Joined Canberra for her final hand-over month in Belfast, trials, then the Maiden in 1961. Later left her and the sea in late 1963. She had a more varied career than we could have imagined in those early days. When on board, we were never gloomy but Mahler gives the Sydney arrival video a whole different and enchanting atmosphere. Clever choice, thank you.
Yes true, it is rather sombre and melancholy but it is one of Mahler's great masterpieces and I thought rather fitting as the ship is in itself a masterpiece of engineering. Certainly puts it in a different mood to what most cruising passengers would be accustomed to. Thanks for the feedback.
Is wooloomooloo the secondary docks when the main dock by opera house is occupied correct? That's the dock we had to berth at because S s Himalaya was on its final run before being scrapped.

Thanks for the video. I arrived with my family as a toddler on this ship.
Beautiful ship. The most attractive ship I’ve sailed on Looks like a ship, not a block of flats.
Interesting to see her berth at that particular what in sydney opposite the RAN berths in Wooloomooloo.
Loved the video of the old girl. Still miss her today, but the music. Ye gods that puts a downer on things.

Was it missing a lifeboat on port side
Very nice video. Did you record the video yourself?
Yes I did. Up before dawn and dragged 3 house bricks weight of a vhs recorder plus a weighty camera with me.
If it was the 80s I think it might of been 1987 as was on her for part of world cruise aged 17
