DIY Magic Waterproof Sand ~ Hydrophobic Material

All you need to make waterproof sand also known as hydrophobic sand or something to keep germs away is a spray called scotch guard. I used the waterproof spray on sand and it blocked out all water AND oils. Oil is what germs live on so if the oil can't attach to anything then the virus can't attach to anything either. I used regular craft sand since the beach sand probably has a lot more junk in it and isn't as pure and fine. It was tons of fun to play with the magic waterproof sand.
