The $700 NERF Sniper... Is it even worth it?

  • Whenever there's a budget option, there's a premium option; and the Sabre M20 is one of the most premium options there is out there. The Construct M20 features a completely obscene overbuilt chassis composed of molded Delrin, Aluminum, and Steel that is pretty much indestructible. With linear bearing rails and a hefty weight, it's a buttery smooth prime that can punch upwards of 280 FPS with the stock configuration, and it has a lot of room to grow. Is it worth it? Probably not, but it does exist and somebody will want it.

Don't buy anything for a while, save up. The Sabre M20 series is something that once you have it, you will never need another one. In ten years, you will go to pick it up and it will fire just as it did when it was new. It won't snap in half because the 3d printing has gone bad, it won't snap the plunger rod because the plastic has degraded. It will just work. It's a high price to pay, but you only pay it once.

Me too, the most expensive blaster I ever paid for was the Prometheus, and I didn't even pay the original debut price, and that's practically a minigun with an insane rate of fire and an a capacity of around 250 rounds. I do admit to buying two, but neither was full price. A $700 nerf gun sounds like someone who either has their own nerf themed youtube channel and has a steady stream of income from that or someone who's rich. There's no way I would even think of paying that much for a nerf gun, that's basicly 80 percent of the cost of the pc I'm posting this comment on. If I were to even consider buying something that shoots foam that costs more than 3 figures it would have to be something even more amazing and over powered than the Prometheus. Something like a Vulcan chain gun but with an fps of at least 120, with a fire rate of at least 3 rounds a second and an ammo capacity of no less than a 200 rounds. Or maybe a giant nerf auto cannon complete with a quad pod firing the old school nerf balls or tennis size foam balls but at Rival standard speeds or greater and a huge magazine reserve. Now that I might actually think about getting. Or maybe a massive cannon with artillery shells filled with 20 or 30 rival balls that just sprays foam everywhere and can hit targets more than a hundred feet away. Or a quad auto cannon, like the old WW2 anti aircraft batteries, that shoots foam darts or rival rounds at high speeds with a high rate of fire and four massive hoppers to feed all four guns simultaneously with the who cannon mounted on a large quad pod. For me to spend that kind of money It would have to be like a piece of artillery, a giant weapon of mass foam destruction not just another high FPS springer. And if I were a rich eccentric who enjoys spending ridiculous amounts of money on frivolous things like the blaster in this video I would just hire an industrial engineer instead and have them design and build one of those conceptual heavy artillery blasters I just described. I mean if I can afford a $700 blaster, I can probably just pay someone to build me a weapon worthy of Mordor!

I'm no material expert, but I work in a CNC shop. We make progressive die-shoes that stamp sheet metal. In the few years I've been here, we have had some Delrin in the shop as an option to cut costs on certain parts. It baffled me that there was a plastic tough enough and wear resistant enough to be used in such a way. I'm pretty sure that is injection molded and it looks thick.

There are a couple of things I'd like to point out from reading the comments on this video.
    1) Durability. I would love to see all these homemade/3d printed/ABS/Polycarbonate blasters that are capable of 350fps that are going to outlast this M20. This will fire at 350FPS with the 18kg spring today, and 350fps in ten years, every time you pick it up with nothing more than occasional lubrication. You can dry fire it all you want, run over it with your car, leave it in the sun, get it filthy... It honestly doesn't matter.
And before anyone mentions the swift, yes it will get near 350fps maxed out, but the shell WILL break in half at the take down points eventually. ABS has it's limits.
    2) keep seeing weird arguments about a real firearm being cheaper. What does that have to do with dart blasting? I'll just kill the argument dead right here. A semi automatic high point pistol can be bought brand new for 190 bucks. That is cheaper than many, many dart blasters. Does it mean that all of them are not worth it? NO.
Real steel firearms are simpler than an Airsoft gas blow back. They are literally a trigger connected by a mechanism to a firing pin that activates a round that has It's own propellant on board. Anything that fires dead projectiles from an onboard power source at high power levels is going to be more complex and difficult to make work well than the majority of firearms. Once you start making them out of high end materials that are billet rather than cast, the price will start going through the roof!
My Sabre M20X has a *billet* stainless steel pusher assembly in it that weighs more than a Hasbro Nerf pistol by itself. There isn't a firearm in existence that requires anything like a piece of billet engineering such as that!
I have three Sabre blasters, as well as having home printed Lynx's, zinc's, bought 3d printed from professional builders, factory worker blasters and nothing comes anywhere near the Sabres, not even close during actual gameplay.

Yes Ma'am, damn near a grand to kill that white claw with them foam baddies! 😂 I might buy one just for the meme!😅😂 Edit: btw it's not steel projectiles unless is steel core armor penetraters. It would be hard cast lead or copper jacketed lead. If you and flux ever in South Central Pa, the boys and I can take ya on a range day!

I shoot my kids with foam blasters, so no, I can't have one. I shot my youngest son in the back with an Ultra 5 once and I felt horrible. Shooting him with one of these would make me a monster, even at extreme range.

I mean, a hi-point pistol is a hundred bucks. There are nerf guns more expensive than that. It's a stupid argument.
Actual firearms are nowhere near as difficult to make as a high end nerf gun, you don't need the motive power for the round in the gun for a start! It's all done by the ammo!

Think of it as a high grade magazine fed air rifle that happens to fire foam darts and you are closer to what the M20 series is. That makes the price easier to swallow. I have an M20X which is the bigger, metal version of this and it can fire a foam dart so hard it almost breaks air rifle laws in the UK.
