This is the intro of the very first episode (Cocoon) from the memorable tv series Hawaii Five-O (1968 - 1980). It is slightly different than the official.
A different intro for the pilot episode. No Jack Lord spin, but you do get the face of the hula dancer! Her name was Helen Kuoha-Torco and just her gyrating body was seen in subsequent openings. She has a scene in the pilot that was edited and used for the intros. Kuoha-Torco later appeared in the Hawaii Five-O reboot in two episodes as new characters. She passed away Aug. 10, 2018 at the age of 76.
The tourism boom in Hawaii began with commercial jet aviation and the advent of the boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 in the late 50's early 60's when you could fly to Hawaii from the West coast in comfort and in 5 hours. It was not Hawaii 5-O.
Nancy Kwan, I never knew she was in Hawaii Five-0! It was only a couple of years ago I learned about her career - the movie "Flower Drum Song" I saw of her with Jack Soo (Barney Miller) and James Shigeta (Die Hard) was a really good movie. At the time I watched the movie I only knew of Jack Soo, but I also recognized James Shigata: she was smoking sexy!
One of the best tv theme intros of all time. It was the first time I heard of an exotic place in the world called Hawaii. The Picture quality is pretty good considering they are showing a Hawaii from 54 long years ago it could have been shot yesterday. Also who is the attractive Hawaian lady on the beach in this intro theme she must be in her 80s now if she is alive it was so long ago. She must have been a famous Hawaian lady from the mid to late 1960s.
This is not actually the theme for the show. This is: "Hawaii Five 0 Intro". It was rearranged by Morton Stevens and THAT version is what played every time you watched the show. It was recorded by the CBS Orchestra (West Coast)
Even in the opening for the pilot, Jack Lord gets higher billing than Leonard Freeman. But as James McArthur said, Jack made all the other actors better, although he was not in the pilot. I was 7 when this aired, but the music and video are iconic.
55 years later and it's still the greatest opening theme of all time! Book em Danno !!!

Those waves! Gorgeous. Hawai'i itself was like another star of the show.
It’s just not the same without Jack Lord’s epic turnaround shot.
And camera shot darting up.to the building he's stamding on 😂😂😂
No, but it would’ve been pretty awesome if Lt. Frank Drebin had stayed for the entire series.
Agreed, but this intro is no less glorious.
@@hankhitsahomerun Leslie Nielsen did guest on the series (in a different role).
It’s not the same without the close up shots of the airplane in which is a security issue.
Worthless trivia floating around in my head: The story involved a ship named, 'Arcturus'. Loved the pilot, and the regular season episodes!
Saw this episode just one time. Haven't been able to find a single bootleg copy anywhere. It was a different Hawaii 5-0, for sure.
The TV show that started the tourism boom in Hawaii and made United Airlines a household name.
why United Airlines?
We flew Pan Am all the time to O’ahu in the 60s.

@@Rayburn58 So true
A thrilling rendition of a classic theme, to kick off one of the best pilot films ever! Jack Lord was the perfect choice for the lead.
Leonard Freeman hated him and didn't want him for the part. But it all seemed to work out.
So the character of Wo-Fat was in the first episode. He was McGarret’s arch nemesis and was finally caught in the last episode.

If you're interested James Gregory was also in Barney Miller you might remember he played Detective Luger

Awesome...that really works for the pilot ..

the lady on the beach is Elizabeth Hogue and she’s still alive. Turned 82 a while ago.
Best visuals. The lava, surfboard and King Kamehameha are epic. No hotel balcony turnaround, but so cool.
Leslie Nielsen in the first episode? Awesome.
Remember seeing pilot show when is 12 years old my mother loved that show
Nicely done and a nice alternative to the familiar opening titles. Certainly different; I like it.
Ya, I saw the pilot. It'll never sell. 😁😁😁

This is the best version, strongly so. Epic!!!!
The version on the original ST album- its available on Amazon.
awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 powerful 🎵 🎶 🎵 song
Odd to see Leslie Nielsen's name. I wanted to say, "Frank Drebin was part of Five-O?"
wo fat said it best about Mc Garrett: " you know that guy In a dark alley, that's him. ".
This intro is different, never seen it like this
Best music
Should have used this version
Great intro!

Everything and better (Leslie Nelson) than what they went with for the actual series.
Nah, I loved Dan-o! (James MacArthur, bringing his athletic Swiss Family Robinson hotness back to civilization!) :)
almost forgot; Richard Boone was offered the part, turned it down, Roger Smith the same.
In the "Odd Couple" TV series Oscar Madison's mother stated she had Greek food in Hawaii!
That had to be Greg Noll standing with board and wearing the jail striped shorts
the original will always be the best...
0:08 ENOUGH, REGGIE!
Nice longer piece of music, but it looks more like a travelogue than a cop show.
Jack Lord, a sigma chad that was so chad they had to remove him from playing Felix Leiter cause he was a challenge to Sean Connery
Does anyone know who the individuals World got to close up face shots I've always wondered
Hawaii must of been awesome then.
Less Malahini & haoles...just say’in...

Doesn't work without Jack Lord turning around
727 at the end cant be HNL
Continental Micronesia used them.
Well, am certainly glad THAT introduction wasn't used. Boring 😴.
