They’ve been in the Potomac for over 2 decades and bass fishing is just as good as it was 20 years ago…
When I lived in Taiwan, I fished many lakes, rivers, and ponds that supported healthy populations of snakehead (giant, striped, blotched species) and bass. Both seemed to coexist with very little noticeable negative impact on the other. There are few fish that are more fun to catch on topwater than a giant snakehead.

It is my understanding that the snakehead prefer eating banded killifish and seem to just be becoming part of the ecosystem around here. I’ve also heard the snakehead may be making other fish around them larger because their fry are providing a higher protein food source for other fish species to eat. A lot of people who get mad about you releasing them are running off old information that was hammered into peoples heads when they were first discovered in Maryland. Great video.

" It's literally illegal to release them in majority of the country. The DNR says they're invasive and they know more about these fish than you do. Stop being ignorant.

you've never seen ferocious until you've gone after Bullseye Snakehead in South Florida. I just got back from it about 2 weeks ago and bass fishing will never the same for me.

I still can't believe how many people say snakeheads will damage ecosystems when they don't even live anywhere near MD😅i catch bass right next to snakehead even in small ponds. I’ve caught some giant snakeheads in the back of mattawowan while practicing for tournaments. They love frogs more than anything
Lol i think the bass themselves seem to be controlling that snakehead population. They slurp up those soft finned juvenile snakehead like candy.
About 5 years ago .Pennsylvania Fish and Game posted warning signs about the Snakehead. I fish Western Pa. ,and have yet to hear of anyone catching one. Possibly water temps are too low.
If you retrieve a wake bait super fast it will get under the water 2-3 inches, it'll get bit alot on the right day, it's also a weedless crank bait.

Caught my first Snake head tonight at a pond here in Harford County MD. Also caught a large mouth and saw 3 koi and plenty of blue gills, large and small. All in a small pond.

Now y'all know what the air has tasted like on the west coast 7 of the last 10 years. Bass probably are feeding in the sun break in the smoke.
If you look into the hatchery vs wild salmon problem up here you can learn some crazy stuff about environmental pressure on fish stocks.

bass are more adaptive, except for flood/dry cycles. the bass can move out of the swamps into open water, when snakes can hang out in mud for a long time eating frogs and things.. the bass need to move out to open water for bait ball chasing behavior.

Been targeting snakes for 4-5 years I catch more bass right next to snakehead every time I go out , they absolutely live fine together these fish have been here 20+ years

Years ago chain pickerel were invasive and everyone was freaking out just like with snakeheads. Now pickerel are an after thought and accepted

you should try fishing the walking fish pond in crofton, I’ve gave it a go and caught 1 bass, I’ve heard the frog never fails there
snakehead is the major target of fresh water lure fishing here in Malaysia, we would not grab snakehead like this to unhook it as it can easily wiggle back with the lure and hook ur hand
I fish the Potomac creek and Aquila creek and to be honest I haven’t seen any impact on bass fishing. It is fun catching them.

I catch snakeheads in NJ and the only fish they have effected are the pickeral. The bass literally destroy the baby and juvenile snakeheads
Even an evasive species like that had it's place. Little guy was just too small. Lot of plates have been filled by them guys. Plus I'm guessing if the big ones are kept down by bow hunting then the small ones might even be an extra food source for big bass. 👍😄

Took my first trip to maryland a fee weeks ago to fish blackwater. Caught 2 snakehead the biggest was 28 inches. Honestly one of the coolest fish ive eve caught and im dying to go back to catch some more
John Odenkirk a biologist in VA said that the bass population in every area he has surveyed has been as good as they ever have since snakeheads showed up. We see it in the upper bay as well. We were lied to about these fish and its the biggest reason I release every one. Snakeheads are the best thing to happen to this region.

@dietmilk2676 except there is evidence to support lionfish disrupt the environment, the bully other fish out of habitat, and few things can eat them because of their venom. On the other hand there is no evidence to support snakeheads have disrupted the enviroments they are in. Snakeheads do not force out other fish, and their young provides an additional food sorce for other fish, not to mention the adults are preyed upon by many different birds and mammals. You can't compare these fish to lionfish because its like comparing apples and oranges.

Well I’m my experience, I used to fish at a pond that wasn’t very good for bass fishing in the first place just because they hardly bit anything but you would still see nice size bass swimming by and after not fishing there for over a year or 2 it’s been infested with snakeheads and I will still see bass but much smaller ones like barley catchable and I’ve only been once since but it seemed to me like the the bass are having a tough time competing with the snakeheads and not growing to there full potential

They're saying NOW that you kill them. They're super invasive and can spawn SEVERAL times a year. Don't release, just kill. It will ruin fishing.

I've yet to catch a snakehead in their known habitats yet I have no problem catching bass, crappie, and sunfish. No predator will ever eat all their prey because then they will starve. Simply just how nature works.
