- This video shows how we refinish a hardwood floor in elapse time. We use what is known as a dust free system, we still cover some things up that maybe sensitive or harder to clean but as you can see the dust is very low. Process:
Rough sanding 40 grit with drum sander
Rough sanding 40 with edger
Filling
Fine sanding with edger 80 grit
Fine sanding 80 with drum sander
DA palm sand with 100
DA Buffer with 120 grit with Bona Power Drive
Water pop (we use denatured alcohol only, no mixes)
Vacuum
Duraseal Stain (custom mix)
1st coat
Buff
2nd coat
Shoe molding
Caulk
Buff
Final coat with t-bar applicator
*This is our process for this room, we understand others do it differently. There are multiple ways and methods to do any trade we just found this to be our best method for this application.

I greatly appreciate your comment. People always ask after we go over the floor once with the drum if it’s ready for stain, they have no clue what it takes to get ready for stain. I respect all craftsman out there, every trade has it’s tricks and knowledge beyond what it looks like from the outside. Thank you again and we will keep them coming as long as we have work through these harder times of uncertainty.
What I thought aswell being a floorer for 8 years now. It’s nice to see others do what I do. It’s a terrible job sometimes but the outcome is nice. Had one of those bona sanders but someone knocked it off it was a great change from polivac.

Wow thanks for the GREAT video we just purchased our second 100+ year old home. Both have hard wood floors that have been treated badly. We are going to restore back to original condition.

It is an art to keeping the cord out of the way. I ran a hummel drum sander for years. Hummel was the best.

The one handed Ringling Brothers lion tamer lash is the technique I use… 98% effective.. every now and then the cord gets stupid though.
@@krakenwoodfloorservicemcma5975 Did you loop the cord over your shoulder? We had a guy demonstrate a new dust system and he said never do that because of electrocution right across the heart area.
He is absolutely correct, not to mention I just don’t like anything close to my neck. I have done it but absolutely try to avoid it.
I work completely alone so I often hook the cord on a door hinge to keep it out of the way. Sometimes if I am in a real tight hallway, I will just run the machine extra slow in one direction and you can’t even see the difference.

Hello, Thanks! we do stain with buffer at times when bigger areas... this was only one small room.

Yep the edger is the one that makes the dust.
Yes that and the palm sander and buffer but we have all of them on vacuums now!

Nice Job! What sandpaper grit do you use for buffing between coats and is there any difference between use Denatured Alcohol and use Just Water, thank guys
Thanks, we use 180 between coats. I use denatured because it flashes faster and can stain same day with no worries
I've not had a problem with using water, and going in an hour later. I know that some methods advocate overnight drying for water treatment, which was one reason I didn't use it much. Then I subbed for a high-end company in my area, and they were water-treating with rags, taking lunch, and coming back to apply the stain. I started using water popping at lot more after that experience. Using the sprayer is a much better technique, though-- I'm still on hands and knees, and I'll look into a sprayer. @@superiorfloorsnc1060

Is that some sort of sanding sealer being sprayed on?
That is denatured alcohol to make the stain take as even as possible, it opens the grain for that reason
What was this spraying step after the sanding? What liquid was it and what is the purpose of it?
That is denatured alcohol and it is meant to open wood grain enough to take stain evenly

In case it is, an interesting video idea would be comparing its effect on the final staining result vs different pre-stain brands and no conditioning at all ;)

Thank you, most sand and finish for us takes 3-4 days. Some people can slap them together in 2-3 but results are not the same. Thanks for watching

Why they staining by hand and not using the buffer and carpet pad 🤔 the coat the floor weird also but good jood guys
Everyone does it how they like, we think its better quality by hand in some situations like this small room. We coat with roller for 2 coats then T bar for final and it turns out smooth and clean everytime.
Sander cords are so damn annoying. It’s like they have a built in magnet that is attracted to the drum.
After our workers sanded our floor they literally damaged the wall, all kinds of dirty hand prints, scratches, holes left on a newly painted wall…

Oh should have mentioned 1st home was built in1920 second home we have was built in 1886.
It would help to at least have words on the screen telling me what you're doing in steps as you go

Did they just put a small trim board on the baseboard to compensate for the lower level? That is nasty workmanship. Do it properly. Take off the baseboards then sand/finish, then re-install baseboards.
