Barbour Bede Wellington Boot Review

  • A review of the Barbour Bede Wellington Boot , a great welly for walking or working. I have owned 3 pairs of the last 10 years, and found them to be very good, although a reinforced inner lining in the vicinity of the heel would be a good addition. The rubber of the newer welly is very flexible and they are very comfy. I walk around 1 hour per week day wearing these.
One down point is that these boots are "not made in UK" despite having "Barbour of South Shields" written all over them. We can assume China?

That's good, must be a bit tricky finding wellies for feet that big.

The oldest ones were made in Serbia. The more recent ones are made in China, just like Hunters, so the quality and durability may not be anything to write home about. I prefer Le Chameau - they last years.

That is interesting to know thanks. I am on Aigles now, they last a lot longer, and made in france, as I imagine your Le Chameau's are. My first pair of Aigles lasted 3 years of 200 days a year use, they cost about 30% more than the tatt now sold by barbour.

@@DorkyThorpy : Le Chameau are made in Morocco, and have been since the 1960s at least. They used to have a second factory in Normandy, but this was shut down by Marwyn, the British "investment" group, when they bought the brand in 2012 and started cost-cutting almost immediately.

NOT Manufactured in UK despite have "Barbour of South-Shields" written all over packaging.

Bede pronounced beeed. As in saint bede of jarrow. Also the factory in South Shields is based on the Bede Industrial Estate .

Thanks very informative. . . . another level of marketing misdirection, as these boots are not made in UK!

@@DorkyThorpy yes the UK factory only produces the high-end wax jackets, it also carries out the repair service where you can have small and major repairs done or have your jacket re waxed. The vast majority of other products are all produced abroad including their entire footwear range, shirts and jumpers etc.

@@guywilloughby3383 I think their stuff, should have the country of manufacture printed clearly on the packaging at least. I have taken advantage of their re-waxing service in the past, a nice option. Buffalo Systems also offer repairs and are made in UK: www.buffalosystems.co.uk/ their "shirts" go great under a barbour on a cold day.

Barbour doesn't make a boot with neoprene lining, these are comparable to Hunter's jersey boots.

    Are they warm

    • @DorkyThorpy
      @DorkyThorpy  4 года назад +2

No. There are uninsulated. Worn with welly boot socks, they are OK in cold weather though, but not for standing around.

How tight are they around the calf? I have big calfs and I'm not sure I could get my leg in them.

    • @DorkyThorpy

They are wider than my Aigles, I have quite a slim calf, and can fit boot socks and trousers in side too. If you have big calf perhaps go for brand with a "gusset". www.jileon.com/ do wellies for super big calf.

Well looking on Welly Boots and Packing I can see no other reference than "of South-Shields" (UK). But no where does it say "Made in England". So not clear really - I have contacted customer services to find out.
