-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... - Кино
Ah Eddie is singing too!! Thanks for letting us know in the comments that’s awesome!! 🔥
It's a collaboration kind of like the freedom shack😮
I left you a link to another great song by them below in the comments🔥
You know you’re one of the greatest rock singers of all time when Eddie Vedder is your backing vocalist (also backs up Chris on Say Hello 2 Heaven). Cornell is a freaking LEGEND!
Was waiting for you two to notice.
Pearl Jam was the band. Chris was roommates with their original singer Andrew Wood from the band Mother Love Bone. This album was a tribute to his loss to a drug overdose and Eddie had just joined the band when the album was recorded. He stepped in to help them with this song when they'd stalled in its production.
from Wiki "Hunger Strike" was written by vocalist Chris Cornell. It features a duet between Cornell and vocalist Eddie Vedder. Cornell was having trouble with the vocals at practice, when Vedder stepped in. Cornell later said "he sang half of that song not even knowing that I'd wanted the part to be there and he sang it exactly the way I was thinking about doing it, just instinctively.
Eddie gets no love?!? Dang!! He adds so much to the song. Eddie's baritone with Chris's tenor takes it to the next level.
My thoughts exactly!
im gonna watch in a second...lets see if the boys can go in search of the the key to open the box that holds the Holy "S".
Do they know there's two Kickass Singers!
the whole POINT of the song is the duet!
Eddie is the main singer in this song, come on guys!
HOW DO YOU NOT NOTICE THE OTHER SINGER????! He’s kind of a big deal too.
Eddie's voice is SO distinctive, it's funny to not recognize it... but no fault. We were raised on it.
No love for Eddie? Chris brought the heat, but Eddie brought the soul.
Oh - Chris' got soul all right...the soul of the devil
By you two not mentioning Eddie Vedder, it helps support the claim that this is your first reaction to this song/video. Great, honest reaction guys 👍
So I met a young Eddie Vedder in a Boston bar back in my band days, 1991. He was with all the guys from Pearl Jam, but this was right after Andrew Wood died...so they weren't Pearl Jam yet and nobody knew who Eddie Vedder was yet. I asked him if he knew Cornell because I'd just heard this song, Hunger Strike, and I was blown away by Cornells vocals. He said, yeah I know Chris, he's amazing. Then he told me he sang on this song too. But I was like, yeah, right...this guy, Eddie, whoever he is, is full of shit. Fast forward a few days, I see the video and I'm like, holy shit...that's the guy from bar...he was telling the truth. Funny memory...
Rumor has it that those two guys hung out a little. 😉
I lived in Seattle from 89-97. I saw Chris Cornell and Winona Ryder a couple times, a friend saw early Soundgarden in a club with 50 people. I had a couple people say I liked like Vedder at the time: similar hair do (or lack thereof!) I was always offended: "I'm 7 inches taller than that guy!
Not funny!! Absolutely fantastic story. How fortunate for you to have been at the right place at the right time.
That's awesome.
@@David-iv6je Yeah, Eddie isn't tall. I'm 5'8" and i remember him being a few inches shorter. Very sweet guy though
It's kind of hilarious that Vedder went totally unnoticed.
Made me happy
the last of the grunge bands. pearl jam. my fave.
I’m so baffled that they didn’t realize that there was another vocal.. they thought it was just Chris? I’m so perplexed 😂
Watching the video would have helped with that. Being so familiar with them, I take it for granted that everyone would know that both are singing.
My only complaint about this channel is that they refuse to watch the videos.
I would agree but think they don’t so there reactions won’t get blocked, unless they paused it which they refuse to do, along with a very select few others on RUclips. Some even pause it twice I guess just to kiss even more asses of whoever the copyrights belong to, which is also a very relevant to what this song is about.
To be fair, though, Chris had the range, especially that early on! Similar Grunge cadences too,at times! I'm sure that there's a demo somewhere overdubing both parts. The duet made more sense, considering Eddie was already in the band of what would become, Pearl Jam with the guys...🥲
This is the first ”proffesional” recording Eddie Vedder ever did. He lived with Chris before he got his own place in Seattle when he moved there from like San Diego or something. Eddie needs to be preserved and praised for being the front man that lived through all the hardships. He prevailed and carries the legacy of both Layne and Chris with grace!
Actually Chris lived with Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. Eddie was a surfer/singer in San Diego who was given a three track demo of what would become Pearl Jam by former Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons. He recorded the vocals over it and sent it back to the band. They brought him up for an audition/vibe check. While there he attended rehearsals for this album.
Andrew Wood had been the lead singer for Mother Love Bone, a band featuring Stone Gossard and Jeff Amett. When Andrew OD'd Chris wrote a bunch of stuff in tribute and worked it out with Stone and Jeff, the drummer was Chris's drummer from Soundgarden, Matt Cameron
@@dspressnall ah, you’re right, my bad. 👍🏽
Listening to this, I was thinking about how Eddie has basically become the last front man standing from so many of the bands from that era. He definitely fought his own battles with fame and more, but I wonder how he feels surviving when so many of his contemporaries did not... Especially since they were friends or at least acquaintances over the years.
Say Hello to Heaven is actually the best song on the album. Listen to that one if you want to treat yourself. If you know anyone who has ever been down the dark road of addiction, you can identify with that one.
Pushin Forward Back
I would only argue Wooden Jesus.
@@JoeD0403 Yeah, Pushing Forward Back is my fave on this album as well. One of the best rockers of the 90s IMO.
It's the next one they need to hit, but I personally love "Times Of Trouble", "Call Me A Dog", and "All Night Thing" just as much. Actually the whole album is really underappreciated, it should be regarded among the classic, seminal grunge albums but doesn't get mentioned nearly as much as the usual players.
This
😮 Eddie is singing too guys😮
Eddie is my favorite grunge singer. I think you owe us a Pearl Jam reaction now. Check out Eddie's vocals on "Black" MTV Unplugged (must be this version) is a must for every reaction channel.
To be fair: this was *mostly* an Eddie Vedder(-sung) song, with Chris Cornell singing (mostly) backup vocals.
Temple of the Dog was kind of a Soundgarden/Pearl Jam jam group.
Man. Where's the love for Eddie Vedder?! It's his vocal for the first part of this before Chris comes in with the soaring high vocals.
You have to see the video of this! Of course great Chris and awesome Eddie!RIP Chris!!❤
How did you not recognize Eddie Vedder's voice. He is the lead singer of this song. Chris Cornell is the high-pitched voice accompanying him.
no Eddie is background watch the video. Ed stepped in for a fuller sound, the only song they recorded together and Eddie's first recorded vocal. Ed commented he was very proud of that ~ research
@@dyanyork5027I've seen the video many times. Eddie is lead imo. He sings all the verses. Chris accompanies him imo.
Verse 1: Cornell
Verse 2: Vedder (Cornell backing)
Chorus 1: Vedder / Cornell (call & response)
Absolutely blown away y’all didn’t mention vedder’s contribution
Absolutely a favorite. I love Cornell and Eddie Vedder together.
Most folks don’t realize that all the bands hung out together, and felt zero constraints to performing with each other. Seattle Grunge’s family tree is full of sooo much talent.
Leaving Lollapalooza in 1991, some dude was handing out cassettes of this album. When we got in the car and put it in, we were like "WTF did this dude just hand us!?"
As good as both Chris’ and Eddie’s voices are, the meaning of the lyrics here and the reason Chris even wrote this song is the most important thing. What a sweetheart he was! This song is solely for the fans! He is so angry with the record labels and big music corporations and he feels the fans are getting ripped off by the industry due to album prices and everything that goes along with that. “ I can’t feed off the powerless “ meaning he feels bad about it but at the same time, it’s his career. So he’s torn. He’s going on a “hunger strike” to bring awareness to what’s happening. Great song! RIP Chris. You are surely missed. 😢
Dig on Epstein Island!! These Lyrics are HAUNTING!!! Cornell was murdered along with Chester for exposing it!!!
It was nice to hear Eddie Vedder sticking to his lower register to compliment Chris it works better singing in different registers it just works
Two of my favorite vocalists of all time in this song.
If you listened to the radio to sleep at night in the 90s then you've heard this song 939,018 times.
I was fortunate to see Chris in Audioslave, Soundgarden and solo on his sound book tour twice. Just an incredible artist, singer songwriter and musician who was so talented. R.I.P. Chris Cornell…
Eddie was only there in the studio waiting to see if Pearl Jam would want him, but Vedder said he heard Chris singing this song and (as he said, not being confident enough to even think of doing it in retrospect) jumped in on the lower register for Chris - and that's what they recorded. First time they met.
I just can't understand how you guys can listen to that song and not realize that Eddie Vedder is singing on it, especially after just listening to 10 what a month ago? Sometimes I just shake my head at you guys, my friends😂
Eddie's part is very important in this song. It gives the stable platform for Chris to launch himself from and return to
Eddie is pretty awesome, too! 😉
No one sings like him any more. RIP
Eddie’s voice has a Scottish bagpipe drone to it. He does that timbre in several of his best songs IMO
C'mon guys, throw Eddie some love!
Sound garden / Pearl Jam collaboration. Other lead vocal is Eddie Vedder
Love love love this song. Takes right back to my 20s. God I miss the 90s.
When you say "I miss the 90s," @lisalovemc717, I'll assume you mean "I miss the early 90s grunge era." 🙂
@@MichaelJanes-ki2in well yes I miss most of the grunge music but I also miss the entire 90s in general since I was in my 20s in that decade. Whenever I hear great 90s music, it just makes me miss the 90s.
@@MichaelJanes-ki2in I'm not Lisa but I miss 90s music~!
@@loosilu I've noticed a ton of 1990s fans here on the channel. I'm probably more nostalgic about 70s music but I totally get the emotional pull we get from music from our youth or 20s. "I'm' not Lisa" was a song from the 1970s, by the way (hahahaha, I'm such a wiseass).
@@MichaelJanes-ki2in we have a ton of Gen Xers!
“blow up the outside world”
My favorite vocal
The lower register is Eddie Vedder... first verse is Chris and second verse is Eddie... Then it's Chris singing what is considered backing vocals to Eddie singing I'm going hungry...and then Chris sings it higher.
Say Hello 2 Heaven needs to be next….like…. TOMORROW!
This may be elsewhere in the comments, but Temple of the Dog were basically Pearl Jam (feat. the surviving members of Mother Love Bone). Temple of the Dog was a side project where Cornell had written a tribute album to Mother Love Bone's lead singer / his former roommate Andy Wood after he died from a heroin overdose. The second lead vocal on Hunger Strike was one of the very first things Vedder recorded with his new band mates.
Since we’re talking grunge, can we hit one of the most overlooked bands of that era, Candlebox? “Far Behind” and “You” are both top notch choices.
Far Behind is also about Andrew Wood.
Crap.
@@randyoz9754 SO IS SAY HELLO TO HEAVEN BY TOD AND WOULD BY AIC, the seattle bands we very close to each other,, it was special 💕💕
Two great vocal performances by Eddie and Chris !!!
One of the greatest moments in my life: Double header in Seattle, 1991, Soundgarden opens for Queensryche. UNBELIEVABLE. I live in Washington state, so grunge landed in my lap, and it was AWESOME
Quite simply one of the best, most era-defining songs of the amazing 90’s “grunge” era of music. The mix of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder’s vocal, combined with the music from Stone, Mike, Jeff and Matt, made for a song that took the music world by force. I still get chills today like I did as a teenager when I heard this upon release. THE banger.
Whole album is an absolute masterpiece
Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell vocals 😅
“Say Hello to Heaven” another great track from this band.
The band is Pearl Jam's Mike McCready and Stone Gossard on guitars and Jeff Amment on bass and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) on drums.
I can’t wait till you guys hear “Say Hello 2 Heaven”. Cornell’s vocal will have your jaws on the floor.
Supergroup before they were well known, two awesome voices!
It's been awhile since I've seen both of you with stank face while reacting to the same song, I don't think I've seen that since some of your CCR reactions. 😂😂 RIP Chris Cornell 🙏✌️
Epic. The groups this band evolved into absolutely changed music. HIGHLY recommend Say Hello To Heaven off of this same album, it truly encapsulates Cornell's 4 octave range.
Changed music but literally nothing in rock has changed since the 90's. Prior ever decade music completely shifted. Since the 90's literally nothing new. Same recycled over & over.
They don’t give us glass in insane asylums, Alex. I heard this live with Chris and Eddie at Lollapalooza 1992. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were on the tour. Amazing moment.
Eddies voice is like the rhythm guitar while Chris is the lead guitar (in this song). But, still would’ve been nice to say “yea, there’s Eddie, what a voice “. Question: how often are rhythm guitarists overlooked ?
You've got to watch the video guys.
This is, actually, Eddie Vedder's FIRST pro. recording!
This was recorded BEFORE Pearl Jam did: TEN!
...Ved was in the house and Cornell wasn't nailing the lower register the way he wanted it.
Somebody brought Eddie in and he did a run on it, just with Chris and Cornell was like: "Yep! That's it. Let's go."
Eddie was the only guy who wasn't connected to/friends with Andrew Wood on this album.
The entire Temple Of The Dog album was written & recorded as Chris Cornell's way of: paying tribute to, & trying to (as the saying goes) "deal with" the death of his friend (and, really: the guy who made Seattle 'the next place' -at a time when "grunge," briefly, actually existed, but no-one outside of the NW knew what that word referred to, musically!🤘🤘).
Andrew Wood was lead singer of: Mother Love Bone
(the bones of which, later, became: Pearl Jam) and: Malfunkshun.
...both were much more influenced by 1970s music and glam rock. 🤘🤘
-The reason that people get confused is because: the Temple Of The Dog album wasn't released until YEARS later!
After Pearl Jam and Soundgarden had broken through and become major acts/major draws!
...so: people (as I, myself, am wont to!) tend to "timeline" things according to: time of release.
Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, Down On The Upside. All 3, full albums, you can't go wrong.
Up here in the Pacific Northwest - Grunge is our life.... thanks for listening to our Anthem !
Cornell was a very unique singer that was able to bend his vocals to any type of music. Truly a talent that will be missed.
"I fangirl for Chris Cornell" is very relatable! 😅🤣🤣
Fell in love with this song the minute I heard it. At the time, didn't really recognize the importance of this song, living in the flyover that I'm in. I just knew it was a banger. Vedder and Cornell together is stellar.
I don't think they realized Eddie was in the song. I'm not sure how.
Loved this song from day one of hearing it.
Eddie gets most of the vocals on this song. If you want to hear Cornell sing his ass off, review “Say Hello To Heaven” off this album.
It was because of Temple of the Dog that Eddie joined Pearl Jam. Temple was a short lived supergroup to pay tribute to one of Chris’ friends and roommates. It’s sad that of the grunge era Eddie is the only vocalist still alive. Please hit up Pearl Jam.
EDDIE VEDDER?
This is truly one of my favorite songs from the grunge years. Cornell & Vedder together made a masterpiece.
I met Chris Cornell at a party in Seattle back in 1995 when he was already a huge star... But I won't bore you with the story. He was just a nice guy. Anyway...
His craziest vocal performance is on a Soundgarden tune called SLAVES & BULLDOZERS. Bluesy grunge. The entire Temple of the Dog album is fire. A couple of rockers but mostly ballads of which my favorite is CALL ME A DOG. Then there's all the solo cover songs he performed after Audioslave hung it up. Honestly, he was THE best rock singer of my lifetime so far. Just edging Freddy Mercury and AXL Rose and a guy called Mike Patton from Faith No More. IMO
I'm 69 years old and Chris is the best rock singer of MY life also! Cheers\=/\=/
Call Me a Dog is my fave, too! Whole album fire. I love. All. Chris Cornell.
Chris is definitely the number one vocalist of our time. I’m 51 and have been listening to him since I was 18 and no one compares to him. Freddy and Axel Weren’t even close to his talent. Reach down is a great tune to.
A song that three generations of my family love, and having Chris and Eddie singing together is a treat! Can I request that you react to Call Me A Dog from the Temple of the Dog album. A vocal and lyrical gem by Chris, and the band is great as the song builds. What a voice. RIP Chris.
No Eddie Vedder comments.
Chris Cornell Almost Forgot My Broken Heart❤❤❤
Great reaction! "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is another amazing Temple of the Dog tune. You guys are going to love the 90s.
That song is like being in church on Easter, in the best way possible!
Unbelievable performance from Cornell on this track, perfectly complimented by Vedder. Chefs kiss 🤌
I love all of these guys!
Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam is the lead on here.
the video for this is worth to see Eddie and Chris together
You guys didn't realize that Eddie was singing as well?
It was surprising to me that you two didn't recognize Vedder's infamous voice as its so different from Chris's. Its all good, but i guess i forgot a time where i didn't know it. Heard it since i 7 or 8.
I remember buying this CD and sitting back in my room to listen to it. My parents thought my music was just noise but I knew I was listening to something special. Great album.
Nice to hear some great music the last couple vids from you guys. Keep it up. Damn this song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it
Alex works the saw, Andy works the spreadsheet.
Absolutely amazing album. They did great together
Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder on one track - how classic 90s can it get?
I agree with others. Y’all need to watch the video to see how Chris and Eddie play off each other and who sings which part.
Just a usual day. Eddie hits 2 ranges beautifully. Chris writes the monster riff and hits 47 ranges! No biggie! lol
Chris had a way of just wrestling your very soul to the ground with his vocal abilities...his voice has brought me to tears more than once ...I miss the chit outta him ..and Eddie Vedder his good friend done a very good job on harmonizing with CC ..
Just a damned good tune period.Thanx for posting this heart gripping tune ...😎🥰🫶☮️🕯️🌠loudlove ...
Historical addendum... This happened at the same time that Eddie went to audition for Pearl Jam.
Chris and Chester do a great version of this as well!
Reach Down or Four Walled World.
MUST LISTENS. The whole album is fucking sick. Still rock it as much as I did when it came out.
Monstrous big band from the 90s which you have not touched yet would be Barenaked Ladies. I would go with "Old Apartment," for best vocal performance.
The video is great also. I've seen it 100s of times at this point. Just staring at Chris + Eddie 😂
Eddie Vedder was really the lead vocalist on this song. Chris C came in later and blew the roof off the top end
Chris started the song.
The video is so good! Love this song! Have you done Pearl Jam “Black”? Killer!!!
A little backstory on TOTD. Andrew Wood was the lead singer of a band called Mother Love Bone. He was also Chris's roommate. When he OD'd on H, Jeff Ament (bass) and Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar) recruited a new drummer and lead guitarist Mike McReady, picked up a lead singer named Eddie and Pearl Jam was born. But before Pearl Jam was official, this album was recorded. Cornell and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron joined Ament, Gossard and McReady to form TOTD. Vedder contributed some vocals and the result is what you heard. Cameron later joined PJ in 1998. MLB was THE band in Seattle at the time. They were the band the record companies clamored to sign. You should check them out. I would start with either Stargazer or Chloe Dancer/ Crown of Thorns.
Watch the video you will see how they share the vocals.
I had forgotten about this. Great song.
Eddie! Come on guys!
Watch the video boys.
Chris is incredible in this song. Miss him so much!
love this song so much!
I'm so happy. Just love this cd
