It just does not get any better than this. Eric is king. Eric could have down the solo but instead he let Tim do it. That is just the kind of person he is.
Pale comparison to Albert Lee's remarkable Country guitar chickin' pickin' solo on the album and live shows during that era. Lee was the real deal! Clapper, as great of a Blues guitarist as he undeniably is, never honed the chops to play lighting-fast Country guitar licks. That's why he hired Albert Lee as a guitarist during that particular period.

A bit strange how he apparently left the Yardbirds over the too poppy song, "For Your Love," but in the 1980s turned to recording equally simple fluffy stuff, if not more so.

Tim Renwick is lost in this solo, can't find the one, and the band humored by it, except the bassist that's saying wtf? You're crazy if you think it was some sweet solo.....
I didn't want to sound like an ass but.... I agree. His solo hints at some great lines but they are timid and out of time. I've played guitar for over 40 years and in studios and with bands and I listen VERY closely to guitarists and he was just not on time. Late, usually and sounded very timid as if he wasn't quite sure what to do next. Sure, he has more chops than Clapton ever did or will have but his performance of said chops was actually weak, imo. Now, his TONE, otoh, was really nice. That's about the Strattiest tone I've heard in a while. Shame his timing wasn't better.
I've studied Tims playing and style for the better part of 10 years. Tim plays very "scatterbrained". But his timing on this was done on purpose and very meticulously. Listen to some 94 "Learning to fly" bootlegs Tim plays lead on. Same example. Hes a fabulous guitar player.
