. 1/10 would be tamiya yj sized with around a 9.5" wb and would require an entirely new platform.
