Hang on, aren't youtubers supposed to blame their media team for mistakes and billl the company £25k plus 10% of future profits? Props for trying to correct the situation, few people would. 👍🏻
I'm not a native English speaker and I did get what you were trying to say. Yeah, ok, you did get one or two technical details wrong but that doesn't void the video in its entirety. Keep doing what you do and how you do it.
Remarkedly mature video, impressed by your willingness to concede and own flaws and address them. Strong EQ and honest and frank admissions. Great work and demonstrates integrity. Good effort.
I made a polite note about your comment on Mclaren making good cars with eyes shut (or words to that effect as I read it). We must remember how much effort those guys put into making good cars. It is never easy. They are dedicated, love cars, work hard. But yeah some of the trolls jumping on small details you got wrong and saying you are rubbish because of it and just being abusive.... Reminds me of the MSM - and their "gotchas" whilst ignoring the bigger picture.
The fact that you have the minerals to admit your mistakes makes you that much more reputable. I also took your advice and will hopefully be the owner of an Evora sometime this week!
Your honesty, integrity and openness about your experience as a RUclipsr is great. Everyone makes mistakes and gets things wrong and the good ones are they ones who can admit that. However you’re not doing me any favours by doing content about the feasibility of supercar ownership for mere mortals 😉 Man maths abounds!
It wasn’t just McLaren not being clear, it was all the press going with it too to grab headlines and clicks as you were correct to point out. As for the internet’s response to some of your comments on McLaren the company. That’s just, sadly, how the world seems to be. If you like something someone else doesn’t, or dislike/make valid criticism of something they love then you’re going to be attacked. Fanboys are the scourge of RUclips comments.
You are in a very small category of RUclips car channels that I would actually listen to about car buying advice. You bring an accuracy to your reviews which puts you way ahead of some guy acting bonkers and financing a 911 TS.
I recently started watching these videos where you express yourself in front of the camera in a room, and I honestly thought it would be boring, but I found out how great you are as a person, not just a content creator, people have a tendency to forget that who's behind the camera, is also a human being doing his best to get everything perfect. (already watched all the most popular McLaren stuff about 2 or 3 hours ago).
Do you know why I watch your videos? Because of your honesty. Keep doing what you do, the way you do and end of story. If people don’t like, their problem. And please, keep bashing on companies with poor customer service. It is beyond me that people got used to poor customer service and they still think that is ok. And yes, for the ones who don’t like my comment feel free to press the thumbs down 😃
Admitting that you maybe made a few mistakes, appreciating other people’s opinion and taking ownership........ that will never catch on. Massive respect.
Fair play to holding your hand up. EVERYONE makes mistakes, the big difference is that only some admit it and gain respect as a result. No one (including yourself) has ever doubted their cars and we all hope they go from strength to strength.
When balanced against the body of work that you have provided for our entertainment I really don’t care about any errors that you have inadvertently made. You deserve every success.
You are one of the few youtubers I would love to meet. A genuine, honest, knowledgable guy. I would buy you a pint (or equivalent) if I could. Keep it up James!
Kudos to you for addressing the mistakes you made. I've been a subscriber for a few years, and your honesty is part of what makes you worth watching. You didn't 'lie accidentally' (there's no such thing) - you misinterpreted some things and made a video based in part on those misinterpretations. Having had comments that pointed out (politely or otherwise) where you went wrong, you were prepared to address that. Keep up the good work!
I love your content. It’s different and straight talking. That’s what makes you unique and why I watch. I don’t want to see you hooning around doing donuts and singing the praises of brands. I think you should have far more subscribers but that takes time because it’s not some above mentioned stark raving vlogger. Thanks for the content. 😉
The original thumbnail is a great point, it certainly looked like another "go" at McLaren. Although McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini don't make a cars I desire anymore (I only seem to get excited about cars with a manual gearbox) I personally don't like seeing someone "appear" to try and hurt them.
James never in a minute did I think you were bashing on McLaren in that last video. If anything I thought you were doing the complete opposite. Keep up the great work.
Well done, James. Too often I see people do things wrong and then not take ownership of it and make it right. So well done for being the bigger man and being honest.
Honestly the mistakes were so minor cant believe people were crying over them . I think 99% of your viewers love your content and trust your views and opinions. You will always get a couple that kick up a fuss . Dont worry about all this and keep doing what you do . Your content is great !
Your honesty and candidness is very refreshing. Keep doing what your doing. I for one enjoy your channel and reviews and it has, I am sure, been a source of comfort for many, a year which has been pretty much punctuated by varying degrees of lockdown.
The vast majority of those complaining will never have had the disappointment of owning or even driving a Mclaren nor dealing with their awful dealership network.
In general your videos are a breath of fresh air. No overly excited commentary full of clichés and trying to please the manufacturers who given you the cars rather than your viewers. Until you and other journalists actually drive the new mclaren comments and ideas are only subjective anyway. We are all human and mistakes and opinions is what makes many vidoes feel more real. In hindsight we can all make improvements and you can never make everyone happy all of the time. Keep making vidoes that I thoroughly enjoy and stick to your principles.
Appreciate that you’ve taken the time to make this video. I don’t think it was necessary. The fact that you have done so speaks to the level of accountability you have in your work. (Which is far better than others on RUclips.) Where you weren’t factually challenged, these were small issues. It seems like the audience brought their own biases about McLaren and yourself, more so than it was unbalanced.
THIS is why we watch your channel James. Your cat was the star of the show and I have no idea what you just said about McLaren hahaha. We most certainly appreciate your honesty and, please keep it up because, additional to your snarkiness, is what we love about your videos 👍👍👍
Good luck with your channel going forward, I am always interested in your thoughts and am sure your integrity will see you through the challenges of putting content out there. I think reflecting on failings will be a strength. Keep on keeping on.
I think you point out issues no matter what the brand. Honestly, I do not see you as a McLaren hater and I think you made more positive comments than negative. Good on you addressing the concerns and using this experience to make yourself better but you are one of the most neutral reviewers on the social media. Cheers, Ian
Have to admire someone who holds their hand up. Someone who borrows their mates van to make a video about, and then doesn’t sugar coat his comments on aspect of it which may offend its owner. Fair play. Speak your mind, and hold your hands up when you drop the ball. What more can people ask for?
Haters are usually plebs in old vauxhalls mate. It was an objective, balanced video, stand by your knowledge and opinions, it's why I like your videos!
Top marks James! Maybe you should send this video to McLaren to show how people should take on board criticism, reflect on it and make amends if necessary. Enjoy life's learning curve. Everyday's a school day! Keep up the good work.
I have stuck with this channel for a number of years because whilst I don't always agree with your opinion, it's generally always a fact-based and well-reasoned argument, and opinion is always something we can take or leave. I have moved away from some RUclipsrs because their cosiness with certain manufacturers makes it difficult to determine the impartiality of their views which makes me question what value their channel actually brings to their audience. Others just want to push the limits of how fast they can drive on the road without killing someone. I'm glad you've never entered the former camp and I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing you as a journalist rather than a vlogger and frankly I'd trust your opinion more than some big, well known publications. Without question, you are within a small handful of car journos on RUclips who nail their flag to giving an honest to God review of cars that is fuelled by passion first and underpinned by integrity. Success and £££ is a well-deserved byproduct for years of quality content that we can all access for free!! Cheers Jay!
100% agree with your views on 'clickbait'. I have been accused of a 'clickbait' title unfairly, as I did discuss the topic the title referred to in detail. There are just some people out there that have to be negative, that's the world today and with an open audience like we have on RUclips, we have to on occasion explain any 'mistakes'. Keep up the good work mate!
Good morning all. James , huge respect for making this video. I personally didn't have a problem the way you executed your last video or any of your videos come to think of it. Please keep up the good work. You can't please everyone.
Surprised you took responsibility for your mistakes . Good for you . Have owned a McLaren since 2017 and will buy more . Near perfection is the only description I can make about McLaren .
I've said once before and I'll say it again, James you're a real one. The audience threw the gauntlet and you picked it right up. You're doing a great job bud 👏
This has been refreshingly honest. I've been picking up on some of the McLaren videos you've put up (incl. the ones of your friends issue) and found them to be bloody brilliant videos. As someone who really enjoys cars and will likely never be in a position to get a car such as a McLaren I'm really more interested in the faults of the companies and the cars including the practicalities of driving them. I don't want to hear how amazing the car is, I want the brutal truth, I want to know if they're bad and why and I feel as though your videos hit that note. For me, you toe the line of overpraise and over negativity very well.
I've been watching motoring channels on RUclips for many years now and although I don't watch all your videos ( because the subject or car may not interest me ), I have found your videos to be well balanced and honest as a rule, yes, you may get some facts incorrect but who doesn't, people can choose not to view if they don't like it. In regard to McLaren, if owners cant handle criticism then they just shouldn't watch it, I'm a Lotus owner so over time have had my fair share of comments regarding the brand, water off a ducks back to me. However everyone is entitled to an opinion and its hard to find with car youtubers an honest and open one, in my experience anyway, which is why I enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work James, you're doing just fine.
When I watched the first video I didn’t see you as being down on mclaren. I think you’ve done the right thing saying you got some things wrong. I feel like you are doing a great job
Not sure I fully agree with all your motoring comments in the past. But bloody congratulations on actually taking responsibility for your video’s shortcomings, a rare you tube event. As such, I have now subscribed to your channel. Its taken me a while to adapt to your format. But it is fair, informed and mostly balanced on what, let’s be honest are subjective observations. Keep the videos rolling Well done 👍 Chris
Keep it coming Jay. With all the tech, gizmos, math & physics on the super/car arena, anyone can make a faux pas now & then. Always enjoy your 'real world' approach to the reviews, as opposed to the 'celebrity ' You Tubers dressed in designer clothes & are always in a upper class setting. Stay positive and keep up the good work.
Seriously you have the best voice for car reviews keep it up you do a good job you will go a long way ,future top gear host definitely bigger and better things in the car world for you . You give honest and real world reviews....
Jay, stick at it. I really like and enjoy your style and your content. You and Harry are in a different class from the majority of car RUclipsrs. As you say, you are aiming for journalism. The easy way not to get criticism for mistakes is to avoid saying anything of substance and just give us glamorous looks, waffle and engine noise. You aren't really qualified for the first of those, the second we don't want and the third you give us already. Thanks, Julian
You did a good job on those videos. If anything, it really makes me want a 650s or 570s. Those videos lineup with a ton of other RUclipsrs experiences. It just let you know that if your McLaren dealer near you isn't on their best behavior during your buying process you can just leave, but if it's like the Bristol dealership that you talked about then you might as well buy it.
Hi there Jay, from Sunny South Africa 🇿🇦. No, we don't drive lions to work, but we do have the largest Porsche dealership in the world here (as far as I know), that also owns the largest race track on our continent, so it's not all huts and hunting, but I digress. I think the way you handled this is spot on, and done in an absolutely professional manner. I concur with you in that McLarens are great cars, but the company has issued that should be resolved. Cheers on coming to the fore and being a decent guy about whatever mistakes that were/weren't made. Well done.
No one is perfect all the time. It takes a 'big' man to admit mistakes. Please continue as you are - we, the viewers, should be intelligent enough to decide which of your opinions or information is right and which are wrong - as we do every day when listening to the News on TV or reading newspapers.
For me the most interesting thing about modern McLaren is the business side. And to be fair, you are the only youtuber that talks about that side of McLaren. I want to hear about how McLaren are going to get people into their cars and how they are going to look after those people so they come back and buy more cars from them. So from my point of view, please carry on as you are, we can hear the fluff pieces from other channels.
Well done for admitting you made a mistake but don't beat yourself up over it! We all make mistakes, it's one of the most effective ways to learn something and compared to newspaers and magazines you are a paragon of high quality.
Everybody make mistakes, furthermore when cars companies present their product in a somewhat misleading ways, as you explain in this video. The ones who doesn't make mistakes are the ones who just read the company statement about their product, not trying to catch up with the reality of it, and they are Fkucing boring. Following your chanel from some times now, I never felt that you have a biased rant about McLaren's product, but more often how the "dealers" do not take care of the customers and how they won't fix small issues that in retrospect harm the brand himself. Not taking down the video trying to put it under the rug also show that you are ready to take the criticisms for some inaccuracies and rectify them if necessary. Kudos to you, and thank you for your content (coming from a McLaren owner).
Getting those few techincal details wrong aside (and apologising for it), I don't think there was anything wrong with the narrative. Its not your fault if people took it to be negative. I think it was a very well balanced video and you did state the good and bad. Oh well. Keep doing what you're doing, I love all your videos.
Never been a massive fan on Mclarens (or any super/hypercars for that matter). In my humblest of opinions they’re lumps of fragile and overpriced composites with an engine strapped to them. Only fully useable for 3 days a year and/or posing outside of overpriced and vulgar hotels. Regardless of the subject of the content my respect for Jay has increased 10 fold📈📈📈. We do not see anywhere near enough youtubers giving genuine apologies. So this is a breath of fresh air!
I am so happy that you are kind and honest enouth to admit your mistake. There are so many bigger channels that would never apologisse or take action for making a mistake or in some casse stating there subjective opinion as objective fact. Any way I am so happy that you are honest with you viewers. I wish you the best of luck and plenty of succses.
For me you shouldn’t beat yourself up. You gave your honest view of the fact that you understood at the time. The problem is with RUclips if someone brings out a new product you’ve got to jump on the bandwagon quick to get them the revenue back from RUclips otherwise people lose interest. If you have a look at petrol Ped He had a private viewing of the McLaren with a driving club. Gives a lot more detail about everything on the car. Quality isn’t great but well worth a watch.
Great video, and I liked the guide showing how to get cars from firms....and £25k crazy case about free springs! The car is cute. Your reviews are top gear style, and that was the best most popular show, so keep going. Top gear is now pointless annoying crap....
Love the honesty, too bad the world doesn't have more if it! A friend of mine has two McLarens, had to get rid of one of them because it was nothing but problems The other one seems to be okay so far.👍
Oh hell, I cancelled my Artura order based on that last video ! Only joking. It’s good to see this kind of mea culpa and rare these days. Bite back seems to be the default reaction nowadays and not just on the internet. Keep it up pal
as much as i enjoy your vids, being a cat owner myself, the arrival of florence has put them on a new level,as far as i'm concerned. hope to see more of her in future vids.
Good to see this introspection and humility Jay. For me the issue with the last video was less about what you said and more about the tone in which you said it. It did feel like you were waiting to go in on them and maybe that perception was led by the title and cover image. Much better all round in this one and I look forward to watching your future content
I thought the original video was very balanced. Ok, few small mistakes. If a company wants to hide stuff in the small print, then they run the risk of it being missed, that’s kind of the point... I have a desire to own a McLaren one day, and their reliability record has put me off. It’s on McLaren to rectify this, and with the Artura they’ve made great steps. I’m watching with interest. Don’t change too much. Love your content. 🙂👍🏻
Well done for making this correction. It’s what all proper journalists should do. #Respect I learned from my instructors when I did my advanced bike test that all criticism that’s intended to be constructive should be in praise, criticism, praise form. Charmingly, they called this the sh*t sandwich. All the best.
Good man. Honesty is what we expect and admire on this channel.
Hang on, aren't youtubers supposed to blame their media team for mistakes and billl the company £25k plus 10% of future profits? Props for trying to correct the situation, few people would. 👍🏻

You have aways been honest in your opinion, we all get the specs wrong now and again. they are great cars but let down by some bad dealerships.
This is why I watch you, not many people would own up to this
Seriously you have the best voice for car reviews keep it up you do a good job you will go a long way ,future top gear host definitely bigger and better things in the car world for you . You give honest and real world reviews....
Thankyou Ian, very kind
Jay, stick at it. I really like and enjoy your style and your content. You and Harry are in a different class from the majority of car RUclipsrs. As you say, you are aiming for journalism. The easy way not to get criticism for mistakes is to avoid saying anything of substance and just give us glamorous looks, waffle and engine noise. You aren't really qualified for the first of those, the second we don't want and the third you give us already.
Thanks, Julian
Thank you for caring about your content and the quality of what you produce.
Well done.
We all make mistakes mate takes a good person to admit it don't beat yourself up about it still appreciate your reviews and honesty.
Dogs have owners, Cats have staff. LOL Always enjoy your work, appreciate your honest opinion and super info / knowledge. Thanks
Good on you mate. Thanks for the corrections, and of course for the insightful, interesting , and passionate coverage of the cars we care about.
No one is perfect all the time. It takes a 'big' man to admit mistakes. Please continue as you are - we, the viewers, should be intelligent enough to decide which of your opinions or information is right and which are wrong - as we do every day when listening to the News on TV or reading newspapers.
Much better presentation and outlook. And well done on admitting your mistakes. Best of luck mate.
Good on you. It’s admissions like this that make me believe the other things you’ve said. A Flo sighting is just a bonus. Cheers!
I consider you a trustworthy source of information, which is no small thing.
Well done for admitting you made a mistake but don't beat yourself up over it! We all make mistakes, it's one of the most effective ways to learn something and compared to newspaers and magazines you are a paragon of high quality.
Jay, great honest retraction. That’s the reason I subscribe to you. Down-to-earth, and a genuine journalist. Keep up great work and let’s move on 👍🇬🇧
I wish more people would do this; take ownership for their mistakes. It goes a long way towards putting things right
Everybody make mistakes, furthermore when cars companies present their product in a somewhat misleading ways, as you explain in this video.
Stop apologizing! People are too sensitive! Keep on rocking🤩
“Entitled prick” love it 🤣 love this channel
Glad someone noticed it
Getting those few techincal details wrong aside (and apologising for it), I don't think there was anything wrong with the narrative.
Thanks Andrew
Thumbnails matter - i clicked on this one because of the cat. :) Great video JayEmm. Keep up the good work.
Very very refreshing to see you YT honesty.
Well done for admitting your mistakes. We all make them and always will.
Great video, and I liked the guide showing how to get cars from firms....and £25k crazy case about free springs! The car is cute.
Your reviews are top gear style, and that was the best most popular show, so keep going. Top gear is now pointless annoying crap....
Your helpful to me and my video's, your Cat is playful....
I wish politicians would do this every now and again!! Well done Jay.
Love the honesty, too bad the world doesn't have more if it! A friend of mine has two McLarens, had to get rid of one of them because it was nothing but problems The other one seems to be okay so far.👍
What a nice chap. Love watching your videos 👍🇬🇧
Reason 1320 why this channel is in my top 5 on RUclips👍👍
When I'm sleepy I put this guy on and I almost always fall asleep.
Still when I'm awake I do like his channel.
PS Good luck Mclaren lover.😂
You should have a lot more followers, a most excellent channel.
Keep up the great work and the honest information - not normal in today's world.
Well done for making this correction. It’s what all proper journalists should do. #Respect
I learned from my instructors when I did my advanced bike test that all criticism that’s intended to be constructive should be in praise, criticism, praise form. Charmingly, they called this the sh*t sandwich.
All the best.
Now that’s out the way, can we talk about your Jackie Collins sunglasses?
Fair play for holding your hands up.
Not many would have done it.
Thankyou
