- Here is part one of a two-part exploration of the interface of the Mellotron Micro.
The theme was created using presets from the Mellotron Micro, with a KORG 2600M providing bass, and using drum loops from GarageBand.

Great to see that you discovered this beauty! I LOVE mine!
I LOVE MINE! Knobcon?
I'm such a Mellotron junky, that even though I've owned the Micro and Rack for many years, and have done a lot of demo videos for them, I'm gonna watch ALL of your videos all the way through! 😅👍
The Synth Samurai sent me over to check out your vids on this interesting piece of gear. Good stuff fren, subbed.
The Mellotron choir sound has always been one of my absolute favorites. Always instant goosebumps! Peace brother!
Oh my GOD yes! I can’t get enough of them. The only choir “samples” I’ve ever heard that are truly realistic!
What you don't get is the natural-ness of when the french horn note is stopped. The cut off when you end the note is very synth-like.
The two octave keyboard makes it no more than a good-sounding toy - like the Yamaha Reface, with their tiny keys - or an oversized module. As for the sound, while it's nice to have the option of pristine tapes, no Mellotron ever sounded like the master-tape. The Manikin Memotron took their samples from the output of an actual Mellotron, so had all the vibe of the real thing.
Just use a bigger midi keyboard.
@@SamLibman Then it becomes the oversized desktop module, as I said above.
Not simping for Manikin here, but they actually do have a desktop Memotron module, without the toy keyboard.
@@mickeythompson9537 Okay, then buy that…
@@SamLibman And may you enjoy your executive toy, that the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to make ten keys longer for you.
@@mickeythompson9537 If you do some research on how wide of a range melodies typically are, you'll find a vast majority fit within 2 octaves. And the keyboard on the Mellotron Micro is a quality keybed with full sized keys so, it's not a toy, it's a serious and quality instrument! 😎
[7:35] if you want to jump to the chat about how it works
Or, you could listen up to that point and learn if you’re not crippled with youthful impatience. :)
And so, MD, this or the Mellotron Mini, or the full size one?
Well, of the new versions, I’ve only played this one. But I can see the appeal of the features of the others. I think this is getting the most for the least, though.
