Phi Harding, you are priceless... your love for your craft and every tool, the box itself, your brilliant sense of humour and that contagious laugh... I could watch all day without ever getting tired of it. Thank you for many years of great entertainment and a lot of very interesting historical facts. You are a living legend 🌹
In TT season 8, the trailer with all the archaeological tools got stolen. Phil was the only one with a shovel the next day because he slept with his under his bed!
I can remember filming a short piece on Phil and his toolbox for an interviewer around that some time, and know I reflect on how many times Phil must have done an interview like that over the years. He always finds a fresh approach and the enthusiasm is sincere, but what is even better is watching him at work with his chosen tools. Hats off to a true archaeological craftsman!
That tool box gives great memories of my Dad. He was an electrician and had his personal tool box with him all the time. I still have it today with his tools in it.
Phil is awesome! We need a book of Phil and Time Teams Wisdom for.Diggers and thinkers. Daughters boyfriend bought me my first trowel for Christmas, exciting moment for sure.
Phil, Mick and the rest of the time team crew got me really interested in archeology. They make it so relatable. I think they have done more for the field than most when it comes to making it a subject that would interest the masses.
Just started watching time team. It's a great show. You had such a long run on air. All the team is so cool. I was sad to hear mick is passed . I love phil and his hat.... i introduced my son to your show he likes it. Thanks for all the knowledge. From usa but i love your country hope to visit one day. Lots of good wishes from ny
same for me as a Chef. i still have a few knives from my 1st year of apprenticeship. and for every job a specific one...and now i am 70, retired, but my cases with my tools i still have, using them when cooking at home.
It's funny. I just watched the first season of TT and you see Phil carrying a bright and shinny new box. It's cool to be able to see the difference. I plan on watching each epi in order and hope to see the progression of Phil's box as it ages through the many seasons of Time Team :)
Moi aussi. A pity I don't get all he says... That achent of hij... Not quite a Londoner. Still, I'm found of him and recognized me self when he said he got into archeology as a young boy watching diggers in his backyard. I'd love having a pint with the Team.
@@katmandudawn8417 Me too. I recall him talking about how when he was given his honorary doctorate that Mick was pretty much the family that showed up to see him receive it. He could probably use a cousin. ;)
The one thing I have to have is a 5 m tape, followed by rite in the rain notebook and pencil and pen. 100 m tape, then towel (double ring marshaltown), and whisk broom, then round nose and square nose shovels, hand pick, eye loop, ice pick, and assorted plastic and paper bags with the ever present sharpie. Vials for beads and other small objects with toilet paper for cushioning. That and a hat and you're good to go. And pants. You need pants.
I've done paleontology and it's interesting how different the tools are between the two disciplines. Except for pencil/pens and plastic museum quality bags to put finds into, I don't think anything is the same. The box becomes a backpack and a tool belt. Then there are plastic bottles of polyvinyl butyral dissolved in acetone. Brushes, dental picks (not much digging goes on). Camera, GPS, topo map.
as an American that watches loads on English television i know you guys think you shocked mw with that "Rubber" bit, but am already well onto that old trick.
He ain't need any. He's above that. That's what makes the difference with posh useless people and others. As I've worked in restaurants for more than a decade, in London and in my own country, France, I can tell you that, as we say : l'habit ne fait pas le moine...
He has it when he is digging, especially when he has to dig in the rain. When he's not digging he keeps his hands and fingernails scrupulously clean. He takes care of his hands because he is also a serious guitar player and plays finger style.
He really loves his job, notice the sparkle in his eyes as he described all the tools. Quite an amazing man.

Love Phil always! His accent and demeanor is so charming 😁

I was just thinking the same thing! Phil sleeps with his tools. That is dedication!
Not strange atall, atall.
Michelle Twidwell i remember that
Are you it wasn't actually in his bed?
are you serious! someone stole everyone's tools. man i cannot stand people.

Heart of a teacher.

when he started about the shovel and picked it up, he looked so proud and excited haha he's a cool guy

There's a man who really knows where his trowel is.
Under-appreciated comment
@@ByronLina - I gave it a like. Some people have read :)

Phil is my favorite from Time Team. 😊

This man needs to narrate a series of children's books. Seriously. He's about as intimidating as a hummingbird and would be perfect for it.
I always thought he sounded like a character from "Redwall"
Sadly, not a relative though I'd claim him in a heartbeat if I could.

What a character! Love it!
"this is something i never use, its a rubber.... why do I never use it? because I never make a mistake" i nearly cried laughing when i heard that!!!
Yeah, but she could care less. Made that "aheh" remark when he was making the joke about the rubber.

Thanks for the interesting show.
gotta love Phil,he is awesome !!!
Lovely how appassionate he is about his job ❤️
Now there is a man who has a passion for every part of his job as an archaeologist ....

Phil was laughing like a crazy old bat in the end of the video
I'd live to dig a trench w Phil. He's my hero. Nobody was as passionate as he was on TT.
I ain't agree. They all were very passionate indeed. Each in their fields. Still, having a beer with that Phil must be quite an experience.
I love these!
I Love Phil.
Love Phil. Bring back Time Team. I've been watching since the pilot episode 1992 to 2013.
What makes this even funnier is that erasers are *not* called rubbers on this side of the pond! 😄

A hat comes a close second to a trowel...
He's had that trowel for 50 yrs. He's changed the handle and blade, but it's the same trowel
#TriggersTrowel
as an American that watches loads on English television i know you guys think you shocked mw with that "Rubber" bit, but am already well onto that old trick.
Phil has the strongest west country accent.
always wondered what was in Phil''s box
Phil is the Omar Bradley of Archeology.
I am an admirer of Harding, but the relevant question here is, who is that gorgeous interviewer?
I would like to know what he carries in the leather pouch on his belt.
Wallet & car keys?
A comb and a mirror would be good !

Phil reminds me of the great Aubrey Burl here!
The plum Bob didn’t make an entry ?
i noticed he has the same toolbox as me, kind of sad to notice that.....
Funny how Phil's coat goes from Dark Grey when he's talking to 'Plum' colour when she's talking!?! TV Eh!
The plum coat isn't his. Its somebody behind him where the camera is set up. C'mon man. Critical thinking.
@@paulinatruck5316 So they jump out of the way at 6.26 and back in at 7.25. C'mon man. Don't be a stand in's Coat.
Hey Phil, What do you carry in your belt pouch?
If you love your job, you never have to work a day in your life. I don't believe Phil has ever worked!
Thanks for this
Phil never has any dirt under his fingernails. Why is that, do you suppose? hahaha
He has it when he is digging, especially when he has to dig in the rain. When he's not digging he keeps his hands and fingernails scrupulously clean. He takes care of his hands because he is also a serious guitar player and plays finger style.
She is cute!
reDy Horsey what’s her name?
Wow, she's beautiful.
If that title isn't clickbait i don't know what is.

Does anyone know who the lady is? Smokin’ 🥰

Worrying title
I use a pick axe
What a load of bollocks.
