Club sandwiches are damned hard to beat! ( by brisket sandwiches maybe?) I usually have one a week from a shop up the road that makes them nearly perfect. And you eat them by not letting anyone else steal it from you!
No, a club sandwich is basically a bit with another sandwich together. 3 slices of toast. 1 piece of toast, Then you put bacon, lettuce and tomato and mayo, then a other piece of toast, then cheese and any meat you want followed by the 3rd piece of toast.
That bacon is cooked perfectly, and the sandwich looks amazing. Much love from Indiana, USA! That Club Sandwich is a homerun!!! As an American, I approve this message ;)
Classic service is 4 toothpicks along the flat sides of the bread and cut corner to corner so you have 4 triangles of club sandwich to lay out for beautiful presentation of all those layers. Delis and diners almost always serve coleslaw, potato salad or french fries in the middle. This was one of my favorites as a kid because it looked fancy and colorful.
In USA restaurants, the sandwich is cut on the diagonal as you have done, but the cut again on the other diagonal giving you four pieces. Each piece is usually held together with a toothpick or other similar item. To complete the sandwich serve with potato chips (crisps) or French fries and a pickle spear.
I'm glad I scanned the comments first because I was going to say this. Also the toothpicks holding the portions should have the little crinkled pieces of colored cellophane for full authenticity, but I'm not here to split hairs. And yeah, the pickle spear is the perfect palate cleanser after.
Club sandwiches are my favorite! I make them all the time at home. It's always ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato (with salt and pepper), cheddar cheese, and I add onion and mustard and sometimes swiss cheese. It's really tasty on toasted honey wheat bread or toasted sourdough bread. To eat, you just smash it down and go for it. They are normally cut into 4 triangles and a toothpick is stuck into each slice to hold the sandwich together.
A classic club sandwich has ham, turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce and tomato, mayo, salt and pepper. Toast 3 slices of bread this is a double decker sandwich. Slice into 4 sections. Look at the photos on the internet. 😊
That is one beautiful club sandwich!!!! Back in the 50's and 60's there was a regular Sunday newspaper comic strip called Blondie and it was all about a husband and wife, Blondie was the beautiful, smart wife, Dagwood the bumbling husband. Dagwood was famous for his take on the club sandwich and he always kept building it taller and taller till it was more than a foot tall! If you search it out, they actually make a "Dagwood Club" sandwich today......it is a classic!
The reason Americans put cheese on everything is that the government subsidized the dairy industry in the 70s and early 80s causing a large surplus of cheese. They bought up the excess cheese and other dairy products and sent it to food shelves to give to low income families. There was so much cheese that the low income families couldn't eat it fast enough and gave it to everyone. So government branded yellow American cheese was a staple in everyone's homes. Low income or not. Ask anyone who's had it and they will agree it was actually the best cheese around. On the other hand, they also gave out powdered milk, which was almost undrinkable...

Finally you got some good mayonnaise. The fat of the bacon is where all the taste is. And no Mr. H you cannot have too much mayonnaise on a sandwich. Now if you want a killer spread/sauce for fries, seafood or even a good sandwich take and mix 3 part’s Hellman’s with 1/8 part each of Hunts ketchup and French’s yellow mustard. Absolutely delicious.
That's the sauce we used to put on a burger in a restaurant I worked at. It was called sharpie sauce and the burger was called fittingly enough, a sharpie.
Have you tried Dukes? I was Hellmans my whole young life, but when I bought my first jar of Dukes at 25, I have never looked back. Hellmans is fine, but it is for when Dukes is sold out. I just skip making potato salad if I don't have Dukes.

Beautiful sandwich! A traditional American Club sandwich is harm, turkey and bacon with American cheese and Swiss cheese. It's cut into fourths (triangles), served with a pickle spears, classic potato chips or a small bowl of broccoli and cheddar soup or French fries.
Most of the time in the US, you'll find your club sandwich to be turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Also, before serving, the sandwich is sliced into quarters. Fries (chips to you) or potato salad are typical sides.
It's been a long time since I've had a club in a restaurant, but I've never seen cheese on one. It wouldn't bother me I don't think, I've just never seen it.
I'm a BLT kinda guy. But instead of mayonnaise, I use Mircle Whip. I know people will lose their mind about that, but I had a really bad experience with mayonnaise when I was young and its taken almost 40 years for me to be able to stomach it.

Don't listen to the wife w/ regard to mayo. (Unless she's saying MORE not 'easy on' the mayo!) Sorry Mrs. H!
Looks Wonderful! You did a great job. Now please make one more with Ham, Turkey and Swiss cheese. I have eaten hundreds of these since the 1960s. I like my bacon medium crispy, cut the sandwich into 4 corners. 😊
@@Mrhandfriends I cut everything like hamburges, and club sanwhiches into 4ths. It is easier and cleaner to eat. Also, it keeps everything from sliding out. I used to have to bring an extra shirt when I went out with family and friends because the middle of the food would go flying when I took a bite, or the ketchup dispenser would malfuntion and soak me from nose to toes.
What a great job. I, personally, have never used cheese on a club sandwich, or all three meats on the second side, but it's all in what you like the most. For me, I like chicken and the extra bacon together with lettuce on the second side....others, they have to have cheese. Cooking bacon by the pound and keeping it in the fridge in a baggy to reheat in he microwave when needed saves me the cleanup and I have bacon fat to pour off in a jar, and I can make bacon/Dijon dressing with deglazing the pan...great dressing for spinach, boiled egg and bacon salad.
You need toothpicks with plastic flared ends - cut into fours-Some people use thousand island dressing instead of Mayo, Swiss cheese is a must. Pickle and cole slaw on the side-a true club.
Good job guys. The only thing left is split the bacon on the top and bottom so like you said you get bacon right away. Also redo the BLT with that stylebread and toast level.
Yeah worked as a short order cook back in 80's at a bar and grill , first restaurant job. Still remember we made the standard " club " Big seller !! - Toast ,mayo , slice of american swiss, lettuce , tomato , ham , second toast , mayo , slice of cheddar , bacon , turkey , mayo top toast. Cut into diagonal fours , toothpick each of 4 sections. We used the fancy frilled ones. Plate with ruffled chips , pickle
My fav club is a double decker: white bread toasted (3 slices), turkey and ham, with american or cheddar and white american or swiss, and of course, crisp bacon with mayonnaise. Lettuce and tomato.
I like "Club Sandwiches" sometimes from restaurants, other times they aren't as good. It depends on the restaurant; some restaurants toast the bread too much, others use too wet of tomatoes, and others don't use the correct ratio of meats. HOWEVER, when I make them at home they are always amazing. The correct ratio is 2 parts Bacon to 1 part of each other Meat, use Lightly Toasted Sourdough Bread, and Heirloom Tomatoes. THAT BACON IS OVERCOOKED! 4:58
look up a Dagwood Sandwich. The Character Dagwood in the comic Strip Blondie made the ultimate sandwich. There are recipes for Dagwood sandwiches that pile on the toppings!
The club is something you get that you want to fill you up without being heavy or greasy.. a BLT is something light to hold you over.. basically anything after a club is a burger..
With thick sandwiches, I find it helpful to firmly to compress the sandwich. It helps keep the sandwich together when you eat it and more flavorful because all the components are in contact with its immediate neighbors. I think this is essential if you make a sub/grinder/hoagie. The easiest and least messy way to do it is to wrap the sandwich tightly in parchment or wax paper. Without unwrapping, slice the sandwich before eating.
I had suggested that you make a certain salad but removed that post. Let me suggest that you look into some of the beautiful main dish salads we enjoy.
If you have an air fryer, try cooking your streaky bacon in it. The bacon crisps up beautifully & the grease splatter is contained, so clean up is much easier. It's my new favorite way to cook bacon!
Yes, I would have added cheese. I never knew that's what "CLUB" stands for. but whenever I order one from a deli or sub shop its normally turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese. Sometimes if its a chicken cutlet, its the chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo. Now I want one!
I sincerely doubt that is what it stands for. I suspect it relates to the name of the place that popularized it, But however it got its name, for about a five year stretch I had one almost every Sunday around 11am before heading into work.
I think every club sandwich I have ever had has been sliced diagonally into 4 triangles. The triangles each get a toothpick stuck down the center to hold it together. And yes to cheese. Typically Cheddar, Swiss, and Provolone. Yum.
Beautiful Club Sandwich! It looked delicious. One of my favorite sandwiches (Super Bird) is a turkey, bacon, and tomato sandwich with Swiss cheese and a little mayo on sourdough bread, given the grilled cheese treatment (toasted in a pan with butter). You won't regret adding a second slice of Swiss.
My club sandwich- Layer #1 Smoked turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato. Layer #2 Smoked ham, sliced cheddar or American cheese, lettuce, tomato. Of course, buttered toast and mayo.

That was quite a sandwich! I've only seen a turkey club, which I love. Those sandwiches are usually cut diagonally twice, for 4 triangles, to make it easier to eat Nice work!
I just watched your guys video. I’m glad you enjoyed an American sandwich. The way you guys ate. It is the way I have always had it without cheese. Another suggestion for a sandwich. And that is turkey, bacon and avocado, lettuce, tomato Mayo. You can make it with two or three pieces of bread or you can make it on a hoagie or submarine style bread as well. If you make it make a video. Cheers!
The fact that I’ve lived all 33 years of my life in the USA and never heard of this before 😂 we truly do have so many different types of cuisines. And yes, I would add cheese to it 👀
You did great!!! If I may make a suggestion, cut your Club sandwich down the center, vertically, and across the center, horizontally. BUT, before you cut, guess where the center of each quarter is and put a toothpick through it. This will help keep the sandwich together and aid the cutting! And makes presentation easier, too. Keep on Trucking....er...cooking😉
I am sure it has been brought up in prior comments, but one of the best ways of cooking American style bacon is in the oven. I will use a baking/cookie sheet (must have a raised edge to trap the grease). I will use a piece of parchment paper bigger than the sheet to trap all of the grease to make clean up and pouring the excess grease later easier. Preheat the oven to 400°F/205°C. Lay the bacon on the parchment paper/baking sheet with the pieces just touching each other. Do not over-crowd the pieces. Once the oven is at temperature, bake the bacon for 15-40 minutes. Cook time will vary based on the the size of the baking sheet, the number of pieces of bacon, and the thickness of the bacon. When the bacon starts to brown, carefully use a pair of tongs and flip the bacon over so the other side can brown just as evenly. Once the bacon is cooked to your preferred level, remove the sheet from the oven and lay the bacon on a plate or platter with paper towels to wick off the excess grease. As a trick many southerners know, you let the excess bacon grease in the sheet pan cool enough to work safely with and pour the excess cooled grease into a ramekin or other small temperature safe bowl/container. Once fully cooled, the container can be cling wrapped or put inside a plastic zipper bag (Ziplock), and kept in the refrigerator. You now have bacon grease to use in place of oil or butter when cooking on the stove/hob. As long as the grease is kept air tight in the refrigerator, it will keep for about 14 days.
Oh yes, I like a club sandwich. I just ate one a few minutes ago. I would say at least four pieces of bacon per sandwich for moderate sized bread slices. Your construction looks great. I had never heard that "club" is an acronym, so thanks for that.

@@Mrhandfriends Especially for Elana.
That's one stellar looking Club!
Great looking sandwich! Cut into 4 triangles. Add chips and a pickle.
Cheeses isn’t usually a thing on club sandwiches in America, but most restaurants do cut them into 4 pieces, with the fries piled in the middle
I love the apron from Bucee’s! Lots of bacon on a BLT is very important as well as a club sandwich.
❤❤❤❤❤
I love salt & pepper on my tomatoes but I only use Roma tomatoes because they are easier to slice thin and fit on my sandwich better.
I would normally go with just turkey, but all the ingredients on both sides! Well done H's, another perfect video and response!! Keep 'em coming!
Club sandwiches are my go to whenever they are served on the menu. My absolute favorite!!
Good job guys. The only thing left is split the bacon on the top and bottom so like you said you get bacon right away. Also redo the BLT with that stylebread and toast level.
That is a Great look Club! Good job.
I love both sandwiches equally. They are perfect during the summer when it is too hot to eat hot food.
a tomato right from the garden!
I LOVE extra Hellman's too😁😁😁 You guys make a DELICIOUS sandwich!!! You're a beautiful family!!
love club and blts minus the mayo . don't even like butter on my toast . can only eat sandwiches or hamburgers dry
Bread lightly toasted. Looks good
👍🏻 ❤️ 🙏
That was a mighty fine looking sandwich!!!
Perfect club, now I want one.
That’s awesome 🙌 thank you so much for watching ❤️ :)
It's also good to used a think cut grill chicken breast, You could actually season it and cook it in the leftover bacon grease
The bacon was cooked perfectly!
Yes!!!! 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
I also put avocado on my BLTs and on my club sandwiches
Look at ya'll...US smoked bacon...you understood the assignment, LOL!!! Elana has the right idea. I'm not a mayo fan but garlic mayo, YES!!!
lol 😂 ❤
Yeah worked as a short order cook back in 80's at a bar and grill , first restaurant job. Still remember we made the standard " club " Big seller !! - Toast ,mayo , slice of american swiss, lettuce , tomato , ham , second toast , mayo , slice of cheddar , bacon , turkey , mayo top toast. Cut into diagonal fours , toothpick each of 4 sections. We used the fancy frilled ones. Plate with ruffled chips , pickle
Man that looks good!!! Excellent job!!
Thank you my friend ! 🙏 ❤
That sandwich looks FANTASTIC! Love a good Club for lunch. YUM 🤤😋
Americans cut most sandwiches corner-to-corner. Makes it much easier to hold & take those first bites.
My fav club is a double decker: white bread toasted (3 slices), turkey and ham, with american or cheddar and white american or swiss, and of course, crisp bacon with mayonnaise. Lettuce and tomato.
I am literally salivating here. Lol!!! 🤤 it’s been a few months since I’ve had a club sandwich and it’s one of my favorites to order at a diner.
That's what I'm hoping for next.
The club is something you get that you want to fill you up without being heavy or greasy.. a BLT is something light to hold you over.. basically anything after a club is a burger..
Ham, turkey, bacon, and cheese. Mayo, lettuce, and tomato. I don’t like tomato slices so I put onions in mine instead.
Perfect sandwich! Great job!
It is often cut in 4 triangles.
Opening that sandwich brought quite a huge smile on my face! Well done!
Thanks!
Thank you so much David! BLY ❤️
A local bakery also adds a smear of avocado on the bottom layer of their club sandwich. Yum!
I think that's called the "California Club" yum!
Did you know we made a Monte Cristo:

The only thing you missed is normally clubs are cut into four sections on the diagonal. It looks delicious. 👍👍
Awesome 🙌 ❤
@ The idea is to make it easier to eat. ❤️
yes. a toothpick on each side and cut an X from corner to corner to corner.
My club sandwich- Layer #1 Smoked turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato. Layer #2 Smoked ham, sliced cheddar or American cheese, lettuce, tomato. Of course, buttered toast and mayo.
Hellmann's all the way❤❤❤
I agree 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
Mr and Mrs H and your daughter l really enjoy watching your family and cooking videos on you tube channel God bless you all from your friend always Sharon Curry from the United States l really enjoy bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches and l really enjoy club sandwiches too they are all delicious God bless you all 😊😊😊 from Sharon Curry from the United States 😊😊😊
Yes on the cheese...(cheddar AND swiss). No such thing as too much Hellman's or bacon---your sandwich is gorgeous!!!
That is a great looking and proper club sandwich!!!
Turkey club are the best.
Yum ❤ 🤤
Well done Mr H, the club house sandwich is the best. You have done it with perfection.......
Salt pepper a tiny bit of sugar and red wine vinegar really wakes up store bought tomato. Bacon, ham and smoked turkey on the double decker with lettuce tomato and mayo. If it doesn't tear up the roof of your mouth you did it wrong. 😋👍🏼😁
Heck yummy 🤤
That was quite a sandwich! I've only seen a turkey club, which I love. Those sandwiches are usually cut diagonally twice, for 4 triangles, to make it easier to eat Nice work!
of course u can put cheese on it. nothing says u cant
Legend ❤
@@Mrhandfriends u going to come home one day you'll see something sandwich shop lol
Yes, we Americans can be quite flexible about our foods and their creations
@@daveray44 all our foods came from somewhere else and constantly evolve. i think boiling water is the only thing set in stone
Look at that genuine American bacon! You guys always knock it out of the park with your recipes.
IMO a Club sandwich can be anything as long as there are 3 pieces of toast.
And yes, I would add cheese to it 👀
Hahahaha 😂 you absolute legend !! 🧀 👍🏻 ❤
That's absolutely crazy. I have eaten hundreds of them. 😊
Swiss cheese 😊
@@jeffhampton2767 Yessss. Or maybe a provolone slice 🤤
THAT'S the BEST Club sandwich I've EVER seen!❤ You made it PERFECTLY 😊
Awesome!!!!👍🏾
🙌 thank you 🙏 ♥️
You did great!!!
