New drainage around an old friend's house Part 2 -The insulation

- This time we are with an old friend of mine and his partner to install a new drainage and new building foundation insulation around their newly bought house.
The house is from 1962 and the documentation of water, sewage and electricity is deficient, which is not entirely uncommon in slightly older houses like this.
We start this episode by showing how they sandblast the house foundation, this is done to get rid of the tar so that the foundation can start breathing again.
After that we install the new drainage and the house foundation insulation (www.isodran.se/). We also connect the roof water to the drainage well.
After this, we can start to backfill the material around the house and roughly adjust all surfaces around the house.

hi . I watched your video nice work . and nice to see someone do same what you do. I m working almost 11 years doing same work all the year and still 😊.every thing same except we put fabric between the gravel and normal ground.and the isodran we installed it like bricks way . but 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

It's not so expensive to do. This is more or less the standard when you build a basement in Sweden. You can do a lot of it buy yourself or together with some buddy's as you seen. :D Have a nice day!

I've been a contractor for over 30 years and have been troubleshooting and remedying foundation leaks for near as long...Almost all our houses have basements which brings the building envelope below grade by as much as 10 feet or more...I have never resorted to this level of water control...EVERY issue I had was related to downspout drainage issues or grading... Do a proper grading, make sure the water outlets are far enough away from the house so they are on the downslope, Coat the basement walls and floor with Drylok hydraulic water pressure stopping coatings .....I'm not saying the method used won't prevent infiltration; I'm saying it's overkill...
How did you do with the insulation? This will increase the heat in the basement by 5-7 degrees Celsius during the winter.
@@HedblomSwe That's never been an issue...Anything below grade is naturally insulated by the packed earth...If it's above grade R 38 batts or 1.5 inch rigid work just fine...
But I just said that it rise the indoor temperature with 5-7 degrees?

Love these videos, and to see how good its possible to get with an excavator. Got myself a KX057-4 to do work (of which there's lots once you get to know the equipment) around the farm. Have no formal training, so am learning by doing. But it's great fun though. Curious to know how you mount the camera on your Kubota, is it on the front window, or possibly on the handrail by the door?

I’m dying to know what attachment you use. To tilt the bucket is one thing but to rotate it 360 degrees is a whole different level.

Why didn't you put fabric UNDER the rocks and drain tile so as to prevent it from migrating downward into soil underneath and the under dirt from clogging drain tile? ... isn't round PVC recommended for footer drain to prevent crushing from weight of dirt above...?

The water will run down the "pads" and go through it down to the drain pipes and it also works as insulation, altough they should have removed the old rubber from the concrete since moisture will find it's way there now
@@RandomclipsCrew thanks 😊 we just don't see that particular insulation in the US. Was that rubber or plastic u put on the top that u connected to the house.

Why is insulation needed below surface? Doesn’t the soil against foundation help regulate indoor temperatures?
Yes, but it is not comparable. With this method, you raise the indoor temperature by 5-7 degrees Celsius. You also get rid of the damp basement smell and you prevent possible mold due to moisture in the walls.
