You've been my #1 source for all things MHG, and I've gotten so much better at not only playing the game, but understanding the game as well. Gotta show my support somehow :)
Trying to scout a pair of tag-along palicos to bring along as buds. Going for Guard cat with as much def and support skills as possible, like ALL the Horn skills (-True Health, Herb, & Cheer Horn), Parting Gift, Chestnuts and Shock Tripper and maaybe Sumo Stomp (just for theme), and a Healing cat with also ALL the Horns (-Herb, Armor, and Demon Horn), Parting Gift, Vase of Vitality, and Go-Fight-Win! Basically the slight difference of one to draw agro and have def passives and other to use ALL the skills, ALL the time. You'll never die!
monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MHGen:_Palico_Skills Gona throw this is as it's pretty much a sheet for people wanting to look at a fast reference. It also includes the passive skills!
There are some extra effects on some skills. Emergency retreat - also heals any status, blights and even virus. You are invincible from the moment you activate the skill. Ultrasonic Horn - also scares little monsters you hit off the map (if the usual sonic bomb has the same effect then its my bad) According to motion values it's not really worth to charge a boomerang and it's better to just spam them. However, boomerang pro also speeds up non-charged boomerang spam.
Maybe it's just the sheer NUMBER of shells you can fire in a single activation of the Meowzer Tank, but in my experience it WRECKS monsters (despite the low motion values you're claiming per individual shot) and it flinches them VERY easily,, especially if you're nailing them in the face. Great way to knock them out of the air mid-flight or mid-jump, too. It also has a weak little dash attack you can do with the dodge button, but that's more for pushing your way past monsters that are blocking your movement than it is causing damage. Also, a side benefit to Soothing Roll is if you hit X at any point during, you'll exit the roll directly into the jumping somersault attack that finishes off the prowler's X combo. So ideally, you'll use this move to shed a bad status ailment, then roll your way directly under a monster's vulnerable spot and let them have it (right under their chin is best, if using an impact weapon.
Important to note that during Emergency Retreat, much like normal burrow, if a monster roars it will Sonic Bomb you out of the ground. Some monsters combo with rage roars into hits, like Rathalos so know your matchups!
emergency retreat does not make you completely invulneral, the alatreon can hit you underground when in theair doing the down thunder sweeps, or attacks the hit the grong like the uragaan shin smash, there might be other moves too, and aparantly youll get hit harder.
I forget that Shagaru is an elder dragon sometimes to be honest. I mean let's be real: he's pretty much a clone of Gore (which is cappable, and not an elder) when it hits frenzy, and he only gives 3 carves instead of 4 like every other elder (save for Kirin, but that piece of shit is hardly an elder dragon either). Hell, the village one doesn't even award you with Elder Dragon Bones (yet the Hunter's Hub one does. Which is fucking stupid), or even Elder Dragon Blood if I remember correctly.
+RandomNPC same, so many traps brought just for me to realize 30 seconds in that its an elder and I just brought traps instead of demon drug and armor skin
On an extra note, the sonic horn will also make all smaller monsters in the area your in run away for quite a bit of time, very nice for clearing annoying enemies for fighting or gathering.
Hey gaijin hunter , not sure if you realize this or not, but mega boomerang is actually meant to be used full contact with the monster. While spinning the mega boomerang does multiple hits (its hard to count the last few because theyreso rapid, but definitely 10+ hits if used correctly), like 90% of the time I use it correctly I break a part. It also has a large area of attack, I used it on a duramboros while it was standing and broke its hump. Might want to look into it.
I think Sumo Stomp can do stun damage as well. Not a significant amount as far as I can tell, but having used it on a downed monster's head, the little stun-hit effects do show up. I'm also pretty sure I've broken a Drome's head with it as well.
For Vase of Vitality, I think it's important that blight is included in the status ailments. So if you're fighting a Snowbaron, walking over it will remove ice blight, plus the snowman status too.
Might want to change the title to be "All 45 Prowler Support Moves" since I incorrectly assumed the video was going to be about the actual Palico skills (the ones that use memory), not support moves :) And another thing, Cheer Horn is an instant boost to Hunter Arts/Support Gauge (not an increase), while Palico Rally also raises Defense
Vase of Vitality boost natural recovery, and removes Blights. It can be reapplied, so long as the vase is still present, but does not remove things like poison.
For the retreat skill you should also mention that it cures fire, and poison as well as slime, (basically I think it cures every blight/status that you can use the skill while having, so paralysis and Tremor I don't think get negated)
Might have wanted to mention that some moves require you to be in fury mode to activate, but overall I love that you're helping the community learning about prowlers ^_^ I actually main prowler myself and have tried different sets. If you'd like me to post some sets, just let me know!
Just letting you know that with Soothing Roll if you approach a monster you can end the roll by pressing X which does a spinning attack just like the basic triple X combo
honestly, I rarely hear people call moves as moves everyone just seems to refer to all abilities, passive or otherwise, as skills... usually referring to the skill or move involved by name
There just seems to be so much more depth to training palicos in this game. Are there plans for a general tutorial video for all the various cat-related systems in the game? I've been trying to dive into all of them a bit but I always feel like I might be missing something or wasting my time doing something sub-optimal.
I love the ultrasonic horn, It makes smaller monsters leave the area, some large monsters with sensitive ears will be stunned by it and certain monsters like the nargacuga will be enraged by it
So, I have slain a lot of the monsters on the list, but I haven't unlocked the skills for some? Like, I have killed a lodrome about 3 or 4 times as a healer, and I don't have a detox horn? Is it because I am doing it via hub quests?
Huh, everything I had been reading said that there was no difference in gain between putting up big or piercing boomerangs first. Guess I'll have to test it myself... Question about shock tripper, though - the skill description ("shoots out a Stagger Beetle which emits a field that makes it easier to knock down foes") makes it sound like it boosts the effects of attacks done while the monster is within the field. So instead it's just a high break damage area effect?
Like Soothe roll as so far i've noticed during the jump animation you are also invincible. Could be just luck though but happened many times so who knows. The thing i like as well is that when pressing X you immediatly use the final X attack where you do a jumping spinning attack. Would say it is a nice option if you don't have acces to the Emergency Retreat or just want to do some extra damage after rolling back to the monster
Hey, do you know if theres a updated list with the new moves and motion values for MHGU? I can't seem to find anything about it. Or a Guide on Beast Prowler or something.
It would be lovely to see what passives affect which skills (specifically which abilities do pro trapper and pro bomber affect), along with what Counter and Support boost do on palicos (their description seems incredibly vague.)
btw sonic horn is better than he thinks, it also makes all the small monsters in the area leave, so its really good on prowler and palico (well unless you do a small monster hunt quest i guess)
I have here THE ultimate assist prowler, but I didn't understand that chart in the other video about the moves/skills you can have all at once, so idk if it's possible, but: Support Moves: Emergency Retreat Big Boomerangs Piercing Boomerangs (taught) Shock Purr-ison Poison Purr-ison Dung Bomb Skills: Earplugs Boomerang Boost/Up/Pro Attack/Defense Up (L) either is fine Affinity Boost (L) (This before AuL) Pro Trapper This is all of what I gathered from all (6?) of your videos on Prowlers. 'Could someone check if this is possible?
The sumo stomp does K.O. damage. Excavator only costs 1 point. Shogun hermitaur? I think it's shogun ceanataur. The cheer horn doesn't help filling the gauge faster, it fills it the moment it's used. Palico rally works on palicoes, not on hunters.
A bit confused on the bombing motion values explanation. Does the motion value use the prowlers/palico's weapon like the typical motion calculations? If so does it use the melee or ranged value?
Also just in case you weren't aware (I feel bad that you are tired thank you for these videos!) Chestnut Cannon also says to fight Arzuros to get it, rather than Urgaan, I think it was?
Mega Boomerang hits many times before throwing and many times while in the air. I know because I shaved a Mitzu from tail to head on a returning mega boom that I missed first(if I remember correctly)
I think sumo stomp causes some KO damage, or it was just a coincidence (was in a party). Also i've seen the auto guard work with Taunt, I was fighting a Dead Eye Garuga and it hit me during the taunt animation and my cat blocked both hits on its own.
I have the Rath-a-meow and it’s so fun to use. I use it for whenever I’m low on health or when the monsters enraged (or both) to abuse those invincibility frames and to do damage
Wait, is mega boomerang different in the MHX compared to MHGen or something? Because in my game (MHGen) it does not work like the big and pierce boomerangs at all, and more like a one use move like Chestnut Cannon. Basically, your cat grabs a boomerang which poofs into being gigantic, and then spins around and around until after a few seconds they hurl it at the monster. Since it is so big and heavy, it takes a few seconds to go out as far as it can go and then back, so you will want to have a big opening to use it, though it is pretty powerful. Plus, it is really good at knocking monsters over, but since it acts like a piercing boomerang would, it is best used on a large monster.
I think that this hunter art i made up for dual blades would be awesome if capcom decides to keep hunter arts.I call it million blades and it would be where you would have to land a hit with a motion value of 1. Now it would seem completely redundant but if you land it for 120 seconds the slash would do five one motion value hits per second. tier 2 would have 180 seconds and tier 3 would be 200 with 6 1 motion value hits per second.
vase of vitality DOES work like the hunter's oasis wherein it'll stay active for a set amount of time in the area & should you ever be afflicted with a status, you can run into it's AOE & get it's benefit. of course you won't get the benefit over & over if you don't have any status.
Question about the prowler skills and support skills: Can a Prowler only be one move? I've been trying to teach my fighting cat earplugs, but it prompts me to get rid of a previously taught skill. Just wanted to confirm.
i can only seem to give my fighter palicoes a support move from the dojo. there is only one slot and is being used for big boomerangs. is there a way to learn more support move slots? i really need emergency retreat
Basically you'll never teach a palico Big Boomerang. It's okay for your first prowler, but you gotta search for a fighting prowler which has both Piercing and Big Boomerang, so you can teach him emergency retreat. And of course as a passive it must have Boomerang Pro and ideally Earplugs.
Question, as a Prowler main, i'm curious about bomb damage, you said it has motion values too it. Do those motion values use the cat's Melee attack or Ranged attack? I'm considering building a bomb Prowler/Palico for solo play and just having a good ol time.
claw dance look like wolverine claw slash... you will move forward quite a bit towards the end of the animation. Emergency retreat can also heal status like poison , burn too.... anti-monster mine and plus version will send hunters flying... does pro trapper skills stacks with "go fight win" support move effect to lower the cost of shock trap to 2? I am thinking about getting those skills together for my prowler and palico to use for different stages in the hunter hub quest. based on this reddit information: www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/4tfy86/palico_skill_distribution_guide_how_palico_skill/
Hi Gaijin I'm a huge fan of your work :) could you make a video on the fastest way to increase the Hunter Rank after the Narkarkos please ? Thank you :3
Level X hunts. There is especially a special setup which is known to be the speed farming for HR. Take a look at this link, it's well explained /watch?v=iKs_SyURPU4
Ahhh i see, i haven't learned it with the cephadrome quest but i could use on my assist palico very confusing. It's all right now thanks for your time!
26 minutes ago XD Awesome video, this will help me decide what to have on my cats. Also, do cats only have a certain amount of space for skills and abillities? Like, they cant get more by leveling up?
I'd like to note that Camouflage is annoyingly more effective than the Sneak skill paired with a Silencer LBG. It's a great skill if you are playing as a prowler with it, but if you have a Palico with it, prepare to be focused more than you'd expect even if you have Sneak + Silencer LBG.
And as a second note, the Morph Ball Bomb skill from the Samus DLC Palico seems to change the effect of Explosive Roll to where the bombs to as much as the Small Barrel Bombay, instead of the Mini Barrel Bombay, though if anyone can find the exact numbers, people wanting to make a Bomber cat either as a Prowler or a Palico, would likely be appreciative. Not sure if it would be worth using on monsters that aren't in a trap or knocked down though. Though it might be fun to annoy friends with it...
As well as "Testucabra" (Tetsucabra) at 1:42. And the incorrect image for Claw Dance (it shows an image of Felyne Comet) at 1:58. And "Volvidron" (Volvidon) at 11:37. And the approximately fifteen mistakes he covered up with annotations due to flat-out incorrect information. Yeah, it's really not that hard to catch mistakes from gaijinhunter. He makes them a LOT. Not really much to brag about.
Does anyone know how to unlock the Palico Canon( I don't think this is what it's actual name is), Not the chestnut canon, its something else, I haven't been able to find what I need to unlock it!

Gona throw this is as it's pretty much a sheet for people wanting to look at a fast reference. It also includes the passive skills!
thnx 🙏
Did anyone else notice the prowlers in the picture are wearing armor sets that match the monster they get certain skills from? :)
Jesus christ now that's dedication
Ultrasonic horn also causes all small monsters in the area to leave! It's a useful Palico skill!
^^ THIS! great skill to give a companion palico when doing egg/ore chunk delivery quest. clears all the tiny monsters from the area.
+Michael Reyes it's good when dealing with monsters that summon small Monsters like Blagonga or monsters that hang around bullfango or rhenoplos
And as i learned the hard way, its absolutely dreadful when trying to defeat 20 remombra in the arena
There are some extra effects on some skills.
Emergency retreat - also heals any status, blights and even virus. You are invincible from the moment you activate the skill.
Ultrasonic Horn - also scares little monsters you hit off the map (if the usual sonic bomb has the same effect then its my bad)

Sleep... Or Gaijin Hunter?
Gaijin Hunter.
Lol so true
ikr
Fun Fact:
In the german version translation of Monster hunter, Astalos electroshell+ are for some reason named: Rajang Heart+
wtf capcom?
How do you pump out all these videos this quickly, you're a legend man
by making mistakes i suppose ;o
+gaijin hunter *sad violin music*
I just don't understand how you pump them out, go to work, have a family and play hundreds of hours on the game as well. Keep up the good work.
Maybe it's just the sheer NUMBER of shells you can fire in a single activation of the Meowzer Tank, but in my experience it WRECKS monsters (despite the low motion values you're claiming per individual shot) and it flinches them VERY easily,, especially if you're nailing them in the face. I never realized that the trap names were puns on "prison"
the fuck did you thin purr-ison meant
this game has tons of puns for the palicoes. Just read the dialogs when talking to any palico and it's just full of puns
I really liked the d'Artanyan one.
Important to note that during Emergency Retreat, much like normal burrow, if a monster roars it will Sonic Bomb you out of the ground. Some monsters combo with rage roars into hits, like Rathalos so know your matchups!
Thank you, Gaijin Hunter! I appreciate all the work you put into these videos. Makes my hunting much less of a headache. :)
emergency retreat does not make you completely invulneral, the alatreon can hit you underground when in theair doing the down thunder sweeps, or attacks the hit the grong like the uragaan shin smash, there might be other moves too, and aparantly youll get hit harder.
Ever thought about making a ideal skill set for the 7 types? Been trying to find a good set up for a bomb palico.
finally a good source for all of the prowler skills, thanks!
8:38 "is unlock by capturing or killing a shagaru" gotta cap them elder dragons
Gotta catch em all!
I'm so sorry
Didnt even notice that :P
I forget that Shagaru is an elder dragon sometimes to be honest.
I mean let's be real: he's pretty much a clone of Gore (which is cappable, and not an elder) when it hits frenzy, and he only gives 3 carves instead of 4 like every other elder (save for Kirin, but that piece of shit is hardly an elder dragon either).

+RandomNPC same, so many traps brought just for me to realize 30 seconds in that its an elder and I just brought traps instead of demon drug and armor skin
That One Pink Greninja after commenting I saw this ;_;
On an extra note, the sonic horn will also make all smaller monsters in the area your in run away for quite a bit of time, very nice for clearing annoying enemies for fighting or gathering.

Vase of Vitality boost natural recovery, and removes Blights. It can be reapplied, so long as the vase is still present, but does not remove things like poison.
NOTE: roars will force you out of the ground during an emergency retreat
As a note: Petite bombs are weak, but they can cancel you out of the last hit of the boomerang combo without slowing down your rate of boomerangs.
For the retreat skill you should also mention that it cures fire, and poison as well as slime, (basically I think it cures every blight/status that you can use the skill while having, so paralysis and Tremor I don't think get negated)
Thanks for doing all this Adam!
Nobody seem to mention that the Ultrasonic horn can also scare off small monsters in the area it's played in.
Might have wanted to mention that some moves require you to be in fury mode to activate, but overall I love that you're helping the community learning about prowlers ^_^ I actually main prowler myself and have tried different sets. If you'd like me to post some sets, just let me know!
Post some sets yo
Just letting you know that with Soothing Roll if you approach a monster you can end the roll by pressing X which does a spinning attack just like the basic triple X combo
Aren't "Prowler Skills" the passives? I think these are "Support Moves."
honestly, I rarely hear people call moves as moves
everyone just seems to refer to all abilities, passive or otherwise, as skills... usually referring to the skill or move involved by name
Can you do a video covering all the prowler skills?
Quick Bonus Information on the Ultrasonic Horn: It also makes small monsters that hear it leave the area.
The mega boomerang is actually fun. During the wind up, it will hit nearby units so i use it more as a melee attack rather than a range attack
There just seems to be so much more depth to training palicos in this game. Are there plans for a general tutorial video for all the various cat-related systems in the game? I've been trying to dive into all of them a bit but I always feel like I might be missing something or wasting my time doing something sub-optimal.
Did you get pictures of each cat in the armor of the corresponding monster? If so, that's a really nice touch :)
I love the ultrasonic horn, It makes smaller monsters leave the area, some large monsters with sensitive ears will be stunned by it and certain monsters like the nargacuga will be enraged by it
could you make a video going over all the new bowgun shots? that'd be a huge help
Gaijin your vids are so helpful to me even though I have been playing sense freedom U keep up the good work
you content is great thanks you so much for all your hard work any chance on doing a video about armors soon?
So, I have slain a lot of the monsters on the list, but I haven't unlocked the skills for some? Like, I have killed a lodrome about 3 or 4 times as a healer, and I don't have a detox horn? Is it because I am doing it via hub quests?
i think i kinda late 3 year, but you must bring Palico that has detox horn with you (Hunter or Prowler didn't matter)
Piercing makes it faster because it's double hitting. Thus generating Gauge faster.
I wish I found his video earlier!!! Thanks! This helped me a lot
I have here THE ultimate assist prowler, but I didn't understand that chart in the other video about the moves/skills you can have all at once, so idk if it's possible, but:
Support Moves:
Emergency Retreat
Big Boomerangs
Piercing Boomerangs (taught)
Shock Purr-ison
Poison Purr-ison
Dung Bomb
Skills:
Earplugs
Boomerang Boost/Up/Pro
Attack/Defense Up (L) either is fine
Affinity Boost (L) (This before AuL)
Pro Trapper
This is all of what I gathered from all (6?) of your videos on Prowlers. 'Could someone check if this is possible?
Bherna's theme song sounds so cute and happy when you speed it up by 2 lol.
Will you do a video on what quest you need to do to unlock each hunter art, please.
IDK if he did a video on this but did Adam do a video on his top favorite monsters in the series?
Might we get a video full of bloopers?
there's an incorrect skill image for Claw Dance, it shows the one from Felyne Comet
doh!
Also just in case you weren't aware (I feel bad that you are tired thank you for these videos!) Chestnut Cannon also says to fight Arzuros to get it, rather than Urgaan, I think it was?
damn it! yes, uragaan
And just to give one more correction, Ultrasonic Horn also causes all small monsters to evacuate the area for a while.
i love the shogun hermitaur, hes my favorite monster.
i said it as it was written
the ultra sonic horn have a another effect, this made small monster run out the area.
this is super helpful when you go for resources
ive used mega boomerang from a distance and it does a ton of damage when used at the right distance and does a ton of hits
Go Fight Win + Feyline Comet is shockingly effective, especially if the monster is downed.
for mega boomerang it has the gendrome picture
and uragaan unlocks chestnut cannon not arzuros
WHEN ARE WE GETTING THIS FOR MHXX BUT ON VIDEO AND WITH DETAILS LIKE MOTION VALUES ETC?
Hey Gaijin can you make a video about the Akantor subquest exploit? if you have a couple pierce LBGs you can break its back in a matter of seconds
mega boomerang does damage during the spinning animation as well, but it's more or less impossible to put it to good use.
What is it you're a saying at @6.50, regarding activating emergency retreat. "just hit (?) R&Y and boom"?
Wait, is mega boomerang different in the MHX compared to MHGen or something? Because in my game (MHGen) it does not work like the big and pierce boomerangs at all, and more like a one use move like Chestnut Cannon. PeanutButterfly I know its late but I think u might want big boomerang not mega

vase of vitality DOES work like the hunter's oasis wherein it'll stay active for a set amount of time in the area & should you ever be afflicted with a status, you can run into it's AOE & get it's benefit. of course you won't get the benefit over & over if you don't have any status.
Question about the prowler skills and support skills: Can a Prowler only be one move? I've been trying to teach my fighting cat earplugs, but it prompts me to get rid of a previously taught skill. Just wanted to confirm.
Can you make a video on how to unlock all hunter arts next?
Is there an updated Video for Generations ultimate? There are some new skills I want to learn but have no idea what to kill for them.
About the emergency retreat, you typed instant invisibility but you said invincibility... oh well, and it also removes any blight or status effect
emergency retreat also heals poison blast blight and all elemental blight iirc
Dung bombs on palicos are amazing, they know enough to dung a monster if there's two monster in the area. (As long as they don't get interrupted lol)
You forgot to mention that Ultrasonic Horn makes small monsters flee which is helpful when gathering.
you forgot to mention during sumo stomp, you're completely invincible for the whole thing
im not kidding
Yeah he did say it in his tutorial though
Yo, Gaijin Hunter. Ultrasonic horn also has the side effect of making small monsters flee for a period of time.
i can only seem to give my fighter palicoes a support move from the dojo. there is only one slot and is being used for big boomerangs. is there a way to learn more support move slots? i really need emergency retreat
+Sketchit 20 melee attack as far as I know
This is so helpful. Thanks!
oh! healing roll is really useful, it removes status effects too!
Are you going to show at all maybe what are the best armor sets for prowlers at all?
Whatever is the most fashionable. Since cats don't receive skills from their armour, the only real benefit is the defence and elemental resistances.
could you do this for MHGU ?
Gaijin, got a question.. Were there any changes made to buffing in MHG? Love your videos btw!
I think I read that the Armor Horn also provides everyone with Super Armour. Is that true?
how about one for mhgenerations ultimate?
I just got this game this is so cool that you can play as them
claw dance look like wolverine claw slash... you will move forward quite a bit towards the end of the animation.
Emergency retreat can also heal status like poison , burn too....
anti-monster mine and plus version will send hunters flying...
does pro trapper skills stacks with "go fight win" support move effect to lower the cost of shock trap to 2?
I am thinking about getting those skills together for my prowler and palico to use for different stages in the hunter hub quest. based on this reddit information: www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/4tfy86/palico_skill_distribution_guide_how_palico_skill/
do these values also apply if used by your Palicos on solo hunts?
Hi Gaijin I'm a huge fan of your work :) could you make a video on the fastest way to increase the Hunter Rank after the Narkarkos please ? Thank you :3
Level X hunts. There is especially a special setup which is known to be the speed farming for HR. Take a look at this link, it's well explained /watch?v=iKs_SyURPU4
+TheAzureKite Thank you very much !
XD I thought you were silent the entire time and I just had my sound off.
Does the cheer horn stack with the HH defense songs?
Till this day I still wonder why felyne comet is a skill from arzuros when it should be from idk maybe VALSTRAX
palico rally also increases deffense
Can weapon upgrade make a good melee focus cat?
hey gaijin is it possible to teach emergency escape to fighter type or it's stuck with sumo stomp for invencibility frames?
+Hugo H. Rocha you can teach it
Ahhh i see, i haven't learned it with the cephadrome quest but i could use on my assist palico very confusing. It's all right now thanks for your time!
Question: the motion values on the bombing skills use melee or boomerang attack power? Also, do sharpness/affinity matter for bombing?
Not 100% sure but i think its melee
26 minutes ago XD Awesome video, this will help me decide what to have on my cats. Also, do cats only have a certain amount of space for skills and abillities? Like, they cant get more by leveling up?
As a palico levels up, they gain more space to equip skills and support moves, as well as gaining more enthusiasm.
they earn more slots for equitable skills, but no, they can't learn new skills other than the one taught one
Thanks my main is a bomb prowler i'll check out the skill
AHA I caught an error from gaijin! Mispelled invincibility at 6:58
As well as "Testucabra" (Tetsucabra) at 1:42.
Does anyone know how to unlock the Palico Canon( I don't think this is what it's actual name is),
Not the chestnut canon, its something else, I haven't been able to find what I need to unlock it!
