How to Use an Autoclave

- There are a lot of products that need to be sterilized: pharmaceuticals, equipment, solutions, medical waste, and even tattoo needles! We use a device called an Autoclave to sterilize materials in the lab. In today's demonstration, we'll show 2 common applications:
1. Sterilize a solution using slow exhaust.
2. Sterilize and dry some empty glassware using fast exhaust.
You can explore our interactive autoclave for free at www.ncbionetwork.org/educatio....
*Special thanks to Meghan Davis, Toby Mapes, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for making this project possible.
I love and supported the people who making this educational videos 😄😄😄
Autoclaves have come along way since I autoclaved media broth
love educational videos like this helped me alot:)
An autoclave is an expensive medical tool and should be handled properly. If you are in doubt on what to do, always consult the user’s guide.
Thank you for the video. Do you know any FDA or ISO guideline for ussing propperly the autoclave? Thanks.
superb
to the point explanation!!!
Nice job mate!
Thank you very much... it is really a good video to understand the basic mechanism of autoclave... GOD bless you

answer to your question is "yes",
you would use the same procedure but "fast exhaust" one because you are just sterilizing beakers (which are empty glasswares)...
remember... liquid turns solid slowly, so slow exhaust for liquid media's
and .... solid melts fast, so fast exhaust for solid things (i.e. instruments or empty glass wares)

Dr. Ammar
Hello, thank you
very easy for us to explain students
thanks fast and to the point information...
How do you change the length of sterilization time? And about how long does the entire process take (for autoclave to reach the proper temp/pressure, about 15 sterilization, then de-pressurize/cool down)?
Question : the object like an agar bottle - must be kept totally in the steam or just half of them?
ty! This helped a lot
Is vacuum also used?
Cramming for a certification exam tomorrow. Thank you!
Jillian What exam did you take? I hope you passed 🙂
@@captin__7658 hello , are you still here?
Ilyas Jamei yes?

Using autoclave is important when preparing for a surgical procedures. I wonder if it uses more energy than kettle or microwave.
akhan shamenov Yes, an autoclave uses more energy than both. Also most autoclaves are configured to maintain a certain temperature even when not in use so as to make the sterilization process quicker. Even this idle consumption is about the same as a home microwave (1kw or so)
May I know the specifications of this autoclave. Thank you. Planning to buy this kind of autoclave.
Thank yoj for the response
when should I turn off the autoclave? after or before opening the lid once the cycle is done? help please:)
Is this use for retort pack
what if i use slow exhaust to streil empty glass
Important Videos For New Tattoo Artist!
Take Care, Bill Kearney :-)
are you a tattoo artist?
Is there a specific job in a hospital for sterilization using autoclave? I'm currently a nursing student exploring what I may want to specialize in.
You would want to work in a Clinical Laboratory then
thank you for video
how does the pressure clean the inside of the containers? surely some extremophiles type bacteria could live on the inside of the sealed containers
Considering where those extremophiles live, I highly doubt they'll make their way into an autoclave.
i mean on the inside of the bottles being cleaned, their sort-of sealed so i dont know how the pressure can get inside the bottles to be cleaned
Diarmuid Mac Mahon you’re not supposed to completely tighten the lid on bottles when putting them in the autoclave.
is it 121F ? struggling here in Aus
Elouise Gaylard its celsius
Thank u so much 🙏🏻
A good video.
Why not use a universal sterilizer?
شكرا حبيبتي💜❤️
thanks
the embed code doesnt works in powerpoint .pls help
FUNJEE
isnt inhaling the air coming from the autoclave is bad for us
These still can't destroy prions! D:
121 degrees 15psi 15 minutes
121 degrees 15psi 20 minutes
Fun Gee
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Mmmmnn 😊
Escape lento - Líquidos y desechos médicos Escape rápido - Cristalería e instrumentos vacíos
Ugh...never sterilize tattoo needles buddy.
Good.. But don't use music
