When I lived in Taiwan, I fished many lakes, rivers, and ponds that supported healthy populations of snakehead (giant, striped, blotched species) and bass. Both seemed to coexist with very little noticeable negative impact on the other. There are few fish that are more fun to catch on topwater than a giant snakehead.

It is my understanding that the snakehead prefer eating banded killifish and seem to just be becoming part of the ecosystem around here. I’ve also heard the snakehead may be making other fish around them larger because their fry are providing a higher protein food source for other fish species to eat. A lot of people who get mad about you releasing them are running off old information that was hammered into peoples heads when they were first discovered in Maryland. Great video.

"A lot of people who get mad about you releasing them are running off old information that was hammered into peoples heads when they were first discovered in Maryland. " It's literally illegal to release them in majority of the country. The DNR says they're invasive and they know more about these fish than you do. Stop being ignorant.

On the other hand there is no evidence to support snakeheads have disrupted the enviroments they are in. Snakeheads do not force out other fish, and their young provides an additional food sorce for other fish, not to mention the adults are preyed upon by many different birds and mammals.
