Your story is a inspiration to all us landlubbers ,im retiring soon at age sixty while im still young enough to be able to do things .One of those things is to buy and attempt to renovate an old crusing yacht and be like toad of Toad Hall mucking about in boats ....time will telll.
Hi Patrick. Thanks for writing. We are only a few years apart in age. I do live by the statement that it is better to regret something you have done than to regret something you did´nt do. I dont jump out of planes but I have other passions, like this Fisher boat. I think you should do things while you can and renovate an old cruising yacht (and be like Toad). Prep well with knowledge and map possibilities (and limitations) prior to buying the yacht. And remember: small is beautiful. Big boats=big problems=loads of costs and worries. Go, go, go Patrick! I am impressed that you obviously have surpassed my capabilities, but then again, I never undertook such major projects as you have doing now with the Fisher. ( I would never have the patience.) :-)

I have spent lots of time on the water for my job. I too have a daughter who likes to come home and help her father, in fact she will be here on Thursday to help me with a big project on my house. It was not planned but when it turned out like this I figured, why the h..l not? :-D My daughter prefer the vintage used shops when choosing style, or stealing my rock T-shirts, which is cool. The work shop is not mine. Missing the proper tools I had to go for some help in that area... Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
One way to deal with the destroyed Philips head screws is to use a hobby grinder (Dremel tool in the US) with a cut-off wheel to cut straight slots in the bad screws. You can then use a straight screwdriver to get the screws out. This works well for situations where you must preserve the materials instead of beating and prying them apart.
Thanks for your advice, Earl. I actually have a Dremel. In this instance I would´nt spend time on it as I will replace the old external diesel-filter with a new Racor filter, and the wood on the engine mount will be removed. So all good :-)

And tell us more about your French boat! Love that style of boat. On my boat The teak was in which bad shape I actually ran it thru a planner to clean it up. Then I used West system epoxy for base coats followed by Epifanes varnish for top coats. Really worked great! Looking forward to your next video!
Hello Bradley. Great to read that you are enjoying your Tresfjord 28. The workshop is a hired help as I dont have the tools to refurbish the teak. If we dont succeed in getting new teak for a reasonably price I will go for the full refurbishment, even though the teak will end up slightly thin. Due to the weather - lots of rainy days - I will only oil the teak. Should I do a extra presentation video on the Rhea 900? Why not? Do you think that will be of general interest for this channel?

I can see the fishing heritage in the design and I like it very much! My boat has a comparison with the Grand Banks design from the early 80's, with is also fishing related. That was a smart move. I would have gone for the same, but think the superstructure needs that wall, especially since I am thinking about removing the forward wall in the pilothouse, to have an open space. Thanks for your input!
Hi Steven. After almost 50 years all the seals and putty has hardened and hence are leaking. Since that matter has not been dealt with, the boat has had years of water-intrusion from above, damaging the interior and the structural integrity of the boat. It feels bad to remove all the beautiful interior, but it is really the only smart thing to do. The Fishers are very though and the quality of the glassfiber is still excellent. But even high quality needs TLC (after 47 years). :-)
@@hsobstad Ah , now that i can relate too . I started three years ago , doing what should have been a straight forward job . Replace the timing belt , and renew the water pump , it wasn't even leaking but at 20 years old , i figured it's a respectable age . Now , three years later , i've completely rebuilt the cooling system , rebuilt the timing system , and right now in the process of completing a complete rebuild of the power steering . Along the way , i've been had my fingers in the windshield washer system , and numerous other functions of my motorhome , including the electrical system . Like i said , can of worms .
@@mickey1299 Ohh... A motorhome. I am considering building me a motorhome in some years, when my wife retires from work. Sounds like you are about to have restored all of your systems in the motorhome. That is excellent work and must give you faith in regards to reliability and safety. I would consider rebuilding a van into a motorhome. This way I can custom make all systems according to my (and my wifes) desires and not buying something made (trying) to fit everyone. In Norway a motorhome really is the way to explore the northern parts.
True! This is all new to me. But I dont care if it is not perfect. I find it joyful. In the later video I get a better grip of things, but still an amateur. Some people seems to like the videos, and some dont. I guess that is fair. Do you have any specific advice or input to me?

My bulkhead under the mast was in poor shape. I installed a square aluminum tube and it supports the mast directly to the keel.

@@hsobstad Ah , now that i can relate too . I started three years ago , doing what should have been a straight forward job . Replace the timing belt , and renew the water pump , it wasn't even leaking but at 20 years old , i figured it's a respectable age . Now , three years later , i've completely rebuilt the cooling system , rebuilt the timing system , and right now in the process of completing a complete rebuild of the power steering . Along the way , i've been had my fingers in the windshield washer system , and numerous other functions of my motorhome , including the electrical system . Like i said , can of worms .

Sounds like you are about to have restored all of your systems in the motorhome. That is excellent work and must give you faith in regards to reliability and safety.
I would consider rebuilding a van into a motorhome. This way I can custom make all systems according to my (and my wifes) desires and not buying something made (trying) to fit everyone. In Norway a motorhome really is the way to explore the northern parts.

True! This is all new to me. But I dont care if it is not perfect. I find it joyful. In the later video I get a better grip of things, but still an amateur. Some people seems to like the videos, and some dont. I guess that is fair.
