- An Italian manufactured Avanti II touches down, taxis in, starts and then taxis for takeoff on a summer evening at the Dupage Airport in West Chicago, Illinois.
Both my daughter Stephanie, and her husband, Sam, fly for Avantair, which operates a fleet of Piaggio Avantis. When I was alerted that Sam would be passing through nearby Dupage Airport, I grabbed my camera to video a unique airplane and to say hello to Sam.
The video camera's shutter causes the weird propeller motion.

Thanks. Seen a few P180's in North America. Have flown a Piaggio P166 Portofino ("Pig")out of Vic Aussie. Pusher with 340hp Lycomings & similar layout. Very popular in the fifties and sixties as local and regional mini airliner feeder into big airline interstate airlines. Much loved Down under but largely history now in 2020.
Thanks for all that. Bill
Very Nice! Great lookin' plane!
It is a distinctive sounding airplane. Thanks for watching.

Hi Bill ! Avanti ll is a beauty ! Also, kudos to your daughter and son-in-law ! Thanks for sharing :)
I couldn't agree more. Thanks. Bill
Great video - I enjoyed the change of subject!
Keep coming up with different things and angles.
Yes, they do show up occasionally. Thanks for watching the video.

Sweet looking plane. Reminds me a little of the Gruman Starship. It to was a tubo-prop pusher w/front cunard wing. Also the way you ended your copyright logo was fitting.
Thanks. Yes, I fly a King Air but never got inside of a Starship. Saw quite a few from the outside but that was it.

I realy like this aircraft i never saw a plane like this on airport
Not too many of them around. Thanks for watching.
Bill
Thanks for watching the video. Bill
Hey thanks. I'm not familiar with the Grumman Starship. Could it be the Beechcraft Starship that was in production but with little commercial success? Bill
It is different for sure. Thanks for watching.
Cool planes :D
I live in Montgomery, IL ... just a couple blocks east and above me is the final turn for the ILS for RWY10/Dupage. I don't have to look up to know a Piaggio is lining up for the glideslope. You can hear the distinctive sound. But ... I always look up. I'm an airplane buff.
Beautiful plane. I'm curious about how the "crew" directs the aircraft to the tie down spot...
Is he THEIR guy, or an airport guy contacted by radio to help the pilot to the proper tie down spot?
In this case he's a lineman employed at the airport.
There was. In the back briefing the passengers.

Nice aircraft
Interesting video Bill. Gave me cause to go look at the Beech Starship program again. Great idea but out of step with times. My brother worked as a weather observer at GCK airport which is 200 miles west of Wichita. While he was there, Beech brought out about 10 unsold Starships and stored them on the tarmac until they could figure out what to do with them. Wish I had a picture of that. You're a KingAir guy, have you flown or been in a Starship?

It is nice and different. Bill
You're probably right. I wasn't sure who made it.
Oh? No co-pilot?
Thanks for watching . Bill
