very interesting video.. not many of these wilderness-landing vids with instructions like this one.. it is allways interesting to listen to what to keep in mind during non-airport-helipad-landings..
Andreas Lindkvist well then I might just have to make an entire video with nothing but landing in weird/cool off-airport places in the 44. Sounds like fun to me!
Andreas Lindkvist very cool. I'm trying to limit 44 time just because it's so expensive though. Check out Bradley Friesen if you haven't seen his stuff yet. He flies his 44 in some pretty epic places.
This is another great video. I'm also flying the R44 now but I've found the hydraulics make the cyclic more sensitive that the R22 and it took me a while to get use to it. The glass cockpit in your chopper looks cool. Did it take long to get use to the layout?
Ashley Muir thanks. The hydraulics do make it feel a little more sensitive, but I like it. Don’t get me wrong, the R22 is a blast, but it feels like wrestling a bull while the 44 feels a lot more refined and comfortable. The G500 is pretty awesome and did have a little bit of a learning curve, but everything is easier once you get the general hang of it.
Just like you, now I'm use to flying the 44 I am enjoying it. It is easier to hover than the 22 and the air conditioning is nice particularly in the Australian summer. I've being flying aircraft for 26 years now and helicopters for about 3 and you always have a soft spot for the aircraft you do your first solo in. That's why I will always like the 22
Who makes that timer on the cyclic? Also, your instructor saying "dive" when departing your off airport spot made me cringe, that's how you get a pushover from someone who has a misunderstanding/ forgets/ or lacks experience.
Wasn't too bad actually. I did the oral portion last week, but couldn't fly due to thunderstorms rolling in so all I had to do yesterday the flying portion. Went up, did the three different approaches, and everything went great. Got lucky on the weather cause the ceiling was getting pretty low. If we had gone an hour or two later, we probably would not have been able to do it.
Great work on the 44, your set downs were awesome! I found the hydraulics so much more challenging to set down with than the 22. Nice 44, is it a Raven II? Have seen a glass cockpit one yet. Also, love the CA swag.
kiltedpiper thanks! My pickups are a lot better now as well. You done any hydraulics off hovering and set downs? Now that's a challenge! Still have to make all the gentle movements but with a ton of force. Yep, it's a Raven II. The hats turned out pretty sweet!
Hah, yeah it feels like you're trying to lift the weight of the helicopter, it's insane. My buddy who flies the EC135 said that if both hydraulic systems fail in that, you would have to apply so much pressure to the cyclic that it would snap it right off before you could affect the rotor system.
+Jayson Chappell I did a review talking about them. The A20's are a fantastic headset. The reason I went with the Zulu's was because of the price difference and the performance of the mic with the doors off in the helicopter with all the wind.
Critical Angle yeah, understandable. I do a lot of flying in J-3 cubs and I didn't know which headset would be better for the window-down style of flying!
Joshua Linn not sure if you’re talking about gloves in general or why Mechanix as a brand. As for brand, I actually moved away from Mechanix since they are a little bulky and seem to wear pretty fast. I use the PIG Delta gloves now and they’re great. Really form fitting and touch screen compatible. As for why gloves? It’s personal presence, but I like the better grip they give me on the controls. Keeps my hands warmer in the winter and less sweaty in the summer. When using the touch screen in the 44 or an iPad in any of the helicopters, it also prevents finger smudges from getting all over the screen. When the sun reflects off of those, it’s harder to see it.
Rowdy Broomstick started training at the beginning of the year. My time table is to be an instructor before the year is over. Should be pretty obtainable at the pace I'm going.
Rotorcraft Pro buddy of mine flies HEMS in the EC135. They have dual hydraulics, but he said if they were to both somehow fail, you would have to apply so much force to the cyclic that you would snap it off before you would be able to affect any change in the rotor head.
Not entirely sure yet rt. The interest in the hats is a pretty recent thing so I've got to get something set up with a distributor to find out how to get them made economically. I will definitely let everyone know when I get that part figured out. Growing pains!
Good video but.... Find some better music. There are decades of good stuff! How about the Stones Under My Thumb as he gets the hang of it???☺ be creative have some fun....
Just got my PPL in north TX. Meachum Airport. Always watch your channel. Thanks guys.
Doing my first transition flight tomorrow in the 44 from the 22, looking forward to it.

Sounds great!.. (i am schooling in a r44 atm .. so it is very inspiring!)

Love it ol son! Hope to start training this year myself!
GulfHunter cool! Good luck to you! It's a whole lot of fun.
My two favorite days are Christmas and when Critical Angle flies the R44
Great flight there, pretty smooth. Not much wind! I should have gone for the heli's so many landing spots. cheers
Some day I'll come to Seguin and get my C.p.l , good luck this year your looking good !
Man, this is some awesome stuff! Excellent work!
Great video. Thank you for posting!
Very nice hill Country flight Epic ! Thanks appreciate
Freaking awesome! Cheers from Dallas!
Does it look like the instructor's door is open?
Awsome Video :) Can i ask what gloves you are wearing? ive been looking for nice low profile ones :)
this is amazing, cant wait my own taining at a different location in july
i guess I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream new tv shows online?
@Luis Phoenix try FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
@Joaquin Yehuda Yup, been using Flixzone for months myself =)
@Joaquin Yehuda Thank you, I went there and it seems to work :D I really appreciate it !!
@Luis Phoenix you are welcome =)

I hear you on the air conditioning. That alone almost makes it worth double the price on those hot summer days....almost.
How was your experience with veracity, and did you ever get your instructor rating? I should be starting at the Seguin location within a month or so.
Adam Smith really awesome. I like Veracity a lot. I’m almost done with my CFI then going straight to CFII. I’ll probably see you down there!
I love the helicopters but they are so expensive to maintains
the standard r44 has almost the same cockpit as the r22, i suppose that g500 is an aftermarket upgrade isnt it?
David Rodriguez yeah it didn’t come from the factory like that.
Who makes that timer on the cyclic? Also, your instructor saying "dive" when departing your off airport spot made me cringe, that's how you get a pushover from someone who has a misunderstanding/ forgets/ or lacks experience.
Looks like your good enough to get your check ride
Rowdy Broomstick thanks! I've actually been a private pilot for a while now and just used the 44 to pass my IFR checkride yesterday!
Critical Angle congrats! How was the instrument check ride?
Wasn't too bad actually. I did the oral portion last week, but couldn't fly due to thunderstorms rolling in so all I had to do yesterday the flying portion. Went up, did the three different approaches, and everything went great. Got lucky on the weather cause the ceiling was getting pretty low. How many flight hours do you have now?
rt0110 I'm a little over 120 total time right now. Should be able to knock out my commercial certificate next month.
Damn, that is a nice R-44, that glass cockpit is awesome. btw what was the intro song?
HappyCamper yeah it's pretty sweet! Song credit in the description.
Thanks :)

Critical Angle , ug, the hydraulics off sucks. For me the collective is the hardest with hydraulics off.
Hah, yeah it feels like you're trying to lift the weight of the helicopter, it's insane. My buddy who flies the EC135 said that if both hydraulic systems fail in that, you would have to apply so much pressure to the cyclic that it would snap it right off before you could affect the rotor system.
Critical Angle autos are much easier in the 44 though.
kiltedpiper oh yeah dude it's like slow motion in the 44.
Do you like the bose A20's? I'm in the market for some new headsets, and didn't know what you thought of the bose headsets
+Jayson Chappell I did a review talking about them. The A20's are a fantastic headset. The reason I went with the Zulu's was because of the price difference and the performance of the mic with the doors off in the helicopter with all the wind.

FIRST CLASS VIDEO. I want to FLY..
Awesome!
Awesome video. After you complete the 44 transition, are you going to do the turbine transition?
+Hondo 500E probably not for a while. I'll have to wait until I get hired on with a company that will pay for it.
Robinsons still aren't fuel injected?
Rjh Rhjj the R44 Raven II in the video is fuel injected.
Professionally curious: why are you so attached to your mechanics gloves?
Joshua Linn not sure if you’re talking about gloves in general or why Mechanix as a brand. As for brand, I actually moved away from Mechanix since they are a little bulky and seem to wear pretty fast. I use the PIG Delta gloves now and they’re great. Really form fitting and touch screen compatible.

@@CriticalAngle Yes absolutely love some thin glove too
How long have you been training to fly that good?
Rowdy Broomstick started training at the beginning of the year. My time table is to be an instructor before the year is over. Should be pretty obtainable at the pace I'm going.
Wow, that's awesome! I want to train but my money that's coming my way is only about 35g and I'm not eligible for bank finance
it all looks so peacefull.....to bad i am to scared to fly! LOL!
Imagine hydraulic failure in a ship 10 times as heavy. That cyclic would be a tree stump.
Rotorcraft Pro buddy of mine flies HEMS in the EC135. They have dual hydraulics, but he said if they were to both somehow fail, you would have to apply so much force to the cyclic that you would snap it off before you would be able to affect any change in the rotor head.
Meu sonho sempre era voar de elicopetero Robson 44 e meu marido que ama muito elicopetero
Garmin G500?
+Jayson Chappell That's the one.
Critical Angle cool! I learned to fly in a C172S with a Garmin G500. Loved every bit of it haha
Where could I get my self a CA hat looks sick
Alberto Hernandez gonna look into getting some more made then I'll let you know.
Where can we get them when you have them made?
Not entirely sure yet rt. The interest in the hats is a pretty recent thing so I've got to get something set up with a distributor to find out how to get them made economically. I will definitely let everyone know when I get that part figured out. Growing pains!
You should get some shirts made too!!
For sure! I had some samples made that I wasn't happy with so I'm talking with a new supplier.
everything is good. all good. yep. its good. LOL!
Good video but.... Find some better music. There are decades of good stuff! How about the Stones Under My Thumb as he gets the hang of it???☺ be creative have some fun....
